Connecticut Children’s Medical Center” - June 23, 2014
The Geno Auriemma “Fore the Kids” Golf Tournament is a proud supporter and community partner of Connecticut
Children’s Medical Center. The money raised each year is dedicated to programs and services which play a critical
role in giving children the care they deserve. From research initiatives and state-of-the-art technology and equipment
– to family support services – The Geno Auriemma Fore the Kids Tournament has impacted the lives of thousands of
children and families from across Southern New England.
CONNECTICUT CHILDREN’S ORTHOPAEDICS PROGRAM
From sports injuries and gait disorders to cerebral palsy and spinal deformities, Connecticut Children’s growing Orthopaedics program specializes in the
diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of bone and joint injuries and neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders. With one of the most experienced
teams of orthopaedic surgeons and specialists in the state, the Orthopaedics Division manages more than 31,000 pediatric patient visits and performs
more than 1,350 operations each year.
High Tech and Highly Trained
Connecticut Children’s is the only medical center in the state to offer vertical expandable prosthetic titanium rib (VEPTR), a life-changing device that helps
straighten the spines of children with difficult-to-treat spinal deformities, such as severe forms of scoliosis. Our highly trained physicians also manage
a range of complex foot deformities and are the only orthopaedic specialists in the state certified in the Ponseti method, a manipulative technique that
corrects congenital clubfoot without invasive surgery.
Sports Medicine
In addition, the Division offers a comprehensive and progressive Sports Medicine program. Our Elite Sports Medicine team works with youth, adolescents
and young adult athletes to help them recover from sidelining injuries, and offers a state-of-the-art resource for injury prevention, performance training
and education. As a leading resource for sports injury care, Connecticut Children’s offers growth plate-sparing ACL – or anterior cruciate ligament –
surgical reconstruction techniques and a unique, comprehensive concussion management program.
Motion Analysis
As the only center of its kind in Connecticut and the first in the United States dedicated to treating children with gait disorders, Connecticut Children’s
Center for Motion Analysis uses leading-edge technology to identify muscle activity, movements and other mobility nuances that are unique to each child,
with conditions ranging from joint and hip issues to brain and spinal cord injuries.
Tournament Beneficiary
The 2015 Geno Auriemma “Fore the Kids” Golf Tournament is proud to support Connecticut Children’s Orthopaedics Program, one of the top pediatric
orthopaedics programs in the nation. Proceeds from this year’s event will be used towards the purchase of an ultra low-dose 2D/3D imaging system,
which will provide Connecticut Children’s orthopaedic surgeons with excellent image quality to meet spinal and limb alignment imaging needs of pediatric
patients. The cost of this imaging technology is approximately $700,000.
