Greenville County Death Trends
• Infants placed on adult bed or sofa
• Babies placed on inclines, pillows or blanket rolls
• Some infants placed in an unsafe position or had objects in
sleep area
• Majority of infants had 1 or 2 safe sleep environments
available in the home (crib, bassinet, pack ‘n play) at the
time of the death
• Majority of the cribs, bassinets, pack ‘n plays were utilized
for storage of items (clothes, diapers, wipes, toys, bottles,
pillows, stuffed animals)
• None of the deaths were ruled SIDS and all of the cases
were preventable
