Mouser Price Reductions Add Tremendous Value
2nd Quarter 2009
Issue #34
Mouser Price Reductions Add Tremendous Value
Many sales people
feel that short term
promotional pricing is
the best way to combat a slowing economy. Others will tell you
that discounted prices
often become the expected prices for products and services, particularly when promotional
deadlines are continually
extended. The result can
be a deflationary spiral detrimental to all.
At Mouser Custom Cabinetry price reductions are
viewed from a more strategic,
long term perspective. Our
business mandate encourages
Associates to seek and identify opportunities to reduce
costs without compromising the quality of products or
services. Operational efficiencies, process refinements
or new raw material sources can produce cost savings
that are passed to Mouser Dealers on a permanent
basis. These are real cost reductions that can be
factored into project bids today, next month and next
year. They are permanent cost reductions to make our
Dealers more competitive day-in and day-out.

• Heirloom and Rub Thru distressing have been
reduced 16-28%
• Quarter Sawn White Oak wood specie charge has
been reduced 20%
• Paint Grade Cherry wood specie has been added at
37.5% less than Cherry
• Prices have been reduced on numerous popular
items such as Lattice Doors, several door styles,
some POD and POS options, the Huntington drawer
front, the B-TD,FHD cabinet 6-9” wide, the Sisal
stain, the E-9 and E-10 edges, etc.
• Custom quoted cabinets such as Inset Radius and
Curved cabinets, Farm Sink cabinets, 27” deep
Inset Corner Wall cabinets, etc. have been added at
reduced prices
• Custom quoted modifications such as Hinge Down
Writing surface, Offset Front, Removable Access
Panel, etc. have been added at reduced prices
When you consider these permanent price reductions
and combine them with the “No Price Increase”
announcement in November 2008, the approach
becomes clearer. Mouser Custom Cabinetry desires to
make its Dealers more competitive in the long term, not
just the next 60 days. For more information regarding
the permanent cost reductions contact your friendly

For Mouser Custom Cabinetry, it began in 1999
as a corporate decision to hold 1998 freight rate
percentages for another year, and it has evolved into
a long term plan that has used the same, unaltered
freight rate schedule for the past eleven years. Here
are a few good examples of permanent pricing
decisions that have occurred since July 2007 and
made Mouser Dealers more competitive:
• Solid Color finish charges have been reduced
30%
• Burnished Solid Color finish charges have been
reduced 44%
• Burnished Stain finish charges have been
reduced 50-67%
• Glacier finish charges have been reduced 40%
• The 15% finish charge for Driftwood has been

The Product Mix Numbers
Tell an Interesting Story
The 2008 sales mix numbers reveal some notable shifts in buying
patterns. With regard to wood specie sales, the increased volume
of Painted Maple and Select Alder seem to stand apart. Select Alder
increased its share of the total Mouser volume by 37%, while Painted
Maple’s share of total sales increased by 29%. The popularity of Solid
Color finishes fueled the growth of Painted Maple, and the beauty and
value of Select Alder drew more buyers to this wood specie.

changes are worth noting. Coventry, with four center panel options
and 27.1% of the total sales volume, is still the # 1 selling Mouser door

In reviewing the most popular Mouser finish and wood specie combinations
of 2008, it appears the top selling finishes often dictated the wood specie
choice. However, this is not always an accurate assessment. Although
finish choice is the most commonly used factor when making a cabinet
selection, wood specie and/or door style can be deciding factors for
many consumers. There are hundreds of choices available, but here are
Mouser’s top 20 selling finish and wood specie combinations for 2008.
1. White on Painted Maple
2. Linen on Painted Maple
3. China on Painted Maple
4. Burnished White on Painted Maple
5. Merlot on Cherry
6. Crème on Painted Maple
7. Burnished Caramel on Maple
8. Autumn on Cherry
9. Cordovan on Cherry
10. Maize with Chocolate Glaze Choice on Painted Maple
11. Burnished Autumn on Cherry
12. American on Cherry
13. Burnished Eggshell on Painted Maple
14. Russet on Cherry
15. Sienna on Maple
16. Natural on Cherry
17. Natural with Chocolate Glaze Choice on Cherry
18. Autumn on Select Alder
19. Linen Glacier on Painted Maple
20. Ebony on Painted Maple
These 20 finish/wood specie combinations contributed 39.8% of
Mouser sales in 2008 and reflect the growing trend in Solid Color
finishes. For more information, contact your friendly Mouser Custom

2008 Mouser Sales Award Presentations
Each year Mouser Custom Cabinetry distributes sales
awards as an acknowledgement for outstanding sales
performance and as a gesture of thanks to those Dealers.
Sales status is broken into four categories; Diamond,
Platinum, Gold, and Silver based on the cumulative total
in Mouser cabinetry sales for a calendar year.
One hundred ten Mouser Dealers received sales
recognition plaques for 2008. Seven Mouser Dealers
had Mouser sales totaling over $500,000 and received
Platinum sales awards; 31 Dealers received Gold sales
awards for Mouser sales totaling $250,000+; and 72
Dealers were awarded Silver sales awards for $150,000+
in Mouser sales.
Our sincerest appreciation goes out to each Mouser
Dealership and the staffs who design and work with
Mouser Custom Cabinetry on a regular basis. Good luck
to each of you in 2009 and we urge everyone to achieve
your sales potential with Mouser cabinetry. We look
forward to acknowledging our very best Dealers with a

Mouser Custom Cabinetry Product Training Updates
This past February, Mouser Custom Cabinetry held the
first of three Product Training Classes for 2009. A small,
enthusiastic group of Dealers converged on Elizabethtown
for the intense, 2-1/2 day seminar which covered many
topics including PRIZMA EuroStyle Cabinetry, numerous
new finishes and several door style additions.
The staff of Mouser Custom Cabinetry was joined by Julie
Steffen and Kristy Wendt from Mette’s Cabinet Corner in
Effingham, IL, Linda Fischer, CKD with Howard’s Kitchen
Studio, Inc., in Cincinnati, OH, Kim Travis and Abby
Keehn with Quality Kitchens of Philadelphia, PA, Toni
Sides with Karr-Bick Kitchen & Bath, LLC, in Brentwood,
MO, Renae Amberg of Apex Kitchen & Bath, Niles, IL, and
Kip Driver with Advance Electric in Gaylord, MI. During a
classroom activity designed to identify modifications and
accessories in the product displays, this group generated
the highest scores in the history of the exercise. Gift
cards from Lowes, Home Depot and Barnes & Noble
were presented to the winners. Congratulations to all
who participated!
The second 2009 Product Training Class will be held
June 15th, 16th and 17th at Mouser’s Elizabethtown
headquarters. The 2-1/2 day seminar will cover cabinet
construction, pricing exercises, ordering procedures,
finish options and embellishments. Information pertaining
to this training class will be faxed well in advance; an
early registration will ensure one of the 28 spots as class
fills up quickly. An additional Horizon Software Training
Class will be held Wednesday from 12:45 to 3:00 for
Product Training Class attendees only, and it is limited
to 8 students.
Class registration fees are $449 per person for Product
Training and $39 per person for the Horizon Software
Training. The fees may be sent with the registration
form, or we can invoice you when the completed form is
received. The Product Training fee covers three nights
lodging, two catered lunches, two catered dinners, class
materials, three continental breakfasts, class materials,
snacks and beverages. The Horizon fee covers class
material and a boxed lunch.
If you have any questions regarding registration for
the June Product Training Class, the Horizon Software
Training, class prerequisites, or training class fees,
please contact Peggy LaGray, the Mouser Marketing
Coordinator, at 800-345-7537, extension 298.

Knotty Alder S-9 Samples
Converted to Select Alder
On March 23, 2009 Mouser Custom Cabinetry initiated
an in-process change that will make Select Alder the
standard material for the Alder S-9 Color Blocks. Since
the introduction of Knotty Alder, which preceded Select
Alder, the available Alder finishes have been produced
exclusively on Knotty Alder S-9 Color Blocks. Applying the
very same Alder finishes to Select Alder S-9 Color Blocks
seemed redundant.
The increased popularity of Select Alder has generated
repeated requests for Select Alder S-9 Color Blocks, and
it appears to be the perfect time to make this “running”
change. The conversion will be completed when all Knotty
Alder sample materials have been used, so immediate
Alder S-9 orders will continue to be Knotty Alder.
Dealers with current Knotty Alder S-9 Color Blocks are not
required to replace the samples. As these Knotty Alder finish
samples expire, the new Select Alder S-9 Color Blocks will
be distributed. For more information contact the Customer
Service Department at 800-345-7537, extension 5.
Louvre Door Styles
Louvre doors create architectural interest and enhance
a variety of design styles. Our vented Open Louvre
doors permit the passage of air, making them ideal for
applications where ventilation is preferred. The open
ventilation makes them ideal for closet door and laundry
room applications.
Our Closed Louvre doors feature the same look as
Open Louvre doors without the vented passages which
allow for air flow. Regardless of which Louvre door style
you choose, both have the light air feel and blend with
cabinetry styles ranging
from French Country, to
Victorian, to Colonial.
Since each cabinetry
application may have
it’s own requirements,
Mouser Custom
Cabinetry offers both
styles of Louvre
doors in Cherry,
Maple, Select
Alder, Red Oak,
and Hickory.

Estate Moulding Option
Our recently introduced Estate Moulding Option gives you the opportunity to enhance the look on selected door styles
by adding a decorative moulding to the front of the door frame. The new Estate Moulding Option is currently available
in Maple, Cherry, and Select Alder wood species and may be applied to select door styles that include Cambridge,
Fairmont, Kensington, Milan, Monterey, Sonoma, Stratford, Tahoe and Winchester.
The moulding, applied on the flat face of the frame 1/8” from the inside edge, and mitered
at each corner, is 1/2” wide and adds 1/4” to the overall thickness of the door. The reduced
width of the flat area of the door, the inner door frame bead, and the chosen outer edge
treatment combine to limit some pull choices. Due to the reduced flat area and possible
pull availability, this option is limited to door styles that have side stiles that are 2-3/4” and
wider.
Even though it is possible to use the new Estate Moulding Option on Door Styles that have
side stiles less than 2-3/4”, consider the following: the use of an E-8 or E-PL edge treatment
on an Overlay order, or E-17 or E-18 on an Inset order, would leave approximately 1-1/2”
of space for a surface pull. While this limited space may work for your needs, depending
on the overall size of the pull you select, it will be off-center resulting with the pulls
being positioned too close together. This is especially evident when pairs of doors are
positioned close together in the overall kitchen design, or when narrow cabinets are
utilized in the design. If you elect to incorporate the Estate Moulding Option into a
design with doors that have stiles less than 2-3/4”; it is your responsibility as a Designer
to identify any issues and ensure that there is ample space for each hardware selection.
When working with the Estate Moulding Option in your design, contact Customer Service
at 800-345-7537, extension 5 for any questions, concerns, or advice on how best to
incorporate the Moulding Option.

The Kitchen Gallery of Stone Mtn.
Stone Mountain, GA
Success is Measured by Customer Satisfaction
Located in the heart of Georgia, not too far from Atlanta,
is the 5,500 square foot showroom of The Kitchen Gallery
of Stone Mountain. Started in 1999 as Continental
Kitchens, The Kitchen Gallery evolved and became a
Mouser Custom Cabinetry authorized dealership in
2002. Owned by Stanley Tidwell and managed by Greg
McCullough, The Kitchen Gallery of Stone Mountain
employs 19 associates comprised of sales personnel,
designers, administration, delivery and warehouse,
and installers. Greg started out in the industry helping
his father-in-law install cabinets, and this experience,
blended with a business background, has helped propel
The Kitchen Gallery of Stone Mountain into one of
Georgia’s premier cabinetry dealers.
Showcased in the large showroom are two beautiful
Mouser Custom Cabinetry displays. One display
features the Manchester door style on Inset Cabinetry,
and is done in Cherry with Heirloom distressing.
Another display shows off the Princeton door style in
Maple Ebony with distressing. One really interesting
aspect of the showroom is the
elevated design center, which is
incorporated into a comfortable
loft style open showroom. Clients
feel very welcome and at ease in
this atmosphere as the cabinet
designer takes them through the
project steps. To start, the designer
asks questions such as how is
the kitchen used, what type of
appliances and countertops is the client looking for, and
what accessories should be incorporated into the kitchen.
This helps the client understand their options, and allows
the designer to guide them through the process by
offering computer design, helping with the selection of
wood specie, door style and color choice, and last but
certainly not least, “jewelry” – or cabinet hardware.
The Kitchen Gallery of Stone Mountain utilizes several
forms of advertising such as magazines, newspapers
and the internet, and completes approximately 400
projects annually. They offer design services, cabinetry
installation and laminate countertop fabrication and
installation, and will work with clients and contractors on
coordinating other counter top options and remodeling
projects. The Kitchen Gallery of Stone Mountain’s
customer base is made up of consumers, builders, and
remodeling contractors in nearly equal amounts, and
Greg maintains that having satisfied customers is the
key to their success. The customer’s experience is a
blend of professionalism and stress-free, no pressure,
help with the project. The staff’s philosophy and goal is to
make the entire process enjoyable to the client. Mouser
Custom Cabinetry allows the staff to offer an exciting line
of cabinetry to the higher end clientele, and we are proud
to have them as a business partner.
We would like to extend our congratulations to kitchen designer Kristeen
A. Scott and Armstrong Kitchens of
Oakland Park, Kansas. The beautiful
Knotty Alder / Maple design shown
at right won the “NARI Kitchen of the
Year” Award for 2008 in the Kansas
City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas regional area. The kitchen won in
the $60,000 - $100,000 price range.

Spindle Leg Program
When selecting cabinetry, many consumers have a distorted idea that cabinets are
simply functional boxes with doors. With this thought in mind we must identify cabinet
cases as blank canvases upon which the designer can create masterpieces. In reality
all cabinet cases are “boxes” until the door/drawer fronts, modifications, accessories,
and the embellishments are added; then it becomes fine furniture for the home. During
the design process of creating beautifully functional kitchens, baths, and other room
cabinetry applications, the line between aesthetics and functionality becomes blurred.
Mouser Custom Cabinetry’s Spindle Leg Program acknowledges the aesthetically
functional embellishments that are incorporated into cabinetry designs throughout the
home. Spindle legs may be incorporated into cabinetry strictly as an embellishment, with
no actual functional purpose, or as an actual functional weight bearing unit. Island Work
Tables are an excellent example of spindle legs that actually support the weight of the
cabinetry and counter tops. The same is true with bathroom vanities which require either
decorative feet, Queen Anne Legs, or Spindle Legs to support the cabinetry above the
floor.
Designers can utilize spindle legs from our Spindle Leg Program to create a unique
table with that highly desired furniture look that is so popular. You can order our Spindle
Legs loose, along with appropriate size wood edging to build a
custom table at the job site. The wood edging would be used
to create the table apron and should not be any smaller than 4”
wide. Our wood tops can be used as long as your design provides
adequate support underneath the top. You should also inform your
client about proper wood top care. Even though you may utilize our
wood tops as a table top, they are not intended for that purpose
due to the excessive wear and tear.
In addition to utilizing spindle legs in a functional
aspect, our spindle legs may also be used as a
decorative attachment. One of our more popular applications is to use
the spindle leg in combination with our offset corner option. The corners
of the cabinet are notched to receive the spindle leg, thereby creating the
illusion of a table. Since spindle legs are not always perfectly square, the
notch should be either slightly smaller or slightly larger than the thickness
of the leg to avoid a flush appearance. Our spindle legs can also be split
in half and attached to the face of either a wide or extended stile for a
similar look.
Mouser’s Spindle Leg Program offers Multiple spindle leg styles ranging
from Contemporary two and four sided tapers (Styles “K” & “L”), to the
traditional/transitional designs offered with Styles “A”, “B”, “C”, “G”, and
“J”. More intricately carved and detailed designs are offered with Styles
“D”, “F”, “H”, “M”, “N”, “O”, “P”, and “WEAVED” options. Since spindle
styles may vary in square widths, heights, and available woods, pay
close attention to the sizes indicated on pages 10-49 thru 10-52, and
pages 10-83 and 10-84 in the current Price and Specification Catalogs.
While these options provide an extensive selection of spindles to choose
from, sometimes a more customized spindle is required for a more
discriminating client. In that case, Mouser Custom Cabinetry can supply
you with a price on a completely different non-standard spindle leg design
through our Custom Quote Program. Any questions regarding the spindle
legs available in our Spindle Leg Program, available sizes, or styles and
sizes available through our Custom Quote Program should be directed to
the Customer Service Department at 800-345-7537, extension 5.

14-Day Finish-up Service
14-day Finish-up service may be requested for small orders such as appliance panels,
wainscot panels, or additional cabinetry being added to an existing job, based on our current
production capacity and the complexity of the order. Orders containing complex items that
require production drawings, items that must be worked out by our Custom Quote
Department, labor intensive items, or items with extended production lead-times do
not qualify for this finish-up service. 14-day Finish-up orders will not be held for an Order

7-day Finish-up service may be requested for items that are simple to produce, completely
manufactured by Mouser Custom Cabinetry and were listed on the original order in the

up service. Please reference the original work order number when applicable to allow us to
verify items ordered are correct when replacing existing items. Some items do not qualify for
this 7-day Finish-up service due to extended lead-times required for those items. The 7-day
Finish-up Service is not available when mouldings, appliance panels, or wainscot panels
were not ordered and produced with the original order.
48-Hour Quick Ship Service
48-hour Quick Ship Service is available for non-manufactured items we stock, such as care
kits, door and drawer pulls, drawer slides, sample fronts, color blocks, unfinished wood knobs,
decorative woodcarvings, leaded glass, special order items, extended production door styles,
etc.
When requesting orders with any of our expedite lead times, if items ordered require different
lead-times, we will assign all items the lead time of the item(s) with the longest schedule.
If you wish to receive the items at different times, please use separate order forms for the
various items and specify the specific lead times you require on each order. Requests made
to separate orders after we have acknowledged them cannot be honored.
