ince Artmax’s inception in 1990, the company’s has sought to bring the
home furnishings industry one of America’s largest and most distinctive
collections of furniture, lighting, wall art and decorative accessories. The
company’s exclusive team of designers, led by Richard Chan, has incorporated
a vast perception of design and themes from traditional, transitional and
contemporary style categories. These different elements combine to create
a unique look and style that sets the Artmax line apart from other furniture
designers and manufacturers. With accent furniture as its nucleus, the
company showcases sleek design, intriguing shapes and ultra-stylized form.
Here, co-founder Chan outlines the special attributes that have made his
Chicago-based firm a leader in trendsetting design.
Please describe some of the special
characteristics of your accent furniture.
All of our pieces are handcrafted and hand
painted, incorporating meticulous techniques
on our primary media of wood, metal and resin.
Some of our pieces include gold and
silver leaf details, mirrored doors,
mirror tiles, painted glass, faux
earthy finishes, textured surfaces
and other finishing elements. Artmax
continues to introduce new product
every three months. In total,
we feature 800 SKUs in accent
furniture, all of which coordinate
with our wall art and decorative
accessories. We continue to see
strong interest among all channels
of distribution. By designing items
that create an interest in mind,
we always explore interesting and intriguing new
combinations. By marrying different media with
special finishes, the possibilities are endless.
What have been your bestselling accent
furniture pieces?
It has definitely been
our medium-sized, four
door cabinets. People
enjoy the look with the
greatest attention to
detail, and at the same
time, the functionality of
these beautiful pieces of
art.
We also take pride in supporting our dealer
network with a high level of customer service. We
consider ourselves a friendly company that will
work with any customer – no matter their size –
and service them with accurate product images,
item descriptions and even product videos. This
gives the buyers a great idea of what our product
really looks like, and makes it easier for them to
do business with Artmax.
Throughout our accent
furniture offerings,
we are featuring some
brighter colors, more
detailing and greater use of
metallic tones this year.
From a marketing standpoint, is there anything
the company is doing differently this year?
Why do customers
like doing business

It certainly starts with our
exceptional quality and
design excellence. In
developing my designs,
I always consider how
customers are going to
use a particular product
in their home, and
constantly seek to add-on
to the piece. For example, we include painted
glass or special finish mirrors to protect the
surfaces which also ensures a longer life for the
item.
We have just published a brand new catalog, and
our website is undergoing major improvements.
Again, everything we do is designed to make it
easier for our valued customers.
What’s ahead for Artmax as it nears its
milestone 25th anniversary?
Moving forward, we will introduce more
products in the categories of furniture, wall art
and accessories than ever before. There’s been
strong demand for our furniture, and customers
are always looking for coordinating items to
really complete their presentations. We want
