Talk Guide To “The Radio Show”
In times of tight budgets the question, “to go or not to go” gets asked
more than ever when it comes to attending industry conventions and
conferences. The costs for airfares, hotel rooms and meals on the road
have been increasingly reduced, or even eliminated in many budgets as
managers look to cut costs to increase the bottom line wherever they
can. That “T&E” line item in the budget always sticks out and is a
tempting target when the money squeeze is on, especially in the final
quarter of most stations’ year.
That said, this week I want to make the case that the 2012 NAB/RAB
Radio Show is still the one industry-wide convention that’s worth
attending by News/Talk/Sports broadcasters. There’s good reason for
getting a whole slew of radio broadcasters, vendors, bankers, talents,
GM’s, PD’s, sellers, engineers, technology and digital media specialists
all together in one place to talk about our business, from the good, to
the bad and the ugly. Frankly, even if your company won’t pay for you
to go, I’ve long believed it’s worth your own dime to seek out those
sessions and speakers that you can learn from and to network with both
those who you can help, along with those who can help you.
That’s why I am suggesting that you should make plans to head to
Dallas next month (September 19-21), if you’ve not already done
so, to take advantage of this annual opportunity to communicate and
commiserate with your fellow radio broadcasters. To help you wade
through the myriad of program options on this year’s NAB/RAB Radio
Show agenda, this week we offer a ‘guide’ for News, Talk and Sports radio
broadcasters about sessions, speakers and events that look promising and
of particular interest for Talk media professionals. Check your official
Radio Show program for times and location of all sessions noted. Also,
a quick disclaimer: All recommended sessions are solely the opinion of
your editor who has received no compensation or lobbying by any of the
participants, nor from anyone at the NAB or RAB, the producers of the
Radio Show.

produced Talk create a sales-friendly, non-controversial environment? On
which platforms, beyond their radio, do audiences expect to find content?
The promise for this session, that is also scheduled to include Salem
