It’s fair to say that Kombo is one of the livelier Gambian hotels, and there always
appears to be something going on, be it organised daytime activities around the
pool area (table tennis or water polo, anyone?), cultural acts in the evening from
drumming troupes to the smooth saxophone of the local police jazz band. That
said, the hotel wears its active nature with a distinctively Gambian charm: things
are never too lively and you can always slip into a relaxing doze in the massage
parlour, by the pool or on the beach…

The spacious standard rooms are fairly basic and arrayed in three-storey buildings,
with views towards the ocean or overlooking the lush gardens and there are
numerous room types should you wish to upgrade. The hotel’s two bars and
restaurants share equally good locations, gathered around the pool area and
within earshot of the gently rolling surf. There’s something distinctively ‘Kombo’
about the early evening and enjoying a cool Julbrew while you gaze into the
setting sun as a humming orange glow gradually settles across the ocean…

I believe Kombo suits almost anyone and received very
positive feedback last winter – it has an unbeatable beach
location in my opinion along with a wide choice of room
types. It’s great that Wi-Fi is now included in public areas.
