HELP Has Arrived
During season BTP is
jam-packed … and much
needed editorial help has
arrived in the person of
HP resident Jane Breisch,
who has offered to help
edit and format articles –
and when the season paper
has as many as 30 articles,
her help is “over-the-top”
valuable.
Jane grew up in the
western suburbs of
Philadelphia and she and
Bob still live there. She earned a BA (English major, Art
minor) from Rosemont College and an MBA from Temple
University. She worked in sales and sales management

(Business Market-property and casualty) for Liberty Mutual
Insurance Co for 30 years, retiring in 2005.
After wintering in Scottsdale and Desert Falls, CA they
came to HP and rented an Abbey the winter of ’08 and ’09.
They loved it here and bought a Veranda (Abbey) on Sabal
16 in July ’09.
Jane and Bob, “her best friend,” recently celebrated 34
“wonderful years of marriage.” They have one daughter and
four “delightful” grandkids (12, 10, 6 and 2) back in PA.
They love to travel and are planning a Russian
riverboat cruise this summer. They are avid bridge
players and love “competing” on the golf course. She is
a voracious reader and leads HP Book Club discussions.
They are passionate about “Room to Read” a mission
they chair at their church.
To know Jane is to know she is accountable and a credible
worker. Welcome Jane … and thanks for your awesome help.

thrilled for the children – this was

Mark your calendars right now, and plan to attend this
very special event here at the HP Clubhouse on Monday,
February 3, 2014 at 7 p.m. Fort Myers writer-dramatist,
Rusty Brown, is bringing her one-woman show, a portrayal Rusty Brown
of Anne Morrow Lindberg. Ms. Lindberg is one of America’s
most exceptional women, and the wife of the world-famous aviator Charles Lindberg.
In 1927, Lindberg stunned the world when he flew solo (in a single engine plane)
across the Atlantic. He captivated the world again, two years later, when he married an
American ambassador’s daughter, Anne Morrow.
Their marriage is in the news, once again, with the controversial bestseller, The Aviator’s
Wife: A Novel, by Melanie Benjamin. The book elaborates on the disclosure that Charles
Lindberg created a secret life in Europe before his death in 1974. This, and other aspects
of the book, will be discussed. Ms. Brown will also perform excerpts from her show based
on Lindberg’s 1955 landmark book Gift from the Sea.
Rusty Brown is a former syndicated newspaper columnist, who has written and performed her
one-woman shows throughout Southwest Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, and New
Mexico. Brown has fully researched the Lindbergs, and also wrote a popular play about them.
Anne Lindberg came to see a performance of Brown’s show shortly before her death in 2001.
The event is sponsored by the HP Book Club. The Aviator’s Wife: A Novel is their
February book selection. But you need not have read the book to enjoy the show. Tickets
are $10 per person and reservations can be made in advance through Eileen Wood at
[email protected] or Jeanne Pauly at [email protected]. Tickets will also be
sold at the door, however, reservations are highly recommended. The 7 p.m. performance
will be followed by a question and answer period, along with dessert and coffee. Please
join us for this interesting and informative event.

Staying Connected
By Linda Harvey, Editor

We all enjoy a good love story and
HP member Dave Lionett created
one on December 28th. Dave and
his girlfriend, Lillyanna Peniza, were
playing golf; when they got to the
Royal 18 green he kneeled to pick
up his ball and took a small box out
of his golf pocket. He presented the ring asking Lillyanna to
marry him. Fortunately for Dave she said, “Yes.” They met in
Massachusetts 25 years ago when both were deeply involved
in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Massachusetts
organization. Fast forward to being reacquainted by a friend
three years ago … and now she’s moving here to begin
another chapter in their lives. FYI – they were playing alone,
late in the day, so their pace of play didn’t slow down the
troops.

One celebrated Lonni Donovan’s
90th birthday (1-10-1924) with
dinner at the Club. It wasn’t a
surprise party, but there was a
nice surprise when the Donovan’s
paid the bill for everyone. Happy
Birthday Lonni – and by the way,
Wally (a WWII Veteran) will be
90 on 6-24-14.

The Holidays at Heritage Palms
were a great success. The month of
December was filled with events
starting with the gathering of friends
and neighbors for the 7th Annual Tree
Lighting Ceremony and followed by
the Member Christmas Party, WGA
Annual Christmas Lunch, Chanukah Celebration, and the
Single Family Homes Annual Christmas Party. We closed
2013 with an elegant New Year’s Eve Dinner Buffet at the
Club and the Lodge was filled with music and members who
danced their way into the New Year.
In February, we invite you to attend a special Valentine’s
Dinner at the Club with music by Jason Desimmone. Friday
night entertainment at the Lodge continues to be a hit with
members and we have also added a Jazz night at the Lodge
on Saturday, February 8th. On February 26th the WGA will
hold its annual 18 Hole Challenge Classic with the theme
“Margaritaville” and we will end the month with a member
Dinner Dance on February 28th and March 1 featuring
entertainment by Double Dare.
Moving on to finances, the number of delinquent properties
within the community remains very low. At the close of 2013,
only eight members were past due for the 2013 assessment. A
breakdown of the delinquencies is as follows: two units are past
due from 2010 to 2013, three units are past due for the period
of 2011 to 2013 and three units are past due for 2013 only.
Of the eight delinquent properties, seven are in foreclosure
with two of the units expected to close in the first quarter
of 2014. The unspent food minimum for 2013 was $37,706
with is significantly down from the high of over $100,000 in
2008. A report on the status of collection for the 2014 Annual
Assessment will be given in the March edition of BTP.
While at the time of writing I do not have the 2013 end of
year financials, I am pleased to report that 2013 was a very
good year for the Club from an operational perspective. We
anticipate ending the year with a substantial positive variance
to plan, which we have carried forward into the 2014 budget
offsetting any need for a dues increase.
As a team we strive each day to provide exceptional
member experiences and while I believe we have made great
progress we know there is always room for improvement.
Good or bad we want to know how we are doing and if you
have thoughts or suggestions on how we can improve your
experience at the Club please let us know. You can find
contact information for all of the Club’s managers including
me on the Club Web site.
As always I thank you for the opportunity to serve this
special community.

The Ladies are starting off the New Year with a bang! How about the first three Hole-In-Ones
of the New Year are all by women. Way to go, Ladies! Seems like there’s a lot of mojo going on
with these women. Amy and Donna are in a Monday group called the Par Tee Gals. Amy and
Stephanie share the same birthday. Chris Baker was driving Donna and Stephanie when they got
theirs. I guess if you want a hole in one, call Chris to drive you around the course.

Swinger Of The Month – GOLF That Is!
By Bev Sakran
[email protected]
In 1997, Pat Burton, then
Pat Chader, and her husband,
Keith, began leaving Kansas
City, Missouri’s frigid weather
to enjoy the winter wonderland
of Southwest Florida, and more
exactly, nearby Lexington. Keith,
an avid golfer for 45 years, encouraged Pat to play, and after a
few lessons she developed his same love for the game. Finding
it difficult to get on the crowded course was frustrating so
while spending their second season there, Keith’s best friend
told them about a new budding community, and soon after
the couple watched the progress of their Brookside condo at
Heritage Palms to its completion in July 1999. Having retired
from 25 years in the banking business the year before, Pat was
enjoying life to its max, and in 2001 she and Keith made HP
their permanent residence and began playing lots of golf. Life
was great, and the next year they graduated to a villa. Sadly,
after only six weeks in their new home, Keith passed away
after a short illness in 2002.
Five years later, with the help of her neighbors, Rob
and Cathy Caruso, and Rob’s sister, Elaine playing
“matchmaker,” Pat met Don Burton. Also widowed, he was
HP’s evening gatekeeper at that time, having retired from
the Lee County Sheriff’s Department. They must have hit
it off because to celebrate her 80th birthday in November
2009, she took some of her “special” candy to her bridge
group that Thursday and told them, “We’re celebrating my
80th birthday,” and then added, “and I’m getting married
in March!” That was in 2010, and today her three sons and
families, including five granddaughters and two-month-old
great-granddaughter, Vivian, couldn’t be happier for her,
and Don too! And even though her sons are scattered across
the country they still get together often, including every
Christmas and Mother’s Day!
Pat dabbled in golf during her career years and
MONDAY,

occasionally played
with her dad who
took up the game at
80 years old. Walking
the course, or rather
running, as she said,
and carrying his clubs
until he was 93, kept
him, literally, on the
go, and this young-atheart woman has that
same energy! Today
she and Don, who just
started playing last
year, tee it up every
Monday and Friday,

she played in the
morning’s 18 hole
league, but after
crushing her ankle and
going through a few
surgeries to anchor
it in place, her foot
dictated that she join
the nine hole group.
Today she serves on
their rules committee

relaxed atmosphere.

Preferring the Royal course just to avoid Sabal’s 7, 8, “chunking” occasionally entering her vocabulary. “Can you

even believe we pay to play this game?” Pat will say, but
5-wood and 7-iron and feels that she could play the whole
then can’t wait to be right out there the next time! Hmmmm,
game with just those two. The closer she gets to the green, now how many of us can relate to that?

Diva’s Dote On Foster Children from page 1
Sue Moody founded the Divas 10 years ago; they play on
Fridays year-round. Those who were here to participate were
Stasia Arcarese, Lyn Brown, Joan Collins, Jan Donaldson,
Cindy Gilbert, Kathy Harshman, Charlotte Fennell, Kathy
Jerue, Paula Kraft, Sue Moody, Carol Pagano, Bonnie
Panther and Millie Weisbeski. Those who contributed from
afar were Judy Chalk, Ellie Manzardo, Vesta McClean, Jane
Simon, Dinah Tansey and Eileen Wood.
The party began when the children arrived at The Lodge,
we met them, and they had hot dogs, fries and a lemonade
lunch – very polite and good table manners; some who were
hungry and others who weren’t – just like us! Then the former
PE teacher/diva (Bonnie) – whistle and all – directed a few
fun games. She really got their attention and they had a ball!
Next they were interrupted by a shout from outside the
front door. Santa and Mrs. Claus (Lew and Merry) had just
arrived in their decorated golf cart – what excitement! Santa
was seated by the tree in the entry way and Mrs. Claus

Santa and Babes
Opening packages
handed him presents to
pass out. I think the kids
were excited to get just
one – but the gifts kept
coming and coming and
coming! The Divas are
very generous ladies!
After all the gifts were
opened and put into bags
for each child they each
received one final gift to
open simultaneously – a
scooter for each! After
assembly – easy to do
– they had fun roaring
around the big gym floor.
These kids REALLY
believe in Santa. They all
wanted to sit on his lap, Ready to “scoot”
hug him, and asked all
kinds of questions – do you really live at the North Pole?
Where are your reindeer? They had to get their presents from
him – not Mrs. Claus! And one little girl had to run up and
show Santa each thing she opened.
When it was time to go they were handed cookies and
candies. In addition they left with a ham and tons of groceries.
The van was so loaded down, Lyn had to help them home
with her car full of gifts and two of the seven kids.
According to Kathy Jerue, “The smiles on every child’s
face said it all. What a great idea to host a Christmas party
for Malakai and his temporary family. I loved meeting these
little people – each full of joy and happiness. I will always
remember JoJo squealing, ‘I am so happy.’ I agree that the
Divas had almost as much fun as the kids – even while
brushing away tears.”

commander, with the rank of captain. He was in charge of
a drone section that flew six-foot remote controlled model
airplanes, which took pictures over enemy lines.
In Germany he met Esther, who was teaching in the U.S.
Army schools overseas. After a torrid six-month courtship in
Baumholder, one of Hitler’s large training camps, they were
married in April 1963 in a military ceremony. Instead of
walking under crossed swords, which is usual for a military
wedding, as they came out of the church, they walked through
a tunnel of cross baseball bats. After his three-year service in
Germany, they returned to the States for a year, stationed in
Washington, D.C. until his discharge. While in D.C., Hugh
applied for many government jobs and was accepted for one
with the Central Intelligence Agency but quickly refused
because his first assignment would have been in Vietnam.
I suspect another reason was there weren’t many baseball
fields in Vietnam. They moved back to New England where
he worked for 30 years in the corrugated box industry for
Rand-Whitney headed up by Bob Kraft, owner of the New
England Patriots.
Esther and Hugh celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary last April. They have three sons – David, a sales
manager for a computer software company in Boston; John,
the chief creative officer of a TV company in Portland, Maine
and a recent author of the soon to be published book entitled,
Wide Open World; and Steve, a sales representative for Sprint
in Providence, R.I. They have eight wonderful grandchildren.
Hugh and Esther retired to Heritage Palms in 2001 and spent
summers, from 1978 to 2009, in their beach house they built
in Kennebunkport, Maine. They are both avid tennis players
– Hugh has won the Men’s Doubles Club Championship four
times and he and Esther have won the Mixed Doubles Club
Championship twice. Hugh still plays on the Heritage Palms
White B Team in the Lee County Men’s League.
Hugh has had an extraordinary life and is a real achiever.
To see him is to doubt that he is 79 years of age. We are so
fortunate to have Hugh and Esther as residents of Heritage
Palms … and Hugh as a teammate on our tennis team.

“I started playing pool at a neighborhood pool hall in
the city of Buffalo at age 13. I shouldn’t have been in there,
but no one asked any questions, so I played whenever I

was a pool player, Danny DiLiberto.” DiLiberto, who was
a teacher, author and a pro-contender, holds many billiard
titles and was named to the Billiard Congress Hall of Fame
in 2011. “Although I played a lot of sports in school, for
some reason, I really enjoyed shooting pool.”

teaching. Jack had a pool table in Buffalo, but not here
at HP. He now plays at Diamond Billiards, where there
are 19 tables to use free of charge from 11:00 a.m. to
7:00 p.m. They also have a nice restaurant and bar.
When he and his wife Carol first came to HP, he played
on the pool tables at The Lodge. Once those tables were
gone, Jack was invited to play at The Moose Lodge by
his HP buddy Whitey Sornat. While there, he noticed
he was having trouble seeing the balls clearly with his
current glasses. Upon returning to Buffalo, he had a
special pair of prescription glasses specifically made
for shooting pool. That’s dedication! He began playing
and winning 9-ball tournaments at The Moose. Then one
of his four Buffalo teacher friends, Joe Palgutt, also an
HP resident, told him about the Senior Games. The rest
is history. Other HP teachers who taught with Jack and
Carol at Sweet Home High School in Amherst, NY, are
Ron Larsen, Marci Bevilacqua and Joe Caggiano.
On December 13th, Jack played a 9-ball double
elimination (best two out of three games,) with each
competitor. He never lost a match in the winner’s
bracket, thus achieving the Gold Medal. On the 14th,
he played the 8-ball double elimination and lost his
first match to a Canadian, who he later beat. He then
proceeded through the loser’s bracket and ended up
winning that bracket. He played the winner of the
winner’s bracket, but lost. So Jack claimed the Silver
Medal by finishing second in the 8-ball competition.
Not bad for a guy who just plays “off and on!” Jack
tells me he played with a very special pool cue, an early
Christmas present from his two sons, Tom and Greg.
Jack considers it his good luck charm.
Jack and Carol, now full-time residents, are active
at HP. Both have served on several committees. Jack
is currently on his Neighborhood Assoc. Board. He’s
also very interested in organizing a group of HP pool
players. If interested, give Jack a call.

(at the Sanibel Marina)
Fort Myers, FL 33908

www.thelighthouserestaurant.com
For upscale waterfront dining at its best, this is the place
to go.
Breakfast Brunch is Sunday 11: a.m. to 3 p.m. The
Lighthouse Restaurant offers a plated meal, not a buffet.
Menu choices range from Eggs Benedict to pancakes to
omelettes. You may also order your eggs any style, or pick
the “Quiche of the Day.”
Lunch is Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The luncheon menu is unique with appetizers, soups, and
a wide variety of salads. They also have a wide range of
sandwiches: Hamburgers, Philly Cheese Steaks, Grouper
and assorted Wraps. This delightful restaurant has it all!
Dinner is served every evening, 5 to 10 p.m. You may
choose from their Signature Menu choices include: a 20oz.
Cowboy Rib Eye, Grilled Lamb Chops, Shrimp and Sea
Scallops. The Lighthouse also offers specialties like Half
Roaster Duck, Salmon, Snapper or Baby Back Ribs. Or …
you can enjoy many of the varieties of fish on the “Simply
Grilled Menu.” If you prefer, they also offer an assortment
of Pasta dishes.
Lastly, finish your meal with a deliciously decadent
dessert such as Bananas Foster or Peach Melba, and you
have the total package.
The Lighthouse Restaurant is the perfect spot for that
“special occasion,” or just a quiet romantic night out. I’m
sure you’ll want to add this to your list of favorite restaurants.
Reservations are strongly recommended.
Do You Know The Rules?
By Dave Kraft
[email protected]
Your ball comes to rest in front
of a divot which is folded over, but
not completely detached. The divot
interferes with your backswing. Are
you allowed to replace or remove
the divot before playing?
No. A divot which is not
completely detached is not a loose impediment. It is
something “fixed,” and therefore its removal or replacement
would be a breach of Rule 13-2,
as the lie and area of intended
swing would be improved.
The penalty for a breach of
Rule 13-2: Match Play – Loss
of the hole; Stroke play – Two
strokes.
From The Pro Shop
By Bob Kelly
[email protected]
Hello from the Golf Shop. We
are now in the full swing of our
golf season. Daily play is up and
our events have been well attended.
Remember to mark you calendar for
the following upcoming events:
• February 23rd – Mixed Club
Championship
• March 8th and 9th – Club Championship and Presidents
Cup
• March 22nd – Annual Meeting Scramble
In peak season we play 550 to 600 rounds of golf per day.
Playing ready golf is crucial on a daily basis. Here are some
simple things you can do that will make the golf course run
smoother:
1) Play ready golf. Hit when ready.
2)Mark your scores when you get to the next tee so the
groups that are behind you can hit sooner.
3)Leave your ball retriever at home. If you can’t do that
then please just look for your own ball.
4)Be aware of your position on the course in relation to
groups in front and behind you.
5) Play the appropriate tee for your skills.
Pace of play is the responsibility of all players and when
we all do our best to save time it makes everyone’s day
more enjoyable. Taking care of the golf course is another
major priority this time of year. Heavy traffic and cooler
temperatures take a toll on turf conditions. We as golfers
need to follow all cart directional markers, keep carts
on the path around all tees and greens, fill divots and fix
ball marks on every hole, and keep carts off of any worn
areas. I hope everyone is enjoying the 2014 golf season.
Please let us know if we can do anything to make your
golf experience better.
MGA News
By Tim Cooney
[email protected]
Treasurer and BTP Columnist
I am pleased to report the MGA
membership continues to grow. We are
547 members strong as of the beginning
of January. From October 3rd through
the end of December, $7219 in prize
money has been won in various MGA
events. Members having the most success in December were Gold
Tee players John Rogers, Stan Ehrlich, George Smothers, Fred
Huber, Richard Morrow and Ron Tschetter. Silver Tee winners
were Al Wood, David Balfour, John Deresky, Ken Hartwick, and
Greg Barbour. Ed Keller, Dan McNamara, Dave Brooks, Mike
Barry, and Alan Schutte participated on winning teams playing
from the White Tees. NICE JOB, GUYS!
Match Play begins February. It will continue into early
March, when the champions are crowned. For those not
playing, February events include:
• Feb. 6th: Two Best Balls of Four
• Feb. 13th: HARRY CHAPIN – FOUR MAN SCRAMBLE
and SUBSIDIZED LUNCH
• Feb. 20th: Four Man Team Quota
• Feb. 27th: Two Best Balls of Four
February’s highlight will be HARRY CHAPIN DAY.
Match Play will be suspended that week so all can play and
join us for lunch. Hopefully by now you have participated
in the 50/50 raffle in support of this worthwhile charity. For
every $1 donated to Harry Chapin, they are able to convert
that to $6 worth of food for the needy. THE MGA THANKS
YOU FOR PARTICIPATING ON THE 13TH, AND FOR
YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT OF THIS CHARITY!
If you make an up and down out of a bunker you call it a
“Sandie!” So, what do you call a shot you hit out of a bunker
and into the hole? You call it an “Andy!” Andy Weiner holed
one on #11 Sabal from the right front bunker. The ball rolled
and rolled across the green and into the hole. GREAT BIRDIE
SHOT, ANDY!
Only a few more spots remain in the MGA Member/Guest
Invitational scheduled for April 3rd. The entry fee is $225
per team, and, for what you get, is good value for the money.
Don’t miss out!
Thanks to those who continue to practice the “little things”
that helps maintain our PACE OF PLAY. Remember to always
keep up with the group in front of you. Also, don’t forget to
take some sand with you when you’re chipping inside cart
restricted areas, or on cart path only holes. It helps speed up
the game, while also maintaining our beautiful courses.
We hope you enjoy the events planned for this month.
Remember to always keep in mind the game was named
GOLF because all of the other four letter words were taken!
Hit ’em straight and have fun out there!

The Mind Game
Ground Rules
By Andrew Wiener
[email protected]
Ground Rules Help Groups Work
More Effectively
Have you ever served on a
committee or a work group which
presents any of the following
characteristics: 1) One person
dominates the discussion; 2) People
interrupt each other; 3) Some people say relatively little or
nothing at all; 4) Decisions are pushed through by those
who are forceful and authoritative? Or there is no clear
methods for making decisions; 5) written agendas are often
changed by a few individuals who believe their issues are
more important than agenda items? 6) Some group members
discount others’ ideas using statements such as “that won’t
work here,” or “that idea doesn’t make sense;” 7) Meetings
consistently run over allotted time; 8) Private conversations
occur during the meeting, leading some to feel that there
are hidden agendas; 9) Members often pass off beliefs/
assumptions for facts (they have no data to support claims
but, act as if their opinion is fact); 10) Because of the group
climate, members do not feel comfortable openly disagreeing
so they go along but, share their thoughts later in private.
If any of the above situations apply to your group, then a set
of ground rules would help your group function more effectively.
All work groups have two major concerns; “What
gets done and how it gets done.” “What gets done” refers
to content or the mission of the group or committee (scope
of work). “How it gets done,” refers to process or the ways
in which group members interact to complete their work.
Ground Rules regulate process and here is how they function.
1) Ground rules are rules that must be followed by all group
members independent of meeting content unless the group
votes to suspend ground rules for a particular agenda item.
2) Ground rules are set before any topic is raised. The rules
must be set in a neutral environment because once issues are
raised, members may not support rules that get in the way
of their goals (once you have a “dog in the fight,” you may
want to change the rules). The ground rules must be agreed
upon by all members.
3) Ground rules are enforced by the leader or an appointed
facilitator or all members of the group.
4) Ground rules are posted as constant reminders of
desired standards.
5) Ground rules may be customized to fit the type and
culture of the group.
Because of space limitations, I cannot post examples
of ground rules, however, if you would like some for your
group, please e-mail me at [email protected] and I will be
happy to share some examples or even help your group form
their own.

Meet Jimmy Martineau
Young, Talented And Serious
Jimmy Martineau looks younger than his 22 years and
a few of the HP female tennis players tease him about how
cute he is. He smiles and returns friendly chatter but this
young man is very serious about his new position in the
HP tennis community. Jimmy has been hired part time as
an Assistant Teaching Pro, and at his young age he has the
credentials to go with the position. He passed the threepart exam for his USPTA Certification – a written exam,
a stroke production exam and an example of private and
group lessons.
Jimmy started playing tennis at age 3. His father, a local
CPA is a 5.0 tennis player and his mother, a RN at Gulf
Coast for 25 years, has a 3.5 rating. Both play Lee County
Leagues. His sister, 24, teaches second grade but also plays
tennis. Jimmy refers to his family as definitely “a tennis
family.”
He graduated from Fort Myers High School in 2010,
where he played on the tennis team, and accumulated one
State title in singles and two in doubles. He went to the
University of W. FL in Pensacola, a Division 2 school and
played for three years. He attends FGCU part time, working
towards a degree in management and working here 15-20
hours per week. He divides his time here between work in
the Pro Shop, teaching clinics for tiny tots and for older kids.
He gives private lessons and does court maintenance – all
this “experience in the industry” in preparation for what
he hopes to do in the future – manage a tennis facility as
Director of Tennis.
Personal Glimpses of Jimmy:
Honors: Class Vice President, sophomore through senior
year. News-Press Tennis Player of the Year his senior year.
In college he was President of the Student Athlete Advisory
Committee, the athlete’s version of the Student Government
Association.
Sports Fan: He’s a huge Gator fan, likes the Cleveland
Indians, the Cleveland Browns (his dad is from Cleveland),
and the Detroit Red Wings.
Pets: He loves dogs. Dexter is the family doxie/poo and
Corkie, their Cocker recently passed away.
Favorite iPhone Apps: Facebook, InstaGram and ESPN
Sports Center.
Oops: He dropped his iPhone and the glass shattered.
He used it that way for two years, hoping to learn a lesson.
When he replaced it, he had his new phone six months and
was telling a friend about the “lesson learned” and “BAM,”
it slipped off his lap onto the patio. He still uses that cracked
iPhone – still learning a lesson.
Spare Time: Fishing in the Estero Bay and anything
Working in the Pro Shop
Clinic with kids
else outdoors. Growing up he played all sports before he
settled into tennis.
Playing Tennis: Jimmy plays in the SW FL Pro League.
This group of pros plays the highest level of tennis in the
area and plays twice a month at different Clubs. They were
here in January. When his buddies are home for college
breaks they are always setting up games.
Injuries: They are not tennis related. When he was 4 he
fell off the bed and broke his collarbone and when he was
12, he broke his leg playing hockey.
Girls: Interested, but busy working and going to school
right now.
Current Attitudes: Loves his family, they “get along
great” and would like to play Father-Son tournaments
with his dad. He loves working here – can’t believe how
welcoming and kind the members are.

Under the leadership of Martha
Simmons, eight teams of Heritage
Palms bridge players decided to
compete in an interclub bridge
tournament for 2013-14. We visit or
host different clubs once a month.
Cumulative scores are kept for each
club through April, when a grand winner is announced.
We visited Plantation Golf & Country Club in November,
and hosted Renaissance Country Club in December. Teams
play eight rounds of four hands each, breaking in the middle
for lunch. It’s a delightful day out for our bridge ladies.
The eight, two-lady teams representing HP are: Eileen
Beaulieu/Billie Porter, Martha Simmons/Pat Lonergen,
Erika MacDougall/Dorothy Frey, Millie Wiesbeski/Margie
Berlan, Lorraine Cass/Ann Wadsworth, Mary Ellen Quin/
Mary Melone, Gay MacDonald/ Eileen Wood and Mary Ann
Holt/K.C. Grosse.

February approaches and I find this year very different than the prior two. Glimpses of woe cease to betide me as February 1st marks
the anniversary of my late husband’s passing. A new joy fills my life as I have been so blessed to find love again. Although memories
of my sweet Denny are remembered well and celebrated often, it is with his blessing that I enter a new season….a season where my
spirit is renewed and vibrant! As 2014 forges ahead, I am enthusiastic in nurturing the needs of my current and future clients and
I am indebted to so many who have been pillars of support as clients, neighbors, friends and employees within the Heritage Palms
community. May each and every one of you be blessed with health and filled with joy throughout this year!
Best Regards, Karen Schmidt
