What is THD,
anyway?
First off, if customers ask, “What is THD? I have
never heard of them,” you have a really good answer.
You can respond with, “They are the world’s top
boutique amp builder, and have been turning out
award-winning amps, cabinets and accessories since
1987. They started the whole tweed-amp re-issue
craze back in ’87 with their first product.”
So then the customer asks, “Really?Who uses their
stuff?” You come back with, “The Rolling Stones,
Metallica, Van Halen, Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow,
Aerosmith, REM, ZZ Top, Ben Harper,
Mark Knopfler, Foofighters, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, The Black Crowes, U2, Pearl Jam, you know,
almost everybody.”
To which the customer responds, “Oh! Then why
aren’t they famous?” You answer, “They are, if you
read the guitar magazines. But then, they don’t
spend a ton of money on advertising, and that shows
in the reasonable prices of their products.”
If you have been selling THD for a while,
you know how happy your customers are
with our products and how amazingly
few of them ever need repair. These
points are definitely worth mentioning to
your customer. We’ve found that
customers like to be given reasons to
believe that they will be happy with their
purchase and that they are very unlikely
to have problems with their new
purchase.

Like the UniValve, the BiValve is a singleended pure Class A design. However, it has
two output valves which are wired in parallel
and combined through a special output transformer to deliver up to around 30 watts. You
can use almost any output valve.
The THD UniValve is a Single-Ended
Class A amplifier head with a single
output tube that can be switched at will
among many octal-based power tubes,
including :
6L6, EL34, 6550, 7027, KT90, KT88,
KT77 and KT66, for different tones
without re-biasing the amp.

HOT PLATES 4-8-16 OHM
THD Hot Plate® is a tuned network of capacitors,
resistors and inductors which adjusts the overall
EQ as the volume is turned down to compensate
for the human ear's frequency response. Your ear
perceives sounds differently at different volumes:
the louder the sound, the more sensitive your
ears are to highs and lows. As the volume drops,
your ear becomes more sensitive to the midrange, and less so for highs and lows. The Hot
Plate® compensates for this, working like the
"Loudness" switch on a hi-fi. The THD Hot Plate®
is the first, and for now, the only attenuator that is
frequency compensated.

frequency compensated, which means it will give
you the best possible sound for that impedance
speaker and amplifier combination.
