Up in the air goes Tom Kirkconnell in an attempt to score against Clare in a home game.
Mike Claus is the other fighting Oiler in the
picture.
With minutes to go before the start of an improtant game, the Oilers take
time out to pose. ROW 1: G. Figg, K. McWilliams, B. Lovejoy, H. Pety,
B. Jackson, Manager B. Klunzinger. ROW 2: Coach B. Wardrop, J. Hickman, R. Burns, F. Burns, D. Peterson, T. Kirkconnell, M. Claus, D. Wiley,
B. Rhodes, L. Stinson.
The Oilers' faucet-like playing, sometimes
hot, sometimes cold in a 9—10 season . . . Jeri
Hickman's thrilling last-second basket against
Kalamazoo . . . the-cat-who-got-the-cream feeling after the win over Alma . . . magnificent defensive work of Tom Kirkconnell in holding
down Ludington's Steve Schoenherr . . . Coach
Wardrop's suffering on the bench . . . the earshattering roar of the predominantly female
crowd . . . Finally, the heartbreaking loss to
Alpena Catholic Central in the Regionals
which eliminated a fine Oiler team that had
played tremendous basketball during the entire
tournament.
The Junior Varsity conference championship won by the reserves . . . twice defeating
Ludington, a team never before defeated twice
in a season in Junior Varsity action .. . Milt
Otteman as high point man for the season .. .
heartbreaking losses to St. Johns and Alma . . .
moving up of five first-string players to the
varsity in the middle of the season . . . The JV
team deserves a round of applause for this
year's fine action and wonderful 14—2 record.
Their best season in recent years was enjoyed by Coach Wally Moore's Wildcat squad.
ROW 1: J. Brewster, A. Krauss, R. Sailer, B. Stacy, B. Stahl, Coach W. Moore. ROW 2:
J. Osgood, B. Mefort, T. Scheall, D. Denney, D. Hole, R. Burns, D. Wright. ROW 3:
J. Recker, B. Scott, M. Otteman, B. Hoot, D. Wilson, T. Rand, B. Howard.
Endless waiting for the ball seems to be the
situation in this JV shot. Among junior Oilers here are Bob Stahl (16), J i m Recker (12),
and Milt Otteman (15).
