December 2010 2011 Back to School Program The students will share in $7,000 with scholarship amounts ranging from $500 to $1,000. In 2011 Scholarships will be offered again for courses being undertaken in 2012. For this round we would like to encourage more males to apply. Once again at the start of the 2011 school year Stand Like Stone will distribute $50 Back to School vouchers to school children in the Limestone Coast. The vouchers help families needing support at the start of the school year to purchase items needed for school such as school uniform, shoes, sporting clothes and school bags. th Stand Like Stone gives grants for the 9 time During November recipients of Stand Like Stone’s ninth round of grants were announced. The following six organisations will share $4,710: We are seeking your support to give a child in the Limestone Coast a helping hand at the start of the school year. Organisation A $50 tax deductible donation is matched by FRRR and will buy two $50 Back to School vouchers, helping two children in the Limestone Coast. In September, Noel Barr Toyota, announced a threeyear partnership agreement with the Stand Like Stone Foundation. This partnership enables Noel Barr Toyota to demonstrate in a concrete way its desire to play an active role in enhancing the long term prospects of our community. Guests at the meetings included Member for Mount Gambier, Don Pegler, Stand Like Stone’s Patron Ray Scott and new sponsor Noel Barr, from Noel Barr Toyota. “I want to give something back to the community in a more direct way. I feel that the Stand Like Stone Foundation has provided the right platform for me to do this as it was set up to enhance the lives of people within our local community,” Mr Noel Barr said. Out and about in the community In December, Executive Officer, Sally Klose attended the Keith Area School presentation night to present a scholarship to Kieran Rooke. Director, Brian Page attended the Mount Gambier Independent Learning Centre graduation ceremony. Many of the students at the ILC received $500 Stay at School gifts from Stand Like Stone thanks to the support of the Wyatt Benevolent Institute. Stand Like Stone sponsored an award which was given to Naracoorte High School student, James Wilson. Keith and District Hospital Stand Like Stone has sent a letter to Minister John Hill expressing its opposition to the State Government cutting funding for the Hospital. If you would like to help the Keith Hospital please go to the web site www.keithhospital.com.au and print off the postcards and post. This will only take a few minutes but will remind Premier Mike Rann and Minister John Hill that the Keith Hospital is important to a lot of people. In October, Chairman, Sue Charlton and Director, Brian Page attended the National Community Foundation Forum in Melbourne. At the forum Australian Community Philanthropy presented Brian with the "Excellence and Achievement in the development of Australian Community Foundations" award. This is acknowledgement by the Community Foundation community of Brian’s contribution to Community Foundations.
