OVERVIEW

Dorm
Life
Living in VGU Dorm is quite similar to living
in a normal flat or apartment, because that
is the exact intention of the company that
built these living quarters. They are meant
for inhabitants, not only students, to live and
prosper. The normal traits usually found in a
dormitory built for students such as cramped
space, public bathrooms, poor facilities,
cramming problems (up to 8 persons per
room, usually leads to little-to-no privacy)
do not generally exist in VGU Dormitories.
room
number
The number of a room is its a
unique address, pinpointing
exactly where the room is. On
the door of each room hangs a
title card stating room number,
so navigating won’t be that hard
(we hope!).

TURTLE
RIDE
The price per student usually fluctuates between 2.4-2.9 million
VND, depending on the number of students registered for the
service and naturally, the price announced by the third-party bus
leasing company. VGU offers students the service wholly nonprofit and does not collect any intermediary fees. Should there
exist any surplus amount of money at the end of each semester,
students will be notified by means of a detailed financial report
and later returned the excess amount.

All students will be randomly
assigned. In special cases,
upon dear request from a
student’s family, he or she
might be permitted to share a
room with his or her friend(s).
To do this, he or she must contact a dorm assistant and fill
in the “Application for priority over dorm arrangement”.
Dormitory contracts expire
after one year and need to
be renewed every year in
September. After freshman
year, students can ask to be
placed into another room
using the form above.

For the first few months of being a VGU student, internet was
taken away from me. At first, it was like a nightmare
but gradually, I realize it was not that bad. Without
internet, I had to find alternative ways to go about
life here. I became more active physically and
participated in clubs. These are the things I would
not have done if internet was available in dormitory

An electricity monitor is installed outside
each room and will measure the energy
consumption of each room. At the end of
each month, a notice stating each room’s
electricity fee is posted on a board on the
ground floor. The price is currently 2,689
per kWh.
Water consumption fee is already included
in each month’s rent.

HEALTHCARE
You should always have some general drugs (such as cold cures,
painkillers, cough suppressants, antipyretics, antibiotics, antidiarrheals
and vitamins) on hand and your own ailment-specific drugs, if any, in
your pocket.
• On campus: contact Ms.
Hoa (VGU’s physician)
at room A207 for quick
checks and medicine.
• At dorm: first-aid kits are
readily available under the
security desk in each block.
• Pharmacies: There are
small pharmacies along
Tran Quoc Toan St. (in Phu
Chanh A Market)
Security
During the day
Security guards are present 24/7 in all
blocks without fail. There is one guard
safeguarding each block and the guards
take turns (changing blocks) every few
days. During the day, they will be your
(motor)bikes’ keepers (free of charge).
At night
At 23:00, the guards will bar and lock
the huge iron sliding doors and spend
the night in the common area (ground
floor). Since he won’t be watching over
the street right in front of the block, you
should lock your back door at night for
your own safety.
In case of visitors
Visitors in this case can be students’ family members,
relatives, friends or fellow students.
• During the day, visitors must leave their citizenship ID
cards and signatures at the security desk before they can
pay a visit to the students.
• Visitors are strictly not allowed to spend the night in
dorm rooms.
• After 23:00, students are not permitted to stay any
longer in the block that he or she doesn’t belong to and is
required to return to their own dorm room.
Bonus: Binh Duong’s planned power outages schedule (our area
is known as ‘Thu Dau Mot’): goo.gl/scDpKv
In case problems arise
Common facility problems among VGU students are low
water pressure (sometimes none), water leakage and blackouts. When these or the likes happen, don’t wait for help
passively (aka do nothing), call for help (security guards, Mr.
Vu Tien Nhat) at once.
If you need technical assistance, don’t hesitate to hail the
security guard and ask for his help. And immediately, give
Mr. Vu Tien Nhat a call. Mr. Nhat will come directly to your
room and see to the problem(s).
