Interesting Facts
Monkeys are closely related to human beings.
There are some close resemblances such as face shape, hand
appearance and the use of the hand. However, the appearance of
their hind legs and the use of them are peculiar to monkeys.
Please try to observe the differences between the bodies of monkeys, human and other animals.
The Japanese Macaque has a highly structured society. In their
lives, they form close relationships with each other and each
monkey fulfills specific roles within their group. Please try to
observe the roles that each monkey fulfills in their group.

People named the area Jigokudani (Hell's
valley) because the steep cliffs and hot
water, bursting from the earth's surface,
resembled hell. However, this place is paradise for monkeys. 200 of monkeys inhabit
the area at present.
