Friday night is country
music night at Lapeer Days
LAPEER — The annual Lapeer Days Festival is
this week, and country music fans should be
excited for the entertainment line-up on the first
night of the festival. Friday night’s headliner will
be county music star Jo Dee Messina, who will
perform on main stage at 10:30 p.m.
For country music fans in the area, this may
be the best free concert of the season. Jo Dee
Messina has sold over five million albums, had
nine No. 1 singles, earned two Grammy nominations in addition to awards by the CMA and
ACM.
Jo Dee gained national attention with “Heads
Carolina, Tails California” and “You’re Not In
Kansas Anymore.” Her follow-up album, I’m
Alright, exploded with its back-to-back chart-toppers “Bye Bye” (ASCAP’s Song of the Year), “I’m
Alright” and “Stand Beside Me.” Jo Dee won the
ACM’s Top New Female Vocalist award, the CMA
Horizon award and the nod for Most Played
Country Female of 1999 from Billboard. This will
be one of the festivals most exciting and memorable country music performances, said the festival committee.
Lee Crites will perform a Tim McGraw
tribute show on the main stage Friday
night at 8 p.m. to open for Jo Dee
Messina. Lee started his road tours in
2008 with the Lapeer Days Festival
where he performed his Tim
McGraw tribute to an enthusiastic
crowd. Crites is from Grand Rapids
and started performing country
music in 2004 at a singing competition when the crowd told him how
much he looked like Tim McGraw. Lee
started learning McGraw’s songs and soon
won a celebrity look-alike competition.
Brian Lorente and the Usual Suspects
will return to main stage on Friday at 6 p.m.,
bringing their high energy country music to
Lapeer. Brian Lorente and the Usual
Suspects teamed up six years ago with a
common desire to produce a contemporary
country rock sound. The band is enjoying
regional success with the release of their
newest album, 2:45.
