Hello Everyone,
Mixed economic data released
this week had offsetting effects on
mortgage rates. Positive housing data
pushed rates a little higher, while
weakness in the details of the March
Durable Orders report helped rates
reverse some of the increase. For the

week, mortgage rates ended just a
little higher.
The housing data released this
week was mixed, but it was mostly
positive. March Existing Home Sales,
which account for roughly 90% of the
residential housing market, increased
6% from February to the highest level
in eighteen months. The inventory of
homes for sale rose 5% from
February, but the current 4.6-month
supply is still far below normal. A
6.0-month supply is considered to be
a healthy balance between buyers and
sellers. This low level of homes for
sale has helped push prices higher and
has held back an even faster pace of
sales activity.
In contrast to the strong figures
for existing home sales, March New
Home Sales (seasonally adjusted)
showed a decline of 11% from the
seven-year high seen in February. Home Builder Happenings
This figure should be kept in
perspective, however. First, this data
is extremely volatile month to month.
Second, new home sales still were
19% higher than a year ago. Finally,
looking at the data before it is
seasonally adjusted shows that the
actual number of new home sales in
March tied with February as the most
units sold in any month going back to
2008.

The 2015 Scholarships will
also be awarded at the May social.
This year’s recipients are Ms.
Sydney Bodensteiner and Mr.
Logan Wilson. These two young
people stood out among the best
of many applicants this year, and
we are thrilled to help them as they
take the next step to achieve their
goals!
Last month we inducted Doug
Melum and Ross Jones to the
BHHBA Hall of Fame. There
were many people in attendance to
honor these men. Both inductees
were very deserving and we would
like to thank them for their
contributions to the association
and to the building industry.
There are some other exciting
things happening in the months to
come with membership
recruitment, so please take the time
to recruit at least one new member
in 2015!

South Dakota has a great reputation for supporting BUILD-PAC. Whether it’s a
$20 contribution, or a $5,000 maximum Capital Club donation. There are many
different levels. You can also join “AMERICA’S RIDE FOR HOUSING” and get
involved and have a great day on August 1st, 2015.

• Approximately 115 Miles, open to 2, 3 or 4 wheel vehicles
• Free Food and Beverages served upon return with a cash bar available
• Event T-Shirts guaranteed to those who register on or before July 20
• Once everyone has drawn their poker hands at the end of the ride, prizes will be awarded
1st Place - $1,000 awarded to Best Poker Hand
2nd Place - $750 awarded to Second Best Poker Hand
3rd Place - $500 random drawing to include all other poker hands

You will receive one poker hand per person with your registration. Up to five additional poker hands may be

be sold once the Poker Run begins. If someone wants to participate but cannot make the ride, they are still eligible
to participate in the poker hand drawing as long as they are registered in the morning, and their poker hands are
purchased prior to the start of the ride.
