Giardini Naxos quest’anno si è tenuta la seconda edizione di “Children of the wind”. Come
promesso dal suo organizzatore, il Sig. Pietro
Giannetto, nel corso di un intervista pubblicata sul numero di TuttoArabi n. 3/09, quest’anno la manifestazione
si è svolta in sei giornate. Dal 9 al 14 di Aprile infatti a
Giardini Naxos si è respirato un aria antica come la terra
che ci ha ospitati, quella dei cavalli arabi. Antica è anche
la tradizione che vede il popolo Siciliano legato a questi
splendidi animali. Venerdì 9 al castello San Marco di Calatabiano si è svolta una conferenza interamente dedicata
al Purosangue Arabo. Credo sia una novità per quanto
riguarda il mondo allevatoriale e addetti del settore, in
quanto molte sono le associazioni Europee e Mondiali
che organizzano riunioni, ma in questo caso c’è stato un
vero e proprio confronto tra oriente e occidente. A disposizione di tutti i partecipanti,
vista la molteplicità dei
paesi presenti, sono state
messe a disposizione due
traduttrici simultanee che
in apposite cuffie forniteci, traducevano tutto il dibattito. Numerose le personalità che hanno aderito
all’iniziativa, ne nominerò
qualcuna ma ci vorrebbe

he second edition of “Children of the Wind” was held
in Giardini Naxos this year. As its organizer, Mr.
Pietro Giannetto, promised in an interview published on issue no. 3/09 of TuttoArabi, this year’s event took place
was staggered over six days. Between April 9th and 14th, the
atmosphere in Giardini Naxos was that of the ancient days,
ancient as the land of the Arabian horses that hosted us. Traditionally, the Sicilian people have had a connection with these
wonderful animals for many centuries. A conference entirely
devoted to the Purebred Arabian was organized on Friday
9th at Castello San Marco in Calatabiano. This is a first for
breeders and sector experts, as there are many European and
World association organizing meetings, but this time it was a
real case of East meeting West. Given the numerous countries
attending, two interpreters provided simultaneous translation
of the
whole debate through special
earphones made available to us.
Many important people took
part, including Dr. Hans Nagel, President of WAHO, the
Egyptian Minister for Agriculture Dr. Ahmed Hamza,
Mrs. Judith Forbis of Ansata

liticians, the Mayor of Naxos and many others.
On this point, I would like to inform readers
that the entire conference will be published on
the August/September issue with all the reports
and the comments written by the creator of the
conference, Mrs. Monika Savier. On the following days, the international ECAHO Class
“C” conformation show and the Egyptian
Event were held along the Naxos seafront. The
two days after the show were a real treat from
the organizers, who took us for a visit of the

conferenza: la Sig.ra Monika Savier. Nei giorni successivi,
sul lungo mare di Naxos si è svolto il concorso morfologico internazionale di classe C Ecaho e l’Egyptian Event.
I due giorni successivi allo show sono stati un vero regalo da parte dell’organizzazione, che ci ha fatto visitare le
meraviglie di questa isola che è la Sicilia. Anche per la
descrizione del tour bisognerebbe scrivere un libro, perciò
mi limito a ringraziare ancora Pietro e la regione Sicilia
che ha permesso tutto questo.
Per cominciare a parlare dello show introduco già un argomento di cui si è molto discusso nei tre giorni della gara: il
campo! Credo che ormai se ne siano già dette di tutti i colori su quello che è stato il campo gara, ma penso che per
un altr’anno si sia già individuata la soluzione. Penso anche che con i mezzi a disposizione della regione non sarà
difficile rimediare con un fondo sicuramente migliore, sia
per gli handler che hanno rischiato le ginocchia correndo, sia per i cavalli impauriti dalla strana conformazione
sabbiosa e morbida. Ma anche per i giudici: la Sig.ra Irina
Stigler, la Sig.ra Sylvie Eberhardt, la Sig.ra Deirdre Hyde,
il Dott. Nasr Marei e il Dott. Gianmarco Aragno, il compito di giudicare arti affondati nel terreno non sia stato
sicuramente facile. Detto ciò però, il fattore campo resta sì
un problema da risolvere ma essendo uguale per tutti non
comporta uno svantaggio per nessuno. Splendida invece
la cornice di un golfo che tutto il mondo ci invidia: quello
su cui si staglia anche Taormina, che dista solo 5 km da
Naxos. Infatti proprio sulla spiaggia si è svolta la manifestazione (ecco spiegato il motivo della sabbia) ricca di piccoli stand con prodotti locali e delle belle tribune da 2000
posti, sempre gremite di persone. Bella anche la soluzione
dei tavoli V.I.P. rialzati in modo da avere una buona visuale dello show. Sotto un pallido sole e una temperatura più

Sicilian beauties. A book would not be enough to describe the
tour, so I will just mention that our thanks go once again to
Pietro and the Regional Council of Sicily which gave us the
opportunity for all this.
To start talking about the show, I will introduce a topic that
was hotly debated during the three days of the competition: the
racing field! In my view, lots of words have already been written to describe what the field was like, but I think that they
will find a solution for next year. I also think that, given the
resources available to this region, it will not be difficult to find
a better terrain, for the benefit of both the handlers, who risked
their knees running, and the horses, frightened by the strange
sandy and soft ground. But also for the judges - Mrs. Irina
Stigler, Mrs. Sylvie Eberhardt, Mrs. Deirdre Hyde, Dr. Nasr
Marei and Dr. Gianmarco Aragno – the task of scoring legs
sinking into the ground was certainly not easy. Having said
that, the field factor is certainly a problem that needs to be tackled, but it was a problem for everyone, and so it did not give
anyone a disadvantage. Conversely, the gulf that the whole
world is envious of was simply stunning: it also encompasses
Taormina, which is just 5 km from Naxos. The race was held
on the beach (hence the problem with the sand), with lots of
small stalls offering local products and beautiful stands with a
capacity of 2,000 seats, always full. Clever was also the idea of
raising the VIP tables, so that they could be a good view of the
show. The categories started under a timid sun and a temperature that is more suitable for a more northern country, not the
south. 135 horses were entered, including the Egyptian Event.

Ultima classe, puledre di tre anni vede vincitrice della categoria e Silver Medal nel campionato tenutosi domenica
pomeriggio, la bella “PSE RASHEEKAH” (Royal Colours X Imperial Baarezah) dell’allevamento Belga Prestige BVBA del Sig. Pier Groenen. La categoria Puledri
di un anno è vinta da “AG SHEIKHOMAN” (Ajman X
Ag Excquisit) dell’allevamento Ag Nobel Arabians, che
si aggiudica anche la Silver Medal nel campionato finale.
Secondo della sua categoria è “DA CAIRO” (Massai Ibn
Marenga X Da Cervia) dell’az Agr. Antonio Stefano. Primo classificato in categoria due anni è “LANCE LORD
OS” (Wh Justice X Swana) del Sig. Heinz Stockle dalla
Germania, secondo “GS DAHAB” (Wahid X Im Vanda
Cathare) di Salvatore Graffato. Terza ed ultima classe per
i puledri, quella di tre anni la vince in casa “RFI FARID”
(Rfi Maktub X Rfi Fayara El Shiraz) campione italiano
puledri 2009, dell’allevamento Aretusa Arabians di Giuseppe Palumbo che si aggiudica anche la Gold Medal
in campionato. Secondo è un cavallo proveniente dalla
Germania del Sig. Heinz Stockle e vincitore anche della
Bronze Medal: “JUMANCI OS” (Ajman X Praetoria).
La categoria fattrici 4/5/6 anni se la aggiudica “ADONIA
BPA” (Meridien Atl X Lc Mon amie) del Sig. Reina Giuseppe, questa fattrice importata dall’America vince anche

Second only in the category was “MA NINA EL BRI” (Ch
El Brillo X Calyenna El Jamaal) from M G Arabians. The
category of mares aged over 10 and the Gold Medal in the Final Championship was won by the beautiful “MILLENNIA”
(Thefinaljudgement X Madeira), imported from Germany
and owned by Mr. Giampaolo Gubbiotti. The second place in
the category went to a Polish mare imported and owned by
GE.MAR, “ELICJA” (Wachlarz X Elia). Last to compete but

At the end of this fantastic event, both for number of events
