In a recent sermon I said that God is calling us to do something new every
single day. We had read of Jesus’ call of Peter, Andrew, James, and John to leave
their current occupation of fishing to follow him and to be his disciples (Matthew
4:18-22). My preaching point was to say that our Lord continues to call each of us
to follow him each day and the call will be to do something new. It will be to do
something new, to think something new, to believe something new, or even
indeed to be something new.
In the verse preceding the call of these first four fisherman followers it is
written that Jesus began to proclaim “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come
near” (4:17). Matthew was writing that this was the essence of Jesus’ message. It
was the essence of his mission. He was inaugurating a new world, a new reality, a
new era.
Jesus started something new in his life and sealed this new creation
through his death and resurrection. He accelerated God’s work of creating a new
world. Jesus brought into being the reign of God upon earth and the expansion of
this reign on earth is ongoing. He is making all things new (Revelation 21:5).
God’s program of making things new is most strategically directed at you
and me. He is moving in the hearts and minds of people to make all things new. If
his program of making all things new is ongoing then each day brings
opportunities for a new world, a new life for you and for me! Isn’t that exciting?
Our God is making progress all of the time. It may not be very obvious at times
but by faith we see and believe.
Life takes on a whole new complexion when we seek each and everyday to
enter into a new existence through what the Lord Jesus has done and is doing. At
the dawn of a new year live into the reality of the kingdom of heaven which
means change for all of us each and every day. This is in large part exactly what it
means to “repent.” It means to turn, to change. What will be new with you today?
I look forward to hearing some testimonials!

1. Gift cards for various restaurants, retail stores and

That’s the only way our church benefits!

ARE YOU PREPARED?
PREPARED FOR WHAT?
THE SECOND COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.
Jesus said, “Behold, I am coming soon. My reward is with Me, and I will give to everyone
according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the
Beginning and the End” (Revelation 10:12&13).
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN HE IS COMING?
When will the things described in Matthew 24 and Luke 21 happen?
What will be the sign that these things are about to take place?
You will not. That is why you need to be prepared.
“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will
come at an hour when you do not expect Him” (Luke 12:40).
Jesus said, “Watch out that you are not deceived—for many, will, come in My name, claiming,
‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near’. “Do not follow them.” (Luke 21:8)
At the time if anyone says to you, “Look, here is the Christ!” or “there he is” do not believe it. For
false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive
even the elect (the Christians) –if that were possible (Matthew 24:24).
No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the
Father (Luke 21:36).
How can I prepare for this great event?
1.Pray that the Lord will give you the Spirit of discernment and show you when you are
being deceived.
2.Read your Bible. If you know what the Bible teaches it would be difficult for you to be
deceived.
3.Read the parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25. Five of them were foolish and five
were wise. Therefore, the foolish missed the bridegroom when He came. Will you be
ready to meet Him? We all want to see the bridegroom (Jesus Christ) when He returns.
Know for sure that you are going to heaven. Is it possible? Yes!
BE WATCHFUL! HE COULD COME TODAY!

cont’d from previous page Prayer Ministry...
There are a number of ways here at APC that you can engage others to join you in praying for a
friend, a relative, a situation or for yourself. We have:
(a) Electronic Prayer Chain. You can E-mail Min Pusey and she will activate the chain which
includes many of our church members. Her e-mail address is: [email protected] . Her phone
number is610-869-9464.
(b) Telephone Prayer Chain. You can call Barbara Rosazza at 610-268-2322 and she sends it out.
(c) Fill out a blue Prayer Card, found in the pews, and place in the basket outside the Sanctuary.
The prayers on the blue cards are prayed over every Tuesday evening at the Praise and Prayer
Service.
(d) I (Marge Pickel) prepare a weekly Prayer Insert in which all requests are listed. They will
remain on the list for TWO WEEKS. If you want them to remain on the list a while longer, ask Min,
Barbara or myself. Update your requests. People praying want to know what happened as a result of
prayer. Answers to prayers are crucial to the Prayer Ministry.
REMEMBER, PRAYER IS THE POWER OF GOD AND IS NEEDED IN EVERY MINISTRY AT

The Musician’s Corner
February, 2011
Greetings, Everyone! Well we are now into the NEW year!
What a blessing the year’s end was. So many things to be very thankful for too. It was
great to experience the ending last December with our wonderful Christmas Concert in
the Great Hall. What a wonderful presentation from our Church Musical family. We had a wonderful turn out
of folks from all over the Delaware Valley attending.
Thanks to all of our fantastic APC church family who stepped up to the plate to make it all come
together. Our very own Joyce Swisher and all of those who assisted her in providing the best spread of goodies
for our Concert. Thank you Joyce for all of your help in rounding up a great offering of food for all of us for
after the concert. It was to be one of the most memorable spreads we have had. Everyone was pleasantly
surprised at the way it was all prepared.
The Music presentation from our Music Dept. was top notch in every way. The Choir was right on top
with their welcomed presentation of blest musical selections for the Christmas season along with the bell
choirs helping to literally “Ring” in the announcement of Christ’s birthday! The instrumental ensemble, of
course, was right there as well, offering their special giftings too. Everyone is to be commended for all of their
efforts. Our guests and Church family are still talking about it all. We all helped to give the community a
special gift of music and fellowship we all can be very proud of.
Now as the new year is in full swing, our music department will continue to bring us an uplifting array
of music each week which we all will be able to be an acting part in as we share together the blessing of
praise and worship during our services.
Thanks very much everyone once again for all of your giftings and talents on every level. Let us all
look forward to a great year in 2011 as we, His church in Avondale continue to seek daily what God has in
store for us all to enjoy! He is a great God and we are His Kingdom Kids!
May we all strive to seek His will for us, individually and corporately as a church body, and seek what
He has in store for us.
Blessings to us all as we move higher in Him this year.
Because He has called us!
Wayne H. Carr,
Organist/Director of Choral and Instrumental Music APC
Thought: “Trust Him fully to take you places you have never even dreamed of!” He knows
the future for us all, and will lead us as we trust Him and follow His leading for our lives.

“MINISTER OF THE MONTH”
MARISA TRANCHITELLA
“ENCOURAGE
ONE ANOTHER ALL THE MORE AS YOU SEE THE
DAY
APPROACHING”
Marisa is a 7th grade student at the Fred S. Engle Middle School (Avon Grove School
District) and the daughter of Lou and Nicole Tranchitella. She has a younger brother Louie and
younger sister Gia. Marisa took a giant step when she decided to respond to an invitation from the
Youth Group leadership this past fall as to whether any of the kids had any ideas for the
Christmas Eve program. The Youth Group usually takes over the leadership of this early
Christmas Eve service. She stunned the combined leadership when she offered to write, direct,
and act in a drama. Marisa did a beautiful job of presenting a powerful message and she should
be commended for her efforts! She lived out an example of what the Apostle Paul proclaimed, “I
can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Currently she is
co-directing the Middle School play. Marisa’s other interests include playing the flute in the school
band, playing softball, horseback riding, reading, and soccer. She is also part of the Crossing
Boundaries program in school. Her favorite activity, though, is APC youth group!

The Session of Elders is interested in starting some kind of
after-school program which would especially benefit the children
and youth of Avondale Borough. All who are interested in helping in the initial stages of conception,
development, and/or beyond are asked to indicate their interest to Elder Phil Hertzog or Pastor Ray
Meute. Our Leadership Summit for 2011 will be held early in the New Year and will be devoted to

KID’S PRAYER MINISTRY
Parents, encourage your children to go to the Prayer Room for Kids in the
Quarry, the first Sunday of each month after the 11 am service. Julie Swisher
and Angela Rupard have faithfully been waiting for kids to come and be
prayed for.
We need to teach our kids about the power of prayer and pray that God will
give them a heart for prayer. Kids age three are not too young to understand
prayer.
As adults, we look to God to sustain us in our good and in our troubled times.
We need to teach our kids young and old the value of knowing of God’s love
and that He is always there for us. We just need to call His name.
Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the
rock from which you were cut and to the
quarry from which you were hewn.
Isaiah 51:1
We invite all 6th – 12th graders to join us
Sunday nights from 6 – 8:30 pm
for fun and fellowship.
Dinner is provided at 6:00 pm.
Please sign up to provide a dinner for the Youth Group.

The Deacon’s Corner
February
By Barbara Hart

In Zechariah chapter 10, verse 4 a question is asked: “Who despises the day of small
things? “ Some, at that time, thought that the work on the temple was insignificant. In a resource
guide for the women’s study of Revelation they use this verse to talk about doing “small things.”
The guide says “What small things can you do to serve the Lord? Ideas include visiting a neighbor
who is lonely, playing with blocks with your child or grandchild, or helping pull weeds in the garden
at your church. Write down one such action you could take to serve the Lord.” Again, as a
reminder we are all deacons, helping others. What may seem like a "small thing" to us could mean
a great deal to others.
Family Promises is a program in New Castle
County, Delaware that provides food and shelter for
homeless families. There are thirteen churches in the area
participating in the program. Grace Lutheran Church in
Hockessin is one of these churches.
Avondale Presbyterian church has agreed to be a support church
for them. During the two weeks starting January 30, Grace Lutheran will host
the families. This involves providing evening meals for the families and
transportation to and from the Family Promise House in Newark. The evening
meal is usually served about 6:30. Meals can be prepared in your own home
and heated, if necessary, at the church. Usually, those providing the meals eat
with the families. Except for the first Sunday, the families help with the clean-up.
Family Promises has a 14- passenger van. Providing transportation would involve using the van to take the families to and from the family promise house.
If you are interested in helping either with meals or transportation, please
send an e-mail to the church office. Thank you in advance for your help. Go to
their website to read more about how to be involved.

Y THIS IS AN OPEN INVITATION TO ALL CONGREGATION MEMBERS Y
CONGREGATIONAL LIFE MINISTRY TEAM will be meeting Monday, January 31st at 7:00 in
Room 102. This meeting will be to plan new events for the year 2011. We would like to have anyone
attend who would like to be a part of planning events that include church families as well as events that
would include the entire neighboring communities.
In 2010 we have had church picnics, trip to Blue Rocks Baseball Game, attended Sight & Sound
Theater in Lancaster to see the production "Joseph, have sponsored dinners for Maundy Thursday,
opened our doors and served luncheon to area Presbyterian Women's Group and many other social
events.
One of the largest events we plan for the year is the Christmas Bazaar which is held in
November. This show brought in a record number of community members this year and enabled us to
contribute approximately $6,500.00 to the Mortgage Reduction Fund. The coming year will be our Fourth
year and we will be planning the date and forming new committees for2011.
The team has joined with the Women's Association to work with them for the Spring and Fall
Rummage Sale and the Soup, Cheese and Bake Sale, as well as the Avondale Fall Festival. The
AVONDALE PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION consists of three circles of women who meet
monthly for a bible study and social time. Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening meetings are open to all
women who would like to join. These circles support special ministries around the area and around the
world.
Our MUSIC DEPARTMENT presented their annual Christmas Concert to a fantastic turnout of
people from both the congregation and neighboring communities; The Grove City Chorus brought
accolades from the audience in the Spring and the Russian Quartet in the fall had a great turnout. The
Choir meets Thursday Evenings and is always glad to be joined by those who want to sing for the glory
of our Lord. Peggy Watkins leads bell players of all ages to give us beautiful music. She organizes and
presents a combined BELL CONCERT with surrounding church's bell choirs performing in our Great Hall
each year.
Our YOUTH GROUP has an active membership and is headed up by Tim and Carrie Rupard,
Danny Rosazza and their group. They are constantly on the move from their outreach of helping others on
mission trips, to swim parties and skiing trips. The Youth Group meets Sunday Nights at the church for
dinners, worship and fun.
Marci Mebane and her wonderful team put together a Vacation Bible School Program that has
no equal. The excitement and awe of the children who attend is an inspiration and our hope for the
future. We are fortunate to have great music, snacks and especially our talented actors (Pastor Ray, Dave
Schramm and others) who present the bible stories in such memorable ways.
We are an active church and hope to constantly reach out to make our church a welcoming
"beacon" for all people and all ages. Please plan to join us with your ideas and thoughts for activities for
the coming year. It is exciting to be a part of these wonderful times shared by our church family.
