When we found out rock ‘n’ roll supermodel Erin
Wasson was collaborating with Zadig & Voltaire, we
couldn’t wait to get her in the studio. In fact, the
effortless way in which Erin puts outfits together got us
thinking. She is the poster girl for that sexy, easy, cool
that has a space in every woman’s wardrobe. Check
out our shoot, then join us as we chat to Olivier
Theyskens, Jonny Johansson at Acne and actress Chloë
Moretz. To finish things off? DJ Hanna Hanra shares

Alison Taylor talks to
Jonny Johansson about
turning his design collective
into a runway super-brand
artistic, functional fashion that the girls
were wearing.
Did you build the
collection around any
particular pieces?
The double-breasted blazer was very
important – it’s based on a man’s jacket,
and also the overalls and dungarees.
Acne inspires devoted
followers. The clue is in the
label’s acronym: Ambition to Create
Novel Expressions. It’s a fitting style
manifesto from the Swedish label’s
creative director Jonny Johansson, the
former band front-man who launched
the label as a creative collective with
Warhol’s Factory in mind, dabbling in
film, music and digital outputs. When
he came up with the idea of putting out
a limited edition denim collection – just
100 pairs sent to family and friends – he
unwittingly started a fashion cult that just
keeps on growing. Now a firm fixture on
London Fashion Week’s show schedule,
Acne has become the go-to for clothes
for creative girls. We catch up with the
hippest man in Stockholm to talk about
the exciting fall collection.
The girls in your
studio inspired the fall
collection, HOW?
It sounds like a rock song, ‘The Girls In
the Studio’ [laughs]. Yes, I thought it was
the right time for this straightforward,
Is it the styling that’s
really important?
There was one girl in particular who put
together workwear in a really talented
way. She would wear the overalls with
more feminine chiffon pieces or layer
over leather jackets that looked cool,
or do interesting things with color.
The color was really
strong in this collection…
t h e c u lt of
ACNE
Yes, I was really inspired by the artist
Daniel Silver. He has a great color
sensibility. You always need an initial
reason to do something and hanging out
with him was the reason. We’ve now
done a capsule collection together.
Are you inspired by
Stockholm’s minimalist
style sensibilities?
For me, minimalism is an art form.
I think there’s something pure,
straightforward and functional with
what we do which is related to that
idea but I don’t say that we’re minimalist
in the regular sense.

I don’t really. I find that too literal.

exaggerated shapes sweep the fall runway.
At Stella McCartney voluminous mini
dresses were defined by full, curvilinear

dresses were worn with bare legs and

seems utterly modern, it’s steeped in
fashion history too. Flash back to Christian

Prints feature heavily in this
collection, why?
Do you design with a particular
woman in mind?
Since I started at Theory I’ve spent
a lot of time with pattern makers,
trying to make sure they understand
how I want the clothes to fall. Seeing
sketches of the shapes got me thinking
about architectural plans, which
formed a basis for the prints.
No, because everyone is multi-faceted.
Like the cathedral print?
Yes, I started using old plans and
facades from cathedrals – putting
them together to create intricate,
very refined patterns. The collection
Theyskens’ Theory Essentials
I like to put myself in a woman’s place
and ask: if I were her, what would I like?
Fashion is really connected with desire.
What do you think is desirable
at the moment?
Perfect proportions – it’s so important
to me that my designs are flattering.
Often, there is a lot of focus on
decoration but I’m more interested
in how the clothes are working
with the body.
Are your clothes about a mood
or dressing for an occasion?
I make my clothes so you can switch a
bit of your look and you’re good to go
for a night out or to tea with grandma.

Accessories designer Katie Hiller celebrates
the enduring style of Charlotte Rampling
“I have been in awe of
Charlotte Rampling since my midtwenties. For me, she just has it.
She’s this beautifully chic hybrid of cool,
elegance and sexiness all rolled into
one. I’ll always remember the moment
when I first opened her iconic book
With Compliments. It’s packed full of
beautiful photographs, but there is one

that made my mouth drop. She looked

endless legs and that hair, but regardless
of her genetic gifts, what really stands
out is the way she carries herself with
total confidence. Her signature look
– the cotton shirt, pencil skirt, killer
stilettos and slick of black eyeliner – is
a total win. It’s simple and clean, a style
formula that works time and time again.
When I’m designing I often ask
myself, ‘Would Charlotte wear this?’
I think her pared-back approach to
dressing is very now; the evidence is
all over the fall runways. Personally, I’m
not very good at the whole glamour
thing, so when I’m getting ready for a
night out I try to keep her in my mind.
Back in 2010, I came face

an opulent fashion party in
London – and I mean face

before managing to squeal
‘Ohh, hello!’ To which she
replied, ‘Hello’… before
being whisked away to an
onslaught of snap-happy
paparazzi. She left me
starstuck. She really is
quite something.

Wasson, 29, of French label Zadig & Voltaire. Cue one of the
hottest collaborations of the season: Erin meets Zadig. “With

she says. No surprise then, that the tightly edited capsule of studsprayed chiffon blouses, zip-embellished jeans and jersey dresses
with back-flashing cutouts, is the epitome of model-off-duty chic.
And the inspiration behind the collection? “Classic cars and the
