December Report
Santa Call-In – We had another successful Santa Call-in program
on December 9. A report from Shannon Hunter and Teresa Renneke, the
program’s producers, is attached. Although the number of on-air calls was down
from last year, the number of web views increased. Again, we want to thank our
sponsors: Mike Bradley, Bridging, Byerly’s, Costco and Jimmy Johns.
Fund Development – I want to acknowledge the work that Jordan
Thompson has put into fund development for our Youth Media Program. Earlier
in 2014, he was successful in getting a $10,000 grant from Best Buy. In
December, we received a $2,500 grant from the Roseville Community Fund.
Operating Grant from Comcast Subscribers – On December 30,
2014, we received from Comcast the check for the first quarter 2015 Operating
Grant. The good news is that the 2015 budget for the operating grant assumed a
20% decrease for Shoreview’s share. The actual percentage decrease was
19.06%, so the amount per quarter is $313,646 instead of of $310,021.
However, the company also allocated 19.06% of the $50,000 equipment grant to
Shoreview as well. Nevertheless, we will come out almost $5,000 ahead in the
budget.
Business Manager Position – So far, I have received 13 resumés
and a number of additional inquiries regarding the Business Manager position. I
will be reviewing the resumés and scheduling interviews in the next couple of
weeks.
Video for Mayor Bill Blesener – I want to acknowledge Shannon
Hunter’s work on the memorial video for Little Canada’s Mayor Bill Blesener, who
died just before Christmas. Working with footage provided by Little Canada’s
muncipal producer, Vanessa Van Alstine, as well as material that we had,
Shannon was able to put together a very nice program and get it to the city and
to the family in time for the viewing and funeral on December 26 and 27. Director
Rick Montour narrated the program, which you can watch on our channel and online on both the CTV and the Little Canada websites.

Pat Cook, Senior Technician and Facilities Coordinator
SUBJECT
December Report
Technical Operations
• Pat Cook had an opportunity to meet with the representatives from Century Link and discuss some of
the technical issues related to their potential franchising and PEG. Cor has suggested to the Century
Link group that a meeting with the MN PEG Technical Syndicate (MPEG-TS) would be beneficial in
covering information about the technical issues throughout the Metro area.
•
Pat Cook is continuing his work on plans for 2015’s upgrades.
•
We completed two big shoots in December. They were Santa Call-In and Shoreview Northern Lights
Variety Band Concert. Both were exciting productions. For the Shoreview Northern Lights production,
nine cameras were used, as well as running it on a big screen for the audience to view.
•
The Xpression CG’s are installed in the training room in preparation for staff and volunteer training.
•
Don Swenson’s monthly report is included.
IT and I-Net Operations
• We are waiting on installation of a demonstration product of My Media Center Manager that we are
considering implementing in 2015. It is a completely web based solution that will allow volunteers to
do their own equipment reservations with staff approval and many more hands on applications. It also
integrates with our current playback system for VOD requesting and purchasing.
•
Terri Schultz has also been researching the viability of our programming being available on the
streaming TV players such as Roku.
•
A monthly city meeting web stream report is included.
City and School Assistance
• Pat Cook uninstalled the Shoreview equipment and prepared it for their pick up. We are reconfiguring
our systems, including channel and web site to reflect their absence.
•
Pat Cook has been assisting Little Canada’s Cable Producer, Vanessa Van Alstine, to prepare
drawings for their 2015 City Hall upgrade. Don Swenson and John Sommer attended a meeting in
Little Canada regarding the upgrade schedule.
Trucks
• There were 17 truck shoots in December, 14 of which were live.
•
The blue truck is in the shop getting its flooring replaced with the rubber floor covering. We are also
pricing some type of step protection to avoid them being slippery in wet weather.

Surplus Equipment
I have attached list of equipment that we would like to have
declared surplus so that we can dispose of it. As in the past, we will first make
the equipment available to our member cities and then to the three school
districts. Whatever is left will either be sold or recycled.
Action Requested: Motion to declare the equipment on the
attached list to be surplus and no longer needed by the NSAC and to direct staff
to dispose of said equipment as appropriate.
