Thursday the 26th, we held a board
meeting at our house to discuss the
Merriman award for 2014 and changes
needed to accommodate more names on
the National Trophy. Plans were also
finalized for our September tour to
Topeka, Kansas. It will be the weekend of
Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th. Bill
Carney and I have been working on
activities for the weekend here is a partial
list: Air Force Museum, Kansas National
Guard Museum, the just completed
renovation of the State Capitol & Dome,
Todd Williams restoration facility, his Ford
Model A and 50 plus pedal car collection,
Bill Carney Collection and restoration shop,
plus more to be announced. We will have
block

hotel
rooms
to
be
determined. Want to invite all our
members to come and would like to
extend an invitation to the Hawkeye and
Great Plains Packard Clubs members to
join us. It should be a fun weekend.
REGULAR MONTHLY MEETINGS ARE HELD AT YOUR CLASSIC RIDE, 2711
WARWICK TRAFFICWAY, KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI AT 7:30 PM ON THE

Mid-America Packards gives our support to the Kansas City Automotive Museum
– currently we have members volunteering to act as docents of the museum. You
can too!
In addition, we have been invited to park some Packards in the KCAM “Drive-In
Theater” setting. The museum will have room for us to display six Packards for a
one-month period, which would be a nice addition for the museum and great
exposure for our club and our favorite cars. If interested, please contact Tom
Norman.

Pross Tid Cross (not surprisingly he went by P.T.) was a resident of Lathrop, Missouri during the early years of the
20th Century, an attorney practicing in Clinton County, as well as Democratic Missouri State Representative for his
district. He eventually became the Democratic Party leader in the Missouri House of Representatives.
In 1915, Cross was injured just outside of Liberty, Missouri, along with several others, during a head-on collision of
Burlington #4 coming out of Kansas City and Rock Island #3 inbound from Chicago. However, in spite of his
mechanical mishaps, he lived to the age of 93, passing away in 1969.
Mr. Cross tells his story of his first experience in motoring, and the trip that he and his wife, Nina, undertook in 1904,
only 2 months before his election to the Missouri State Legislature:

The 2014 Art of the Car Concours
Once again, the Kansas City “Art of the Car” concours was a wonderful show held
on a beautiful day. Steve Christy hit the lawn with camera in hand, and found not
only a few lovely Packards, but some Packard people, too! Dick & Sue Boswell
drove down from Lincoln, Nebraska with their friends, Jim & Karen Snyder (Dick
and Jim are pictured below) and all the way from Iowa were Russ & Marj Bees,
seen on the next page (photo courtesy Dick Boswell).
