DECORATING
YOUR TREE
PRICE
How much are you willing to spend
on an Christmas tree? While you
don’t want to spend too much,
you do want your money’s worth
and you want a tree that will last
for many years. Also take into
consideration how many lights
and decorations you will need to
purchase to fill this tree.
SIZE
Decide where you will display
your tree and measure the
height of the ceiling; keep in
mind that you will need to
allow space for a tree topper.

Using the
guidelines
enclosed in your
Christmas tree package, start
shaping the tree beginning
with the bottom branches and
working from the trunk of the
tree. Separate the branch tips to
form a v shape, then alternate
angling the tips upwards and
downwards slightly.
Up and down Method
Starting at the bottom of the
tree, weave the lights between
the branches up to the top of
the tree then work your way
back down the tree in the same
manner. Repeat this process
moving around the tree.

Trees with a higher
number of tips and
branches will look
more fuller and
realistic.
Once you have reached the top
of the tree step back and look at
the tree from a distance to see if
any areas need further shaping
or gaps that need to be filled.

THE SPIRAL METHOD
Starting at the bottom of the
tree close to the trunk, separate
the cord near the first bulb so it
forms a loop and slip the loop
over one of the greens near the
trunk to anchor. Pull the string
of lights along the length of the
branch to the tip, then wrap
the lights around the branch
back to the trunk. Repeat this
process with each branch. As
you approach the top of the tree
space the bulbs further apart so
the tree looks more evenly lit.

Using the guidelines
Unpack your lights and lay them flat on
the floor then plug them into the
wall socket to check that the
lights are working and that the
cords are not damaged. If your
lights have replaceable globes,
replace them before putting on
the tree.

Put tinsel on your tree
by starting at the
top of the tree
working your way around to the
bottom tucking the the tinsel into
the branches.

Showcase your favourite and special
ornaments by
placing them on the tree first in
prime positions. Start hanging
other decorations on the tree
beginning with the larger
ornaments first, then use the
smaller ornaments to fill gaps.
Take a step back from your
tree regularly to check that
decorations are evenly spaced
and to identify any gaps to be
filled.

Place the wrapping
paper face-down on
the table and centre your gift on
it, bottom up.
Turn your wrapped package
right-side-up and centre the
unwound length of ribbon across
the top, then wrap the ribbon
around the package lengthwise
and twist it in the centre
underneath the box.
Bring both sides of the paper
around the sides of the gift and
over the top so that one side
overlaps the other by a couple of
centre meters.
Bring the ends back up around
the sides of the box and tie the
ribbon once in the centre, then
tie a bow. Cut the ends neatly in
a point or arrow tail.
Cut the paper from bottom to
top in a straight line.

is to get a box for
it, that isn’t always
practical.
Think tissue
The secret weapon of the oddly
shaped present! Gently swath
the item in a few layers of tissue
paper to make its shape more
regular, than wrap the resulting
bundle. This is a good solution
for unboxed clothing and soft
toys.
Cylindrical shapes
Use a lightweight wrapping
paper so the ends are easy to
fold down. Thicker paper creates
sharp edges that look awkward.
Bottles and jars: Go with tissue
paper for a festive effect: tape
the end of the paper neatly at the
bottom of the bottle, and leave
extra paper at the top that can
be tied with a ribbon and
fanned open.
