From the Principal’s Desk

As we enter 2012, I first want to wish the
entire West Dover community a happy and
healthy New Year. 2011 flew by and the
New Year promises to be a very busy year
for our staff and students. There will be
many exciting educational and entertaining
activities for all of the children. Just some
of the many activities include: Field Trips,
Assemblies, Band, Orchestra, and Chorus
concerts, Star Student Lunches, and
NJASK testing. I encourage you to take
advantage of the many night-time
educational activities planned for the
upcoming year.
After a concerted fund-raising effort by our
fantastic PTO, your children will soon be
playing on a state-of-the-art, brand new
playground! Thank you for all of your
support in the last year in all of the
fundraising efforts for this piece. It looks
awesome and the students will surely enjoy
it! Also, a huge thank you to to our
teachers who generously donated their
allotment from their Teachers Grant.

Welcome back, I hope that everyone had a
nice holiday break with their family.
Please take the time to review the pick-up
and drop-off procedures with your child.
Automobile
Morning Arrival – Please plan to arrive no
earlier than 9:10 a.m. If your child is
brought to school by car, please discharge
the child at the front entrance by the cones.
Your child will then proceed to the
appropriate door… and await the opening
school bell. THERE IS NO PARKING AT
THE
STUDENT
DROP-OFF
ZONE
(YELLOW CURB) DURING THE SCHOOL
DAY. PLEASE FORM A SINGLE ROW OF
CARS FOR DROP-OFF.
Arrival/Departure parking – Parents who
park on the far side of the circle are
expected to walk to the sidewalk and
escort their children across the top of the
circle at the yellow crosswalk only.
Please be considerate of our neighbors and
their property.
Marine Pilot Robert Spadaro, FDNY, talked to
first grade students about the career of a fire
fighter.
Afternoon Departure – Park along the
circle and on Blue Jay Drive. DO NOT
PARK ALONG YELLOW CURB AREAS.

Our Holiday Concert, led by
Mrs. Julia Joynt,
featured singing by our
3rd, 4th and 5th grade
chorus members.
A guest of honor was Master
Sergeant Anthony Correia,
husband of Third Grade Teacher
Christine Correa. He recently
returned from Iraq.
A classroom writing assignment
turned into a tribute to a dad. The
assignment was to describe a
moment you had with someone.
Haley chose to write about her dad
who served our country in Iraq.
Food Drive Friday

the container located in the
main office. There will be a
drawing for a gift certificate at
the end of every month.

Girl Scout Troop 382 is collecting
empty glue bottles for
recycling. There is a
collection box in the front
hallway of the school.
West Dover supports The
Ronald McDonald House In
Long Branch, NJ by collecting
Pull Tabs to benefit the
residents. Please put them in
the container in the front
hallway. Thank you!
Girl Scout Troop 401 is collecting
printer ink cartridges, cell phones,
MP3 players and laptop computers.
There is a collection box in the
main hallway.
Blue Jean Days
Have you noticed our faculty and staff wearing blue jeans? Every
month our faculty and staff participate in a Jeans Day. We get the
privilege of wearing jeans when we donate money to different
causes. One of our favorite causes is the West Dover Scholarship
Fund. The Scholarships are awarded to graduating High School
seniors who have attended West Dover. Other charities have
included Toys for Tots, Breast Cancer, ALS and the American
Heart Association.
Star Students of the Month
During Native American Heritage Month, first grade parent
Mrs. Sieke described her Osage heritage to her daughter’s
class. She shared family photographs, artifacts and clothing.
Her daughter modeled the clothing including moccasins that
her mother made for her.
