Community Profile
The Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce is
proud to present its 2013 Community Profile and Membership Directory. Our community is comprised of two
cities, Waynesville and St. Robert, and the surrounding
rural areas. The combined estimated population of the
cities was approximately 9,000 at the end of 2011; Fort
Leonard Wood which is contiguous to the Cities has a
day time population of approximately 40,000. Fort Leonard Wood is a Department of Defense installation and is
the home of the Engineer, Military Police, and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear schools and provides training for all branches of the Armed
Services. We are truly blessed to have the best of both worlds--a rural lifestyle
with the benefits of larger cities.
Waynesville and St. Robert are bisected by Interstate 44, which provides access to Fort Leonard Wood and the Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport.
Commercial air travel is available with daily flights. The airport is also expanding to provide sixteen hangars for private and corporate aircraft.
Our community enjoys the benefit of one of the finest school systems in the
state. The Waynesville R-VI school system operates six elementary schools
(one in St. Robert, one in Waynesville and four on Fort Leonard Wood), one
middle school, one sixth grade center, and one high school, plus a career
center. The area also has a multitude of higher and continuing education opportunities.
While many cities have seen a reduction in growth, our community had steady
residential and commercial growth over the last two years. Our area also
enjoys a steady increase in sales tax revenue. Commercial growth continues
to be strong with new developments and businesses. Our area businesses include several national franchises, but our true treasures are the family-owned
businesses that provide personal service and great products at a great value.

Wood have a lot to offer. St. Robert
and Waynesville both have rich
histories featuring Historic Route 66,
The Trail of Tears and the Civil War.
There are 33 original miles
of Route 66 in Pulaski County. The
stretch is lush with brilliant scenery
and breathtaking landscapes with
valleys cut through limestone and
dolomite rock. This route holds
particular appeal for modern day
travelers as they wind along the
historic road. Still visible along the
Pulaski County Visitor Center
route is the historic Hooker Church
and Graveyard, which dates back to
the early 1900’s. Travelers through
Hooker Cut take in the popular
postcard landscape that was once
rumored to be the deepest road cut in
America and see the layers of limestone that had to be overcome to build
the road. The Tourism Bureau offers
a self-guided driving tour of Historic
Route 66 available at the Visitor
Center or as an audio download from
the tourism website.

The John B. Mahaffey Museum
Complex, named after the Civilian to
the Secretary of the Army, houses the
rich history and contributions of the
Military Police, Army Engineers and
Fort Leonard Wood Piney Valley Golf Course
Chemical, Biological, Radiological,
and Nuclear units during the conflicts
dating from the Revolutionary War
to present conflicts. The museum
complex is also adjacent to the WWII
Army Complex museum replicating
Fort Leonard Wood as it was in the
1940’s. An outdoor walking tour of
Fort Leonard Wood Museum

Cave, open to the public, is located on

The pristine waterways of
the Gasconade and Big Piney rivers
entice visitors to swim, float, fish and

Gasconade, with nearly 30
miles of prime water species
to test the limits of your tackle.
An area of Big Piney has been
designated a small-mouth bass
trophy area. The two rivers
wind their way through a variety
of geographical formations,

The Chamber of Commerce hosts many community and fundraising events throughout
the year. We are always looking for new and fun ways to raise funding for our activities.
Community Leadership Awards Banquet. This exciting event recognizes and honors all of our community
leaders. The Chamber will pay tribute to an organization
and volunteer that has shown outstanding support to the
Chamber. The distinguished award for the evening is the
Citizen of the Year.
The Polar Meltdown Chili Cook-off will warm you up
on a cold winter’s day. Businesses, Organizations
and Individuals can enter their teams to compete for
the Best Chili in Pulaski County.
At the Taste of Pulaski County & Basket Auction area restaurants provide samplings from their menus to be enjoyed by
the attendees. Businesses donate baskets of goodies or gift
