The new dot peen marking gun:
the e-mark XL
The e-mark XL marking system performs the marking of
parts by using electromagnetic dot peen. This portable
machine has the ability to be totally autonomous thanks
to its integrated battery. It is perfect for identification
of heavy, large and difficult-to-access parts. Robust
and reliable, you will enjoy the e-mark XL for its
flexibility, ergonomic aspect and its mobility thanks
to its reduced dimensions. Its mechanical precision
allows excellent quality of marking, as for Data matrix
and logo marking. Its marking window (120 x 40 mm)
is perfect for characters of important height.
Its integrated software shows many different functions
and enables the creation and the modification of
marking programs directly on the machine. The
advantage of a large screen and an integrated industrial
keyboard makes programming easy for everybody. It
has been designed with a high reduction of the overall
dimensions and weight.
The e-mark XL gun marks all type of materials,
from plastic to hardened steel up to 62HRC. The
electromagnetic stylus accepts a variety of shapes
and surfaces (flat surface, concave, convex, circular,
rough, machined...).

Optional fieldbus cards:
Ethernet TCP, Ethernet IP,
Profinet & Profibus
Marking machines can be connected to industrial
networks without any additional equipment thanks to
the communication protocols, Ethernet/TCP, EtherNet/
IP, Profibus or Profinet. Already equipped with full
connectivity, our systems provide many opportunities to
interact with all the elements that set up their environment.
They can be integrated and interfaced very
easily on all production
lines.
Direct connection
to the industrial
network without
use of gateway
provides a
considerable
time saving. It
also reduces
the cost of
engineering
and of
commissioning. n

turbochargers
in five years »
The turbocharger market, A Growing Market.
Vehicle manufacturers are adding turbochargers at a double-digit rate.
Over the next 5 years, the turbo market is expected to grow to more
than 8 million turbocharged vehicles.
Experts predict that soon, around 50 per
cent of the European cars driven by spark
ignition engines will be supercharged by
turbochargers. The desire for environmentally
safer engines are accelerating the widespread use of turbochargers. The possibilities
of building smaller and lighter engines, while
maintaining maximum power, have been far
from exhausted. n
Most people associate turbo engines with
high horsepower sports cars. However, the
future development of car engines depends
heavily on turbochargers. They are essentially
supercharging systems that efficiently burn
fuel in a piston chamber by pumping large
amounts of compressed air to the engine. As
such, they are now attracting keen attention as
formidable responses to current economic and
environmental issues because of the increased
engine power, improved fuel consumption and
reduced emissions that they are capable of
delivering in downsized engines.
The current trend towards engine downsizing
means the global market for turbochargers,
both diesel and petrol, is increasing. The
need to continually meet the latest emission
standards (euro 6) by improving fuel economy
is also driving this growth.
Downsized turbocharged engines are a «no compromise solution» for
automakers seeking to satisfy more stringent global fuel economy and
emission regulations and customer demand for better-performing vehicles.

The
automotive
industry
is
facing
stricter
environmental
regulations.
For
example, it is generally
believed that passenger
cars not fitted with a
turbocharger will fail
to meet the European
emissions standard (Euro 6) for diesel vehicles that
have been implemented in 2015. Turbochargers
can only benefit from this backdrop of tightening
regulations.
The Euro 6 standard imposes a further, significant
reduction in NOx emissions from diesel engines (a
67% reduction compared to Euro 5) and establishes
similar standards for petrol and diesel. As for the
US, President Obama announced an agreement
with thirteen large automakers to increase fuel
economy for cars and light-duty trucks by model
year 2025. He was joined by Ford, GM, Chrysler,
BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar/Land Rover, Kia,
Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota, and Volvo—
which together account for over 90% of all vehicles
sold in the United States. Turbochargers, eightspeed transmissions and low rolling-resistance
tires will be included on most US vehicles in 2025,
the year automakers will have to meet the CAFE
standard of 54.5 miles per gallon in the US.
Numerous companies such as, Honeywell Garrett,
CCN, Sicta, Maike Automotive or Streit have
already placed their trust in SIC Marking for quality
marking solutions. They rely on our integrated dotpeen systems, and lasers for their reliability and
efficiency. n

For VIN marking,
SIC Marking is:
First in Europe
&
among the
Worldwide
Leaders
VIN (Vehicule Identification Number).
SIC Marking develops, manufactures and installs VIN marking
turnkey solutions, for a large majority of automotive manufacturers
worldwide. We have worked for fifteen years with Alfa Romeo, Aston
Martin, Audi, Ferrari, Fiat, Maserati, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot,
Renault, Volkswagen, & Volvo plants...
VIN code, password control of the operator,
current VIN reading, etc.) can be performed
without a PC directly via the controller and
this in 17 languages. Marking machines can
be connected to industrial network without
any additional equipment using different
communication protocols: RS232, RS422,
Ethernet, Profibus or Profinet. SIC Marking
also provides an optional character recognition
system controlled by the SIC Vision software,
and different depth monitoring systems.
The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is
a number that has 17 characters and is
engraved on the chassis of each vehicle. This
is a global standard that all car manufacturers
must meet. If the VIN number is not marked
properly, it generates systematically line stop.
To have the right to sell the vehicle, the VIN
number must always be legible and match the
registration document.
SIC Marking has strengthened its leadership
position by providing its customers with
marking and traceability solutions for specific
needs and requirements of the automotive
industry professionals. n
Dedicated project teams offer solutions
adapted to each constraint. For this, they
carry out feasibility studies in mechanics,
automation, industrial IT and vision. SIC
Marking also provides a personalized follow-up
for every VIN project with the installation and
commissioning of systems, and the training of
production and maintenance employees (in
French, English, German and Spanish).
SIC Marking offers manufacturers and their
integrators two types of VIN systems. It is
either a 100% robotic and automated systems
or 100% autonomous manual systems. We
have over 100 VIN installations worldwide
among major car manufacturers.
Our VIN marking systems consist of a standard
i113s marking head and a pneumatic clamping
system that absorbs scratching efforts. This
equipment is reliable and robust, it requires
low maintenance costs. In addition, the
marking speed is high, from 16 to 21 seconds
for the marking of 17 characters and 2 logos.
More than 30 000 SIC Marking machines work
in the world with our e10 controller. All tasks
