USA and Jamia Hamdard University, India for
promoting research.
Overall development of the individual is the ethical
goal of education from all the perspectives. This
neccessitates incredible efforts on the part of all
concerned. This gesture is a tribute to maintain standard
of excellence in academics and commitment to quality
education.
There are strong challenges to great efforts but, we
always remember that great effort bears the sweet fruit
of success. We want our students to taste the fruit of
success once and for the rest of their life, they will never
rest. We started our journey with challenging
experiences in the process to emerge into a reputed
institute with a laudable ambition of spreading
education to meet the educational needs of the aspirant
youth.
Here at IMS, our vision, mission, and values, on the
basis of which we have been able to establish this
prestigious institute, are quite pragmatic enough to
provide high quality education to our students. The
holistic approach of IMS stimulates innovation among
students by inspiring fresh ideas with different
perceptiveness, creative thinking and strong conviction
to achieve true success.
We at IMS are in the pursuit of global standards of
excellence in all our endeavors and we aim at creating
all rounded personality in our students, professionally
and socially. Hence, we strive to travel beyond the
boundaries of mere books and make the students realize
that the future is abstract and unknown but the present
that is in our hands is real and can be moulded. This has
been acknowledge by global business houses during
our placement drives as well.
The institute presents a blend of traditional and modern
education where knowledge is imparted to the students
so that they may occupy a better place in the modern
competitive world and develop all round personalities
retaining the beauty of mind and intellect as well as of
soul. We feel it’s our moral obligation to help the

compiling activities over the year and disseminated
them through this Magazine.

an important role in life. It teaches self control,
firmness and having belief in your thoughts. It is an
expression of dedication, which each intellect shall
carry throughout his life. Every individual must set a
self goal and then work towards achieving it.

develop an action plan to move forward and change.
We all are capable and there will be doubts and fears
when stepping out to achieve our goals and also we
have to move out of comfort zone. But in order to
accomplish this, we have to grit our teeth and work
through any fears that come across our way. If you
have clear goals and you believe you can reach them,
then your mind has the highest possible amount of
receptivity to elements that can help you reach your
goals. Thus you'll detect them quickly, even the subtle
ones, and you'll be able to employ them.

Confluence, being a quarterly magazine is a spectrum of plenteous activities happening at IMS Ghaziabad
which exhibits plethora of talent. It has shades like institution embarking its global and national presence, its
students performing and earning accolade at inter and intra college activities.
This quarter has been highly eventful and the institution has added another feather to its cap by signing MOU's
with International and National universities for students becoming eligible for a global career and promoting
research. Moreover its efforts are being recognized with Best Management Institute Award by ASSOCHAM
for the year 2014.

Global Achievements
Global Academic Achievement with University of Atlanta, USA
IMS Ghaziabad feels honored in sharing its greatest achievement of MOU with University of Atlanta, USA.
Memorandum of Understanding for Dual Degree Program of PGDM/MBA has been signed between IMS
Ghaziabad and University of Atlanta, USA. The MOU has been signed by Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director, IMS
Ghaziabad and Mr. Evan Gleeson, Director (Partnership), IAO. This global partnership will enable the students to
go for international education and become eligible for global career. This could have been possible because of
continuous support of Shri Rakesh Chharia, Managing Trustee, IMS Society.
Academic Tie- up with Jamia Hamdard University
Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad has tied up with Jamia Hamdard (Deemed University), New Delhi on
November 22, 2014. Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director, IMS Ghaziabad and Dr. S. Raisuddin, Advisor Research, Jamia
Hamdard University, New Delhi signed the MOU in the presence of Shri Rakesh Chharia, Managing Trustee, IMS
Ghaziabad, Faculty and Staff members at IMS Ghaziabad. As per MOU, now IMS Ghaziabad can grant Ph.D.
Degree to the pursuing and prospective scholars in disciplines like Management, IT, Biotechnology, Engineering
etc. in collaboration with Jamia Hamdard (Deemed University), New Delhi. With this accomplishment, IMS,
Ghaziabad has now been acknowledged as an Authorized Research Study Centre of Jamia Hamdard (Deemed
University), New Delhi.

She elucidated the significance of creativity in the sphere of
management and expressed her gratitude towards intellectuals who
participated wholeheartedly in this initiative of IMS Ghaziabad.
Expert speakers from University of Delhi, Industry and
Government affairs, ISBA, NASSCOM, Hamdard University,
BIMTECH and from other renowned universities enlightened the
audience about the revolutionary initiatives required in the domains
of Innovation and Creativity Management. 2nd International
Conference (ICM-2014) provided a global forum through 26
concurrent technical sessions where 200 Research papers had been
presented revolving around the theme. More than 400 delegates
participated from India and abroad to present their views on the
theme. Conference Co-Chairs Dr. Rinku Sanjeev and Dr. Sunayana
Jain concluded the conference with the vote of thanks.

MELANGE 2014 Inter Institute Annual
Melange 2014 - a medley of uninterrupted entertainment, a spectacular exhibition of arts, music, dance, drama, and
something to suit everybody is what gives Melange - an intercollegiate annual fest of IMS Ghaziabad its
magnificence. To mark the silver jubilee celebrations of imparting excellent technical and management education
as well as significant contributions in Human Development Index, Melange 2014 has been organized by IMS
Ghaziabad on September 30, 2014 and October 1, 2014. Notable figure - Ambassador V. B. Soni, Chairman,
Overseas Infra Alliance Pvt. Ltd graced the occasion as the chief guest of the two day annual fest - Melange 2014.
Other prominent guests like Mr. Sandeep Jethani - Director - ATS learning Solutions, Mr. Ravi Taneja - Deputy GM
OBC, Mr. Pramod Agarwal - President International Naturopathy Organization and personalities from academia
and personalities from academia and corporate were also a part of this outstanding gathering.

Cultural Festival
Melange 2014, a two day multicultural fest has been
conceived as a platform for students to showcase their skills,
creative talent and caliber and is performing this task since last
25 years. This two day fest was bejewelled by a plethora of
vents ranging from varied genres in the categories of Music,
Arts, Dance, Skit, Rangoli, Photography, Fashion, Quiz,
Battle of Bands and many more. The zeal and enthusiasm
have reached to the blended snapshot of our traditional culture
and modern arena.
The fest grew manifold in scale and tremendous participation
can be witnessed by the fact that students of IMS Ghaziabad
Group of Institutions and more than 150 teams from 60
Institutes/Universities like Delhi University, IP University,
Amity University, Aligarh Muslim University, Galgotia
University, Manav Rachana University and many more
compromising of more than 1000 participants participated in
2 days event. Rewarding the winners with trophies and
certificates further boosted the morale of students.
With a myriad of fun and intellectually stimulating events
along with a versatile crowd, Melange has consolidated its
position as premier inter collegate fest, encompassing the
aspirations and enthusiasm of students.

CSR Activities at IMS Ghaziabad
Swachh Bharat Oath Ceremony
IMS Ghaziabad organized an oath taking ceremony on October 17, 2014
for the initiative taken by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of
Human Resource Development and AICTE, New Delhi for Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan. The ceremony aimed at undertaking of “Cleanliness
Oath” by all the faculty members, staff and students to participate in this
Nation-wide Campaign. Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director addressed the
gathering on the significance and implication of this campaign. She
expressed her wish to outreach programms such as adoption of colonies
for cleanliness, creating awareness among the general public on the
necessity of sanitation and healthy living and many other events with the
help of our students in the coming months. In continuation of the same, to
create awareness among the students, on October 9, 2014 Institute
organized an Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Swachh Bharat,
Shakt Bharat” in English and Hindi both. The prizes for the competition
were announced during the event and the winners and runners up were
felicitated after oath taking ceremony.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Marathon

The “Swach Bharat Abhiyan” campaign was kick - started by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, who led from the forefront wielding a broom to
make India clean and open defecation free (ODF) nation by the year 2019.
The campaign has already got overwhelming support from corporate
houses as part of CSR as well as celebrities joining into make it a mass
movement. IMS Ghaziabad took the initiative to take the campaign further
by organizing the 3rd Swachh Bharat Swachh Ghaziabad - Marathon on
December 5, 2014 as a part of Silver Jubilee Celebrations at Central Park,
RDC, Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad. The event was flagged off by the Honorable
Mayor of Ghaziabad Shri. Teluram Kamboj Ji. It may be the onset of lazy
winter, but not so for the IMSian’s. The marathon flagged off at 8:30 with
about 1000 students draped in beautiful white T-Shirts with IMS logo. The
faculty joining the students for the run made it one of the events to
remember and penned down in IMS History. It was a day when everyone
had their eyes on the students craving to bestir that humanitarianism in
each one of us. Amidst this there were a few who dripped in sweat all
through the run to receive the winning honors’. Being part of the Jamboree
and supporting a social cause was something not to be missed.
Mr. Rakshpal Singh, ADM Ghaziabad and Mr. Kapil Singh, City
Magistrate felicitated the winners of the Marathon Mr. Prashant Singh
(MCA 2nd Year), Ms. Khushboo (MCA 1st Year) Mr. Chandrahash Singh
(PGDM 2nd Year), Mr. Yash Sarasawat (PGDM 2nd Year) and Staff
Member Mr. Sukhpal Singh and Mr. Robins with the prizes during the
concluding ceremony. The coordinators of the Marathon were Dr. S. K.
Dube, Associate Professor and Dr. Sheelesh Sharma, Associate Professor.

National Seminar on Mobile Technology and Cloud Computing
Challenges and Opportunities (NMTCC - 2014)
To determine and promote solutions based on the technological and
socially beneficial applications of new age “mobile and cloud
computing” technology and services, a National Seminar was
organized on “Mobile Technology and Cloud Computing
Challenges and Opportunities “(NMTCC - 2014) on Saturday,
November 1, 2014 at IMS, Ghaziabad. The seminar saw its Chief
Guest as the eminent Prof. D.S Yadav (Pro Vice Chancellor - UPTU)
who along with Shri Rakesh Chharia, Management Trustee, IMS
Ghaziabad and Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director IMS Ghaziabad
inaugurate the seminar.
During the two technical sessions, highly renowned technocrats and
reputed experts from academia as well as industry from across the
country graced this colloquium, that include - Mr. Sanjiva Dubey
(Asia Pacific Head Service Delivery IBM - IGA), Mr. Vikas Phogat
(Head of Entry Product Line - Telco at Morpho e-Documents), Mr.
Sarosh Aggarwal (Head - SAP India), Mr. Maneesh Sharma Head Business Development - SAP India Subcontinent), Mr. Vivek
Agarwal (Director & Head Customer Support - Ericsson) - and many
more distinguished personalities of the IT milieu.The sessions were
attended by more than two hundred delegates, who gained and
shared their knowledge through this seminar which was convened
by Dr. Avadhesh Kumar Gupta (Ho D-MCA, IMS Ghaziabad) and
co-convened by Prof. Sachin Malhotra and Dr. Manisha Agarwal.

FDP on Big Data Computing
Faculty Development Programme on Big Data Computing was organized on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at IMS
Ghaziabad. Key Note Speaker Dr. L V Subramaniam, IBM India ,Expert Speaker Mr Himanshu Gupta, IBM India,
Shri Rakesh Chharia – Management Trustee and Dr. Urvashi Makkar – Director IMS Ghaziabad inaugurated the
FDP with the lamp lighting ceremony to goddess Saraswati.
Highly renowned and reputed faculty delegates from academia across the country graced the event and gained the
expert information about the topic. The FDP Programme was followed with the Valedictory Ceremony and MOU
Signing Ceremony with Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. Convener, Dr. Avadhesh Kumar Gupta and Co- Convener are
Prof. Sachin Malhotra and Dr. Sheelesh Sharma concluded the FDP with vote of thanks.

MDP on Achieving Service Excellence Through Customer Orientation
The Institute of Management Studies Ghaziabad organized an MDP on a very contemporary theme in keeping with
its glorious tradition of imparting quality education and training to commemorate 25 years of legacy. The program
was organized in association with NIESBUD (National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business
Development) and primarily aimed at bridging the industry academia divide and enhance the institute industry
interaction.
The program, organized under the patronage of Shri Rakesh Chharia, Managing Trustee, IMS Society and Dr.
Urvashi Makkar, Director - IMS Ghaziabad, was inaugurated by Dr. Rishi Raj Singh (Director International
Training Programs), NIESBUD. Dr. Makkar welcomed the dignitaries and delegates from eminent organization
like ALSTOM, UEM Group, Nudeus Software and many others and emphasized on the significance of customer
orientation.
The Facilitators Dr. Harsh Verma, a senior academician from, FMS Delhi University and Mr. Vishal Gupta, Director
National Sales-Delhi NCR at Marriott International emphasized on the key issues by using a blend of case
discussions, group exercises, games and discussion Dr. Timira Shukla, Faculty Convener proposed the vote of
thanks in the valedictory session.

Centre for Competency Development & Research (CCDR)
HPCL Training Program
Under the stewardship of Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director IMS Ghaziabad, the Center for Competency Development
& Research - a Research & Training Arm of IMS Ghaziabad successfully conducted the training Program for the
Female Fore -court Sales force Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. New Delhi on October 30th, 2014.
An Ice-breaking session for all the Females Fms enlivened them with vigor and helped them put their best foot
forward and participate. The spark of belongingness to HPCL was ignited in all the FSMs through outbound
activities co-relating their experience and time span with HPCL in comparison to shopping to any new employer
thereby creating brand loyalty. The audio videos displayed ensured them to question the importance of personality
quotient and their present ability as brand ambassador of the company the external customers. IMS Ghaziabad
conferred the “Star Performer Award” to the best performance of the day along with the Certificate of Participation
to each and every participant. The Rewards and Recognition ceremony took place in benign presence of Mr. P P
Ganguly, Zonal Head, Mr. P K Uppal, Regional Head and Ms. Poonam Mittal, Manager, RE & MIS of HPCL.
EdCIL Training Program
The 2nd batch of training program on Communication Skill – Written & Verbal was successfully conducted by
Centre for Competency Development & Research on Sept 12th &13th,2014 for employees of EdCIL (India)
Limited, Noida. The training program was held in the magnanimous campus of IMS Ghaziabad with high quality
hospitality arrangements. With numerous management games, icebreakers, warm up energizers and role plays, the
participants were highly invigorated &, motivated. Filled with curiosity and inquisitivity, they participated to their
best levels in all the management games and enjoyed the warm up energizers to the brim. The trainers, Ms. Mansi
Gupta and Ms.Guneet Oberoi ensured the participants vividly comprehend the topic and imbibe the key attributes
of effective communication. IMS Ghaziabad conferred the “Star Performer Award” to the best performance of the
day. The Valedictory ceremony and the Rewards and Recognition session took place in the end.

SPIC MACAY - 2014 A Cultural Extravaganza
IMS Ghaziabad always admires the diverse form of Indian Culture and Heritage and has actively invoved itself in
promoting awareness among its students and stakeholders. With the same philosophy IMS Ghaziabad along with
SPICMACAY organized a culture fiesta celebrating its Silver Jubilee Year.
Prominent artist Sushri Mahua Shankar Ji (Disciple of the Great Birju Maharaj Ji in Kathak) on November 27, 2014
mesmerized the audience with her majestic performance in Kathak - a unique form of dance. She commenced with
the chronicle story of Kathak, and eventually related it with the modern era. The Auditorium was filled with
applauds and standing ovation in response of her magnificent performances.
On to its continuous journey of cultural Burlesque, IMS Ghaziabad organized a sufi Qawwali evening on December
01, 2014. Shri Yousuf Khan Nizami Ji enthralled the audience by his dynamic and caricatured ability to abbreviate
through qawwali. He commenced with the thanking note to the Institute and Spic Macay Society and then
delivered the amazing and staggering dialects in praise to Almighty. Auditorium was delighted by celestial feelings
and applauds.

Campus Round - up
There’s always something new to experience at the events held at IMS Ghaziabad and off campus locations year
round. These activities are an amalgamation of academic, co-curricular and extracurricular vertical. The reflection
of which can be witnessed in the outlook of our students.
Diwali Celebrations at IMS
At IMS Ghaziabad, The auspicious festival of lights, started with a wish that
the glow of joy, prosperity and happiness illuminates the days in the year
ahead and many more years to come in lives of all the family members of
IMS fraternity. On the eve of Dhanteras, Havan was organized in the
academic block where Shri Rakesh Chharia, Management Trustee, IMS
Ghaziabad and Dr Urvashi Makkar, Director, IMS Ghaziabad offered
prayers to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. The environment
enthralled with the hymns and prayers to enlighten one and all present with
knowledge, wealth and health and to pray communally for Institute's
Growth and Prosperity.
Live Project with K Group
IMS Ghaziabad successfully continued its mission of providing maximum
Industry exposure by offering 5 days Live project (Oct 9 - 13, 2014) to 51
PGDM Students, 51 PGDM Students had been given an opportunity to
work as a live project trainee during The K Group’s mega exhibition named
“All India Franchise” at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Five days of live
project inclusive of training was a full compacted learning experience for
the fresh budding managers. During the training and event students had
been exposed to implications of various class-room teaching and pedagogy,
which they have learned in their PGDM curriculum. This project created a
positive impact on the shaping minds with dozens of different unexampled
learning. Students have been dealing with the guests consists of Customers,
Corporate Giants and Bollywood Celebrities. This Exhaustive project
concluded with a Certificate of appreciation and stipend 2500 INR per
student from the recruiter.
Workshop on Entrepreneurship
The aim to provide 360 degree knowledge organized a half day workshop
for its PGDM Students on Essence of Entrepreneurship by Mr. Shantanu
Shrivastava, Managing Director & CEO, Ishan International Pvt. Ltd. The
workshop has thrown light on the facts and figures about Entrepreneurship .
Mr. Srivastava revealed the myths about the process and functioning of
becoming an entrepreneur and also shared the strategies for risk appetite and
foresightedness. Most of the students explicated their queries regarding the
traditional myths and scope of funding through venture capitalist. Mr
Ravish Roshan, Member Secretary - Centre for Education Growth and
Research was also part of the event. Workshop concluded with the
felicitation ceremony and with the hope that managers can be good
entrepreneurs.

Dr. Subhash Chandra’s Show on Entrepreneurship
IMS Ghaziabad with its motto to create entrepreneur out of a
manager always provide exposure to their students not only
within the campus but also believe to stretch its boundaries
outside IMS Campus. To provide practical learning Director of
IMS Dr. Urvashi Makkar always tries to put her endless effort in
implementation innovative ways to imbibe their students with
current scenario of industries.The Subash Chandra show is one
of the examples in the large list of industrial exposure which
IMS use to give to Ims’ians time-to-time. On October, 29, 2014,
IMS student along with its Director and few faculties went on
the Dr. Chandra’s Show where they discussed about the facts
and myths relating to Entrepreneurship. In the show Dr. Chandra
shared his eternal experience being an entrepreneur and the
locus of the show were to educate young budding managers how
they can think beyond placements and start their venture and
make difference in Indian economy, what are the basic traits
The students also brought the issue of India’s perception on entrepreneurship as compared to other professions into
limelight. In the great interaction session on the show not only students but the director of institute Dr. Makkar had
also shared her horizon on the discussion with amazing thought that “Not only an Businessman is an Entrepreneur,

IDEATHON–2014 @ IMS Ghaziabad
IMS CIIE- Center for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship,
under the patronage of Shri Rakesh Chharia, Management Trustee
and visionary leader Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director, IMS-Ghaziabad
through its entrepreneurial student arm TESS (The Entrepreneurial
Students Society of IMS Ghaziabad) organized IDEATHON – 2014
( An Inter College Business Idea Presentation Challenge). The
program was supported by MSME Development Institute, Govt of
India, SIDBI, SEEDFUND, CEGR and sponsored by IDOAG,
SoftTouch IT Solutions and IMS Ghaziabad students startups
HostelGoodies.in, Pampet.co.in, Project HB and
shoppingkeeda.com. The program was conducted with an objective
to provide IMSians and other aspiring student's entrepreneurs a
platform to kick start their entrepreneurial idea into action.
The shortlisted business ideas were presented by the participants and
the best 3 potential ideas have been selected by Jury panel members
and awarded. 1st Prize for Rs. 10, 000/- cash sponsored by IDOAG
and a Trophy from IMS Ghaziabad was awarded to flatnflatmates.in
(Mr. Pratik Sachdev PGDM IMS Ghaziabad), 2nd Prize of Rs. 8,
000/- cash sponsored by SoftTouch IT Solutions and a Trophy from
IMS Ghaziabad was awarded to Pampet.co.in (Mr. Mohit Chaudhary
and Mr. Chaitanya Puri PGDM IMS Ghaziabad). 3rd Prize, a gift
hampers worth of Rs. 5000/- sponsored by HostelGoodies.in and a
Trophy from IMS Ghaziabad to Gaonbazar.com.

ROAR at IMS Ghaziabad
IMS Ghaziabad feels proud in sharing that PGDM Alumnus Mr. Pranay
Dixit has been launched in upcoming movie ROAR. On October 16, 2014,
IMS Ghaziabad Campus has been embellished with the star cast of the
upcoming Bollywood thriller – ROAR, where its own alumnus Mr. Pranay
Dixit made his debut performance. Director Dr. Urvashi Makkar welcomed
the star cast of Roar – Mr. Aaran Chaudhary, Mr. Aadil Chahal and Ms. Nora
Fatehi, who visited the campus to promote their forthcoming film and
wished them a huge box office success. They have shared the purpose,
story-line and shooting scenario about the movie. PGDM Alumnus of IMS
Ghaziabad - Mr. Pranay Dixit shaped his ambition of acting while leaving
behind his banking career and made his mark from campus to bollywood.
Likewise Cast motivated present youngsters to follow their dream and
never compromise with the current situation. They enjoyed dancing with
the students on the hit track of rubaru and jeenede. Students and faculties
were exhilarated by performances and also feel pride while watching the
own alumnus approaching stardom.
MCA Alumni Talk Series
In Continuation to our consistent efforts to provide diverse platforms of
learning to our students, IMS Ghaziabad organized its First Alumni Talk
Series of MCA Department of new academic session on September 20,
2014. The session started with the prayers of Maa Saraswati and lighting of
the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director – IMS Ghaziabad
welcomed the Prominent Alumni to their second home. She shared the
importance of Alumni Linkages and their role in Institution building. Mr.
Ahmad Faraz, Project Manager- Dell Services advised the students to focus
on different areas of IT such as ERP, Cloud Computing and Business
Intelligence along with programming and logic for building their career. Mr
Amitabh Mukherjee, Assistant Vice President - Bank of America shared his
valuable experiences and suggested for continuous learning throughout the
career. The Session ended with the vote of thanks by Prof. Rajanish Jain.
Placement Readiness Enhancement Program 2014 at IMS, Ghaziabad
Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad organized 30 Hours
Certification Program on “Placement Readiness Enhancement
Programme” (PREP) for PGDM students of Term-V which got successfully
completed on November 5, 2014. Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director, IMS
Ghaziabad congratulated all PGDM students for completing PREP. The
PREP programme was conducted by Mr. Pramod Joshi and his Team of 'The
Winning Mantra'. All the students were felicitated with the participation
Certificates Best five students namely Abhishek Guhathakurta, Alok
Rawat, Amit Bakshi, Chitransh Mathur and Savithri Varada based on their
overall performances in the programme were awarded with “Star Achiever
Trophy” and Certificates followed by highly motivational and concluding
