ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The support arm of the New York State Archives is presenting
a history award to documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, who will appear at the
Empire State Plaza award ceremony.
Burns and Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer will give a one-hour talk before the 8:45
award presentation Monday evening.
The Empire State Archives and History Award is presented annually to nationally
prominent individuals for their work in historic research or interpretation. Past
winners include C-SPAN founder Brian Lamb, actors Sam Waterston and Richard
Dreyfuss, and historians Doris Kearns Goodwin and Henry Louis Gates.
Burns was selected for his four-decade record of producing documentaries that help interpret American
military, political and social history.
