Thabo Mbeki at a cultural encounter
session between the ANC Youth and
Students Section and their German
hosts, Beichlingen, German Democratic
Republic, August 1971. In the first
sequence, Mbeki and Poppy Nokwe,
Duma Nokwe’s daughter, demonstrate
how to dance to the kwela. In the second
sequence, Mbeki leads his gumboot
dancing troupe through its paces, with
a little help from their German comrades.
