“A Mere Matter of Marching”
Materials: map pages this document, figurines bought or printed
• Print large map pp. 15-32, trim 2 edges, and glue or tape together.
• Create stand-up soldiers from Defenders pp. 72-76, purchase plastic figurines
from local store, or use board game figures you may have on hand.
• Label forts: Print & cut labels from p. 33, attach to toothpicks and stand up
in play dough at each fort, or, if map will be rolled up daily, glue labels directly to map at each fort.
• There is always debate about “Who won the War of 1812.” The Americans
claim victory and so do the Canadians. You decide! Keep a tally of wins and
losses as you go through this study. Create some victory markers to place at
each battle on your map.
