FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
DEAR PARISHIONERS and VISITORS:
Prayer for the Week
Catholic spiritual writer, Matthew Kelly, through his books
(Rediscover Catholicism & Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic) has
offered us three ways of engaging Jesus Christ and his kingdom .
He challenges us to try one of these three ways for a year:
1) read Scripture from one of the four Gospels 10 m inutes a day
every day for a year
2) receive the sacram ent of confession once a m onth or so
every m onth for a year
3) start a Mass Journal every Sunday for a year/ write down one
thing at that Mass that will help you
to be the best version of yourself.
Now for Advent, Matthew and his team have put together an
internet based resource for each of us to receive in our em ail
inbox, a great resource item each day of Advent. The site to
c h e c k o u t is R L IN K " http://w ww .bes tadventever.c o m
"www.bestadventever.com .
Please see the insert in the bulletin for m ore inform ation. I have
signed up for this and I look forward to this helpful resource.
May God continue to bless Matthew Kelly and his outreach team .
And m ay the good Lord help each of us to have the best Advent
season ever.
Fr. Galvon

Lord Jesus, in the Incarnation, You
entered into the world clothed in the
infirm ities of m an. You cam e upon earth
to set up in m en’s hearts the kingdom of
God. But you were rejected by the people
of Your tim e. You died the death of a
public crim inal. Your m ission, judged
according to the opinion of the people,
seem ed a com plete failure.
But this was the Divine Plan. Being an allknowing and all-powerful God, You
reserved Your trium ph to the Last Day,
when You will com e “with great power and
m ajesty” to com plete trium phantly Your
work upon earth, and to establish forever
the New Jerusalem , the Kingdom of God
in heaven.
Give m e the grace to m ake use of the
present tim e to reform m y life and save
m y soul. Thus, by giving up sin, receiving
the Sacram ents frequently, and praying,
m ay I prepare m yself for Your second
com ing, when, with hope and confidence
in m y heart, I will join com pany with the
hosts of the just who “stand before the
Son of Man”. Am en.

Adviento y Navidad
Quien no espera
nada está acabado como persona y como cristiano.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
On this first Sunday of Advent, Jesus warns his disciples
about the end-tim e. He urges them to pray, be vigilant,
spiritually awake, avoid self-indulgence, spiritual m alaise, and
a preoccupation with anxiety. Jesus advises against a lifestyle
of earthly pleasures and worry. These will not m atter when the
Lord asks for an account of our stewardship. Stewards realize
their lives are not just about the here and now. They know
them selves to be reflections of God’s active presence in the
world and witnesses of the Lord’s prom ises. As we begin this
season of hope, let us reflect on the practical effect of having
every waking m om ent in our lives dedicated to the Lord.
