Thoughts From Anne ...
We have had quite the wave of storms
lately! It seems like every time you turn on
a radio, computer or TV, a warning or
watch is out and about somewhere.
Recently, you might even have had to go
to the basement.
Dates
to Remember ...
June 2016

The other day, after one of the stronger
storms we’ve had, I found myself trying to explain the intensity of the storm 4
8
to a family member that lives far away. I started off by telling of the big
9
winds, the low and eerie wall clouds and the heavy rains. Then the story
kind of got out of control. I wanted her to see the storm through my eyes. I 9
12
wanted her to understand the severity and my fear. I wanted her to know
how truly humbling it was to be in the midst of such a storm. In my
12
excitement and maybe even anxiety, I found myself rambling a list of
14
spooky details: the lightning, the thunder, the floods, the hail, the ...
16
All of a sudden I found myself lost in the storm. Ever felt that way? It may
19
not be with an actual weather storm but the storms of our day-to-day lives
can be just as intense, just as real, just as scary and just as
19
encompassing. It only takes a moment to get caught
21
in the details of a situation and to lose focus of the big 23
picture. When the winds are blowing and the hail
25
comes raining down, it can be really hard to find the
30
Lord’s plan or to see His hands at work.
When the storms of life seem to be tossing you
around a bit, I encourage you to find a quiet moment
(a basement sanctuary) to ask God to guide you
through the storm and to help you navigate with
grace. Pray for the peace that only He can provide
you to not only survive, but thrive. Let the details of
the storm give you strength to hold tightly to the plans
He has for you. Don’t let them cause you to lose your way. Have faith that
God will lead you out of the storm. Be blessed!
“Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life of
which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many
witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:12

sandwich or maybe a sandwich and
a salad. We have a dessert with
each lunch. Jeff Denton prepares the food for us. Please plan
to stay for Games immediately following.
Come and join the fun and fellowship on June 19.
We will meet in the Welcome Center at around noon
and travel to Bravo at Zona Rosa. Call Prudy Fiant
(741-3964) to make reservations.

hands to stitch this ministry together. If you
would like to help us by making the
pillowcases in your own home, please see
Anne as she has many already cut and
ready to be sewn. The need has increased
over the last year and we need help. Join us in room 210. Call

Choir room (113). If you enjoy singing, this is
the group for you! The focus of this group is
to share the Word with others through song.

smile and join in!

Schneider as they were recently united in
marriage. You are invited to celebrate their
marriage at a reception on June 12, from
2:00-4:00 in the dining hall.

accepted new appointments starting in June.
They will both be serving as Senior Pastors.

Come and enjoy an afternoon of
Mah Jongg. We meet in room 257
at 1 pm on Tuesdays. Bring a
friend and learn together. It is so
nice to have everyone together
and to stimulate your brain, too!
Prayer Shawl members are wonderful servants of
the Lord and they meet on Mondays at 6:30 pm
and on Wednesdays at 10 am in room 210. Come
to knit or crochet a prayer shawl and fellowship
with others. If you have always wanted to learn,
this is the time to come. There are many teachers
in this group to help those wanting to start a new adventure.
Virtual Orchestra will meet every Thursday. We have two separate
groups. The 11:00 am. group is for the more experienced organ
players. The 12:30 group is for beginner players. Come and
experience FREE lessons.
Shuttle Mania!
You probably noticed that a new portion of the parking lot has
begun its makeover. For the time being, we would appreciate
anyone who is able, to ride the shuttles from the Kmart parking lot
to the front door. The shuttle ride is a great way to make a new
friend and to avoid
the search for a
parking space. Two
shuttles will run
between 8:00 and
12:45. Please park
close to the Metro
bus stop.

able to join us. Call Jon Brown (587-6019) with any
questions.
Join in the fun for BINGO on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm
in room 210. We laugh a lot and get so excited over
the prizes. Come and join us for an afternoon of fun.
Thank you to all who come and play for those
fantastic, exciting prizes. See you on Wednesdays.
SAM Golf
Come join us on Thursdays at
Shiloh Springs Golf course in
Platte City. We meet between 4:30 and 5 pm, divide
into groups of four and off
we go. Great exercise, great
fellowship, and lots of laughter happen at the course.
The cost is $15 and includes

A team of energetic volunteers from PWUMC will be

place in the Mission Nook Bins.
Please pray for the team and those
who will find great hope from their
visit.

VBS Volunteers Needed!
July 11-15 will be one of the most exciting weeks of the year
at PWUMC. That is the fun-filled week that around 500
children plus 150 adult and teen volunteers will enjoy the
“CAVE QUEST ADVENTURE.” The only thing that will make it
even better is if you join us. Teen and adult volunteers are
needed. There are many opportunities such as shepherding,
games, crafts and snacks. Register at plattewoodschurch.org/vbs.
Blankets of Hope are meeting in room 210 at 9:30 am on the
second Tuesday of the month. We recently gave 18 quilts to
North Care Hospice and we need to get more blankets made to
be given out to those in need. We are
looking for people with a heart for helping
others. Please consider joining us to help
with this project. Call Patricia Dunn at
308-5971 for more details.
Farmers House still needs us to help. Please
join us on June 9 & 23. Come and help with
numerous jobs as we help The Farmers
House meet their needs. We will leave the
church promptly at 9:30 am to travel up to
Weston Farm. These jobs include sit down
and standing activities. We will return to the
church by 12:30.
Angel Ministry
It is angel time again. Come on Tuesday,
June 21 at 10:00 am we will make our
angels. Invite your friends as this is another
way we show God’s love to others. The
Angels are put in the bags North Kansas City
Hospice gives to the families.
Now is the time to sign up if you have not
started to play this large motor
game. It is a HEALTHY workout
and most of all it is in air
conditioning! Join us in the gym
on Tues-Wed-Friday, 3:15 to
5:15.
Contact Roger Smart
([email protected]) to
sign up for a time to play.
Bridge is on Monday nights from 5-7 pm.
Please call Bev
Poppenhagen or Anne
Bartholow for more
information. Please note
this group welcomes all
ages. Come and join the
fun! The group is growing in numbers and in
laughter. Experience is appreciated.
Please help our local schools by collecting BOX
TOPS for Education. You will find these labels
on common foods and supplies. Please cut out
the BOX TOP and bring them to Anne
Bartholow. She will disperse them. Each label
brought in is 10 cents for a local school. This is
a great way to give back to our community and
support our
schools. They do
expire, so make
sure to bring them
in as soon as you
can. You can also
bring in Campbell
Soup labels to be
distributed. A big
thank you to all of
you that have brought in your labels!
