Elgar’s “Enigma” Variations are full of personal secrets and codes, and each
variation is dedicated to one of his close friends. Learn the secrets behind
this masterpiece, with noted Elgar interpreter James Judd.

Richard Strauss wrote the epic, bombastic tone-poem Ein Heldenleben
(“A Hero’s Life”) about ... himself. It includes a battle with music critics,
“works of peace” (all of his other tone-poems), and an unforgettable girlfriend
played by the solo violin. Was Strauss really a hero? That’s debatable. Join
us as we examine one of the greatest musical egos in history.

we celebrate the end of summer with a bang. The Proms is an eight-week
summer season of daily orchestral music concerts held annually in central

The KWS Youth Orchestra Program has a 40 year tradition of music education
and outreach in the KW region and beyond. Our intensive Orchestral Training
Program offers instruction and inspiration for young musicians from early
ages through high school and university level, on all instruments of the
contemporary symphony orchestra.

the Youth Orchestra share the stage with our KWS mentors in side-by-side
concerts, including: Last Night of the Proms on September 28 & 29 and
Signature with Ian Parker January 25 & 26 at Centre In The Square.
Combining a passion for music with fun and friendship, the Youth Orchestra
Program trains future instrumentalists, music lovers and audience members!

A tailored course of study to educate participants at seniors’ homes and recreation centres.

Over 100 young people participate in four orchestral ensembles. See page 17 for more
information on the program.
Outreach Activities
KWS musicians often perform at seniors’ homes, soup kitchens, recreation centres,
and many other local facilities, in an effort to bring orchestral music to the community.
Tickets for Persons with Special Needs
Corporate and individual donors can purchase large blocks of tickets for donation to
members of community service organizations. Special wheelchair seating is also available
as well as discount for Canadian National Institute for the Blind members. Please call the
box office to inquire.
