Let Me Greet You, Dear Subscribers
Together, we have experienced a year full of interesting projects and
new technology.
And now, as Geocell meets the New Year as the leader of mobile communication market, I want to express my gratitude to you, the customer,
for making this happen. In the next year, we will continue to provide you
with the same easy and reliable mobile communication that made Geocell
number one among our competitors.
It is very important, however, that our company does not forget about
its most important role. Geocell is committed to taking care of our people
and our country, and strives to be an integral part of this country’s economic and social development,. Therefore, each year Geocell focuses on
projects to preserve our cultural heritage, support education, and promote the integration of people with disabilities into society. This last year
was no exception.
I would like to specifically focus on Geocell’s project called, “For a Successful Future.” With this slogan, Geocell laid the foundation for a very important educational initiative. Classrooms of the future were created for
two public schools in Georgia; they were equipped with modern classroom
technology, giving the children the resources they need to compete in today’s modern world. .
Last year was also full of a series of special offers for Geocell subscribers: an unprecedented tariff ( “Three Zeros”), the most preferential roaming tariffs, the Android Smartphone, new tariffs for mobile Internet, and
unprecedented lotteries only offered to Geocell subscribers. This is a
small list of what Geocell was able to offer its customers this past year,
and we know it was much appreciated.
Let me wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and much success in the coming year.
In 2012, look for more offers and options from Geocell!

"The Classroom of the Future" from Geocell
Geocell has actively started taking steps to ensure the future
success of the younger generation. About a month after opening
a classroom equipped with modern technologies in Tbilisi, another Geocell classroom was opened in Kvareli. As we described
in the previous edition, the "For Successful Future" project has
been launched to create multi-function classrooms, with plans
to gradually increase the number of Geocell classrooms across
Georgia. The first regional classroom of future will create a comfortable and interesting teaching and learning environment at
Kvareli School. Such a pilot program is extremely important for
children - especially those who live where modern technology is
limited. Geocell classrooms will promote the integration of these
children into the modern world.

It is not news that you will come across Geocell’s name among
those who give to charity. Let me tell you about one charitable
project in which Geocell has had an active role. For ten years
now the Mutual Assistance Foundation of Educational and Labor Activities has been working in Georgia. The foundation, set
up by a group of businessmen, renders financial assistance to
students, families, and homeless children who are living in poverty or struggling to make ends meet. That is why this foundation is on the list of the most popular charitable organizations.
The foundation was set up by Chaglar Educational Institutions,
Mesut Bozkır, former chairman of the Supervisory Board of the
International Black Sea University, and Prof. Giuli Alasania, vice
rector of the International Black Sea University.
This year Geocell once again joined forces with the Mutual
Assistance Foundation of Educational and Labor Activities. As a
result, 100 students from poor families were awarded one-year
scholarships. Families who are living in poverty received essential items such as food and clothes, and exhibition-sale was arranged to assist orphaned children.

On November 1, First Experimental School students, who
graduated with excellence and passed their national entry exams were awarded with silver medals. Osman Turan, CEO of the
company, personally handed the medals to the 14 young people. Along with the medals, the students also received generous
gifts from Geocell.
Geocell has been actively cooperating with the First Experimental School for a year. Several months ago Geocell opened
a new classroom at this school equipped with modern technologies in line with the project "For a Successful Future." This classroom meets the highest standards of Georgia’s education system. Geocell does not limit itself only to these projects and plans
to continue to find new and innovative ways to support successful, talented youth in the future.

Just imagine you had to take a trip somewhere like Scandinavia, the Baltic States, or even Spain. However long your trip may
be, you will not feel far away from home – that is, if you are a Geocell subscriber. While walking down the streets of Stockholm or
Copenhagen, you will feel like you are on your own street. There
is nothing magic about it – it simply has to do with a purple, wellknown logo, which you can see everywhere – on the walls of
buildings, in booklets, on moving advertising boards. This logo
belongs to the Geocell network which is a member of TeliaSonera – one of the world strongest’s telecommunication groups.
TeliaSonera network operates in 13 countries around the
world, including Georgia. At the end of each year, the company
invites journalists from these countries to take part in a media
tour that is more than just a way to establish contacts. During the
event, TeliaSonera reports the past year’s results and introduces
journalists to their latest technological advances.
Irma Tskitishvili, Geocell’s Corporate Communications Manager, spoke with us about the media tour’s main purpose.“This
media tour is traditionally held in Stockholm with TeliaSonera’s
top managers acting as hosts. They meet with the representatives from media outlets as well as people working in the corporate communication field from TeliaSonera member countries.
The company management informs those on the tour about the
past year’s results, speaks about what TeliaSoner’s priorities
and activites have been throughout Eurasia, as well as discussing new technology, future plans, and so on. This is a very good
relationship, as the journalists get personally acquainted with
the people who stand behind the company.”
Gvantsa Sutidze, reporter from Rustavi 2 TV, was one of those
invited to the media tour by TeliaSonera; she was impressed by
what she saw and heard. “TeliaSonera held a very interesting
presentation for reporters and presented a lot of new information and products,” Sutidze tells us. “It is very interesting when
the company deems it necessary to report on how it is developing from year to year. I was especially impressed by 4G communication. During the tour, we were informed about how it works
and what particular advantages it has. They also told us about

other achievements in 2011. We learned that in 2011, TeliaSonera completed the rebranding of all its companies. As they say
in TeliaSonera, when you are traveling to those countries, where
there are operators (i.e. “operator” here means a member of
TeliaSonera) and if you are a Geocell subscriber, you enjoy certain privileges, because roaming tariffs are extremely low. I was
also impressed by the technical office, where we were shown the
servers that provided the quickest Internet connection -- fourth
generation; we were also acquainted with the particulars of their
jobs. During the visit we got to know reporters from various
countries and it was a very good experience for all of us.”
A media tour is a good opportunity for Geocell to share information about its activities and TeliaSonera with interested persons. Journalists getting acquainted with the TeliaSonera management and the principles of the company’s activities, show
more interest in the TeliaSonera operator in their native country.
“For us, a journalist is an important part of how we communicate; it is an key relationship,” Irma Tskitishvili says. During a
media tour, the borders between an individual and a company
are removed, and direct, transparent contacts are established
between the two sides. Later we were able to share the story of
this relationship when it aired on the program P.S. on Rustavi 2.
During the 2011 meeting, the Georgian side displayed a high
level of professionalism, as did their hosts. However, when we
say the word “professionalism”, first and foremost, we remember Sweden – especially when the topic is communications and
new technology. “Since Sweden has historically been an innovator in the field of technological development (the first telephone,
and the first mobile telephone were both invented there) it is no
surprise that we were taken to the Museum of Technology where
we were able to clearly see the history of technological development. Seeing technology’s first efforts emphasizes what huge
steps have been taken in technological development,” Gvantsa
Sutidze told us.
This is the country where one can observe the evolution of
communication – starting with wooden phones and ending with
4G mobile devices. Because of TeliaSonera, Georgian subscribers are able to keep up with technological development. Now it
is up to the Georgian people to take the opportunity to use TeliaSonera’s best product – 4G communication with TeliaSonera
being its first provider. For TeliaSonera, quick, direct communication is the priority. Arranging an interesting media tour is just
one way for them to get their message across.

Active viewers of Geostar know well that Geocell launched
their TV contest seven years ago, when it started looking for
young, talented vocalists throughout the country. Later, this
innovative idea acquired such a large following that it turned
into a public project. For the past seven years, the coming of
the New Year is associated with Geostar. Our magazine has
presented Geostar from various angles. We have introduced
you to the team working on the project; we have let you look
behind the scenes from the perspective of contestants, jury
members, and of course the viewers.
But, what do other professionals in the business think about
the program?
Marika Darchia, director of the creative group Palitra Media, spoke with Dialogi about how the project’s creative group
managed to turn the first large scale musical marathon in the
country into the successful show it is now.
“I know Geostar very well. If we discuss this project in terms
of public relations, it is extremely important that the company
introduces itself to the society – not only as a recognized and
business-oriented organization, but also as a company com-

mitted to certain social projects. It is also very important to
note that we live in a society where there are a lot of people
with music skills. Such skills do exist in the country and they
need to be demonstrated. But another issue is gaining confidence. When you create a different and unbiased project, it
is difficult to convince the society of your sincerity because
it is a competition. This is hugely important in terms of PR.
Geocell managed to gain confidence and to provide high public involvement in the project. A lot of people are involved in
the process and each viewer has the feeling that he/she is a
co-participant on the project,” Darchia said. She also commented that she can only welcome the company’s ambition to
spend money on the discovery and development of talented
young people. “Worthy and strong companies are creating
similar projects throughout the world, but they are not profit-oriented. These are those expenses, which compensate
public trust and reputation that is not measured by money.
It can be said boldly that, by this project, Geocell is actively
propagandizing the development of vocal skills. When you are

implementing this type of a project, much has to be taken into
consideration – for example, which channel has good coverage, which channel has more viewers? . . . It is also key to
choose the right showman -- someone who will be able to
reach everyone watching and participating. It is important
that the show has a host with enough charm to establish a
relationship with the viewers and participants. Geocell made
the correct choice in this regard. Several times, I could not
watch a Monday concert. The next day, we, the entire creative team, were watching the concert, rewinding some parts
of the concert and discussing it . . . In my opinion, gaining the
confidence of the viewers and participants and maintaining it
takes great skill.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of
Georgia on the forthcoming New Year and Christmas!”
Kakha Magradze, senior consultant at GEPRA, believes that
social responsibility is quite important for a country like Georgia, and for a company like Geocell. He describes Geostar as
an ambitious and innovative project. In Magradze’s opinion,
by launching this project, Geocell created a space in Geor-

gia’s culture for more music contests in the future. “Today
Geostar is an independent cultural stratum in Georgia, which,
as it seems, will exist permanently. It has paved the way for
those who decide to try show business in the future. One of
the reasons for Geostar’s success is that Geocell managed
to tailor this project to Georgian reality; the result was that it
it really turned into a national project . . . Although I do not
have an exact estimate on how much the project cost, I know
that similar projects require significant material and human
resources. From this point of view, Geostar is clearly a social project and not a profit-oriented one. This is social responsibility on the part of the company,” he said. Magradze
has even dedicated lecturers to this theme – speaking with
his students about the project’s importance and strategies.
Magradze believes, from his professional point of view, that
Geostar is clearly a product of Geocell. He explained that, for
ordinary citizens, Geocell is a cheerful, attentive and friendly
company, and it is this reputation that makes Geostar such a
natural Geocell project.

In what was a great surprise to everyone, this year Geostar returned with a new jury. One of its new members is Niko Nergadze,
music critic, founder of the first Georgian music journal, and reporter
at Radio Liberty. Geocell met with Niko Nergadze to talk about the
musical project.
Niko Nergadze was previously just a passive Geostar viewer. The
show has always interested him, but since he does not like to watch
TV, he did not watch consistently the contest. "I do not watch TV frequently. Until now I did not have any definite idea about the project,"
Niko explained. But after he appeared on the jury, it’s now his obligation to have an opinion about everything that is happening. And while
he has his favorite performers, he is fair when pointing out what he
does and does not like.
When asked about his ideal contestant, he answered, "First of
all, he/she should sing very well, should be diverse (i.e. should sing
many various songs equally well), and the third, he/she should be
like a star. When he/she stands on the stage, you should feel that a
singer is standing there and not a contestant. That is extremely difficult - especially if you have started singing quite recently. However,
these are general, standard criteria. This is my opinion. This is my
assessment," he said. "There are no subjective and objective sides
here. Ultimately, my opinion is subjective. I do not take into consideration whether I like this genre or not. Maybe, the song did not please
me at all - there is a Georgian song round, to which I do not listen at
my own will, neither the original, nor the cover version, but I am looking at how he/she performed this song,"
After Coming to Geostar
"First and foremost, I saw that this project is very popular and enjoys high ratings; each fourth or fifth person watches this project in
Georgia and that is very impressive in itself. Moreover, Geostar, first
of all, is a TV show, which is staged to make it interesting to the viewers - to entertain people and let them listen to good music; moreover, it is a very good opportunity for the participants to present themselves to all of Georgia. As far as the show is concerned, it depends
very much on who the finalists are and how the contestants perform
their songs. I have frequently heard various complaints - a winner will
be revealed and then what? If a person can achieve something, there
is a very good chance that people, potential sponsors see them, and
that they will get to record songs. When you switch on your TV, Geostar contestants make up half of participants of various shows. I do
not know how it will influence their material status, but probably they
feel better rather than not for having participated in Geostar."
Niko Nergadze also commented that the Georgian project is different than other shows in the same genre. "American Pop Idol, whose
project was purchased by Rustavi 2 TV, is an analog to Geostar. The
difference is that the contestants have more opportunities there. If,
for example, duets are performed in the United States and England,
they get a lot of attention. The situation is different in our country. The
pop song was invented there, and numerous new songs are created
there every year which become popular with many people listening

to them. The situation is quite different in our country - the majority of
popular songs are old Georgian songs. And, if a new song is created
once every two years that gains popularity, it is already good. Therefore, it is more difficult to perform modern songs, because there are
no modern Georgian songs."
He says that he would not change anything in the project. He
likes that a winner is selected by the people and not by the jury.
"Many people say after Niko Beridze left the contest, why can’t
the jury save anyone from elimination? Niko Beridze was a very
good performer. I expected him to sing in the finale and believed
that he had a very good chance to win; but on the other hand, he
garnered the fewest votes during voting. In this case, the jury may
say, you know, the messages sent by you do not count, and that
we know better that this man (voter) that he should stay and that
one should go. I do not think this is correct. Previously, there was
a hybrid - the jury was able to grant immunity to someone. If it is
up to the jury to make a decision, how interesting will this show be
for the people?"
Even if he had a good ear and could sing, we would not have had a
chance to see Nino Nergadze among Geostar contestants, because
when he sings in a bathroom and imagines himself as a singer, he
mostly thinks about being a rock singer rather than a pop singer. "For
rock stars, Geostar and similar projects are not the best path, because it is a competition and at the same time, a very specific one.
Here, a person should be able to perform the songs of various styles
and genres equally well. One may sing folk songs in this round, then
Merab Sepashvili and Stevie Wonder in the next round, and finally the
Beatles and Nirvana. The majority of rock singers are not so diverse
and they do not need to be. Those, whom I am listening to, are singing quite well in their genre and if you ask them to sing soul, they will
fail, because they do not like it. It is not compulsory for everyone to
be good in all spheres. This is a specific project, where you should
sing everything and you should do it equally well," Nergadze says.
"Geostar is good because you are looking at how the contestants
are developing; they are learning how to stand on the stage, they
are performing in front of a million viewers; that is a brilliant chance
for them because afterwards they can do whatever they want. As a
rule, if we are talking about rock, most rock singers do not emerge
as a result of some contests; you simply start from the bars and ascend subsequently. In Georgia, mass music is popular; the singers
like Gogi Dolidze are usually winning the contests. People like such
songs and it is difficult to make someone like you with your unique
vision, because they like something different.
I have several favorite performers in Geostar. Niko was my favorite
performer and he was expelled. Now I am supporting Marita, because she is young, this is her first appearance on the stage, and she
can do it quite well. I think she will achieve much. Levan is also singing
well. I try to avoid anything that shouldn’t influence my assessment. If
they do not sing well, I will say so.

"Giving Thanks to Whom?" It is the simple question so
often asked by Duta, yet many lucky Geocell subscribers
find it rather difficult to answer when they unexpectedly
receive Geocell’s generous and often suprising gifts.
Each year, by seasons, Geocell holds a lottery with unprecedented prizes for subscribers. This summer, the
company raffled residential apartments in Batumi. Now,
with winter approaching, the company will give the gift of
comfort on the road to lucky subscribers by raffling Jeep
vehicles.
From October 28 to January 5, every Geocell and LaiLai subscriber can register for free by dialing *033# OK,
while each Saturday, from November 5 through January
7, Geocell will raffle off 10 Jeeps, and a Hyundai IX35 live
on Imedi TV.
The rules are quite simple. After registrating, a subscriber will receive one ticket for every 5 GEL loaded to
their account. In addition, over the course of the lottery,
subscribers can reactivate and use their numbers free of
charge. Only one prize will be raffled during each program.

But that is not the only Geo-lottery subscribers can
enter. Imitated Internet café for Facebook users is the
façade of a decorative house made in Geocell’s corporate colors along with a Geocell office on its first floor to
make it more realistic and just like it is happening in realtime. To make it more dynamic, Duta enters the studio
by Hyundai IX35. Generally, each lottery by Geocell has
its own adventure story.
When the first lottery by Geocell was broadcasted
years ago, there was no such analog in Georgian TV.
Geocell was the first company to hold such lotteries,
an example of the company’s "know-how." Eventually,
the lottery was established as an entertainment show
with Geocell’s creative group working out its scenario.
Previous lotteries are analyzed, and their positive and
negative aspects revealed. Using lessons learned, a
new lottery program is planned and created using a new
scenario.
The program team tries to look at the story through the
eyes of viewers; as soon as the scenario is approved,
they start the difficult, tense work of turning the new
scenario into a final product. Geo-lottery is so popular among the viewers that even those viewers who
do not participate in the lottery watch it. As far as
"the internal kitchen" of the program is concerned,
each detail is discussed here with a huge sense of
importance. Each person has to fulfill a concrete
task within strictly defined timeframes. And each
of them uses their own strategy while trying not to
violate the team playing principle. Duta also is an
active member of the creative group, participates
in the development of each detail. Although, it is
impossible to completely plan the live broadcast in
advance, the host uses experience and talent to find a
common language with all respondents.
The involvement of Facebook became quite important in the current lottery. Geocell launched an interesting video competition for Facebook users, and introduced key prizes. The competition is called "2021."
To participate, you simply need to create a one-minute
video clip, where you tell a funny story from the future
about how you became a Geocell subscriber and what
has changed from 2012 to 2021? Upload the video on
YouTube, go to Geocell’s Facebook page, and add
your video clip to the "2021." You need to indicate your

On a lovely November day, the young writers were taken to
the wonderful Lake Lopota to let their imaginations and writing skills work to solve the butterfly effect mystery in their own
way. In two days, the jury for the student literary contest received 15 new works based on the fable.
The mystery of the butterfly effect is that a single flap of a
butterfly’s wing may over time set off a tornado somewhere
else. The concept of the butterfly effect was reflected in different genres produced by the 15 writers, of which the jury
selected the best three works. The top authors were awarded
a monetary prize from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University along with special awards from Geocell.
The first place winner, or the legend of this year’s Autumn
Legend, was Iva Pezuashvili.
He received a free stay at the hotel on Lake Lopota – giving
him the opportunity to go back to Lopota and rediscover the
muses who inspired him to find his character Babazi and bring
him to life in his story. “For Babazi, time is what he manages
to do; the world is everything that happens and perfection
is managing to do something in everything.” In the story of
Babazi, his brother Gubazi starts a chain of comic situations;
but a small change may lead Babazi to understand what imperfection means as he may or may not escape failure. You
can read it and watch a short movie; Pezuashvili, who is from
the Cinema and Theatre State University, combined the two
genres.
The variation of the butterfly effect offered by the second
place winner, Magda Batiashvili Tbilisi State University, uses
the four elements through the story of four people. “Margo

worshipped the fire, Elfida loved the earth, Ierene was crazy
about her fish and the sea, as for Areme she was all about the
air and flying.” All of them carry the same gene, are born at
the same ranch at different times and live an ordinary life. How
would their lives change if Fire Fest did not change the train
ticket and went to Margo two days later?
The third place prize went to a student from Ilia State University, Nino Tepnadze; it was her second time participating in
the Autumn Legend. Her character is a Japanese artist, Yuki,
who suddenly appears and changes another person’s life.
Yuki’s space includes about 20 small rooms, which represent
models of life. “We make choices all the time and this process
resembles entering the room. As soon as you enter one room
you lose an opportunity to discover and explore other rooms.
Besides, each choice changes the person.”
Each choice, which some of us make consciously while others entrust to the flow of life, changes our lives. The choice
made by each participant of the contest to connect their lives
with the Autumn Legend changed their futures. Some of them
have already established themselves in the literary world;
others are still growing and preparing to make their contribution to contemporary literature. The goal of the contest is
expressed in its slogan. This year we have discovered new
faces and the works of seven of them have been included in
the 2011 brochure for the contest.
Everything is linked. Nothing happens by accident and we
believe that a flap of a butterfly’s wing set off a tornado in
contemporary Georgian literature.

Nodiko Tatishvili: “I
Am Georgian”
By Maia Tsetsadze
Everything started on December 31, 2009 at the Geostar final when Nodiko
Tatishvili became the Geostar 2009. As you know, Geocell contributes to each
Geostar’s development even after the contest is over. And it was with this support that, after a year and a half of hard work, Nodiko was able to produce his
first solo album – the biggest step in his career thus far.
“I Am Georgian!” is named after one of the songs on the album that Tatishvili first performed at a charity TV marathon on Lithuanian National Television;
the song was written by Mamuka Begashvili with lyrics by Bibi Kvatchadze.
For the live broadcast, the song was translated into English and had a fairly
large viewing audience. The TV marathon was attended by Members of the
European Parliament and various diplomats. The song has a political context
with lyrics that protest against the war and preach peace. Following the performance, the former Lithuanian president, Valdas Adamkus, who came to
Georgia to show solidarity during the 2008 war, thanked Nodiko and commented that he hoped the entire world could hear his song.
The album has a total of 14 songs, including Nodiko’s hit, “It’s OK”, and
was recorded in the Sano Studio. Twelve of the songs were written especially
for Nodiko while the other two are variations of the well-known, “Tchia Maia”
(lady bug), and “You Look Like a Dream.” The former was written by Nodiko’s
teacher, Nana Daushvili, and performed by Merab Sepashvili and Marika Katsarava 15 years ago. The new version features Nodiko and Nini Shermadini.
”You Look Like a Dream was written by Davit Evgenidze, and first performed
by Maia Jabua. Nodiko’s interpretation was written by Boriko Shkhiani, who
is also behind the musical arrangements for most of the songs on the album.
The authors of the other musical arrangements include Mamuka Begashvili,
Zura Laliashvili, and Zura Makhniashvili. The album, which was recorded with
live accompaniment, and Nodiko said he was thrilled to work with such talented musicians as Lasha Topuria, Gia Salaghishvili, Merab Sanodze, Manuchar Manhavidze, Khvicha Maghlakelidze and Aleko Berdzenishvili.
Nodiko commented,“I would like to thank Maiko Katchkatchishvili for writing four songs and for doing most of the back-vocal. I would like to thank all
the composers and poets for creating melodies and lyrics for me. I would
like to say a special thanks to the instrumentalists, the authors of the musical arrangements, the voice operator Giorgi Kutateladze, the music editors
of Rustavi 2, and my teachers from Geostar, who are my close friends now. I
would also like to thank my family for putting up with my schedule and supporting me. In the end, I would like to mention Geocell in a special way because the people at Geocell gave me such a great prize -- my solo album. As
a rule, every established singer must have a solo album. So it was a great joy
when I learned that I would also have my own solo album. In terms of career
and prestige, it is very important. I have received numerous presents from
Geostar and I thank them for that; but the biggest present for me was what
Geocell did.”
The musical producer of the CD is Marina Beridze. Besides the duet
with Nini Shermadini, the album includes duets with Datuna Mgeladze, Nini
Badurashvili (Eka Kakhiani’s song “I Will Come to You”) and Gogola Kalandadze. The CD cover was designed by Davit Kiknadze, and the album photos
were taken by Mamuka Kikalishvili in the Kikala Studio. Despite the fact that
Nodiko is not a big fan of photo shoots, he did say that these photos will show
a different side of Nodiko to his fans.
The new album was presented to the public on December 12 at the same
place where it all started – the Great Philharmonic Concert Hall. One song
from the album (by Davit Evgenidze) was presented at a Geostar concert.
This time Nodiko Tatishvili performed “You Look Like a Dream” as a guest star.
The young singer will make his next step in March with his first solo concert as
a part of Aleksandre Basialaia’s jubilee, and it will also take place in the Great
Philharmonic Concert Hall.

The Finnish-Swedish company TeliaSonera is one of the world’s strongest telecommunication companies, and Geocell is
a proud member of TeliaSonera’s Eurasia
Group. Today TeliaSonera serves millions
of people in over 20 countries around the
world. It carrys out its success in Georgia
through the company Geocell.
TeliaSonera has three basic tenets. The
first one is customer satisfaction. The EPSI
(Extended Performance Satisfaction Index) survey conducted in Georgia has, for the third consecutive year, revealed that Geocell is the most trusted company among those included
in the survey, with the the highest customer satisfaction. Alexander Kosobokov, EPSI director general, presented the latest survey results to the
Geocell staff at the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel on November 29.
Alexander Kosobokov, EPSI director general: “EPSI tries to detail in its
surveys what the consumers need most of all; this ensures that the operators meet these requirements and give due consideration to consumer
opinions. According to the conducted survey, LaiLai is indisputably a a
leader in the market – and this is up against quite a bit of competition. The
survey found that consumers, first and foremost, are interested in price,
while quality comes second. However, in Georgia, special attention is paid
to service quality, because all operators do their job well. The price set by
Geocell is in line with the quality. Therefore, consumers tend not to want to
switch to another network. We recommend Geocell and LaiLai continue
working on their image. Social responsibility assumed by the company is
extremely important to consumers.”
Manana Dularidze, head of the Subscriber Relations Department of Geocell: “For several years, TeliaSonera has surveyed almost all the countries
involved in its group. Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are the countries included in the process in Eurasia. For the survey very similar questionnaires were used. For this year’s EPSI surveys, we had good results
– like the previous year. This time, however, LaiLai has become a leader.
Geocell’s key goal, as a member of the TeliaSonera Group, is to become a
world class service provider, providing high quality services and network.”
The findings published by EPSI have confirmed once again that service
has improved and customer satisfaction and loyalty have increased as a
result of the new features introduced in various markets.

What is Android?
For some time mobile phones have included many functions
along with traditional voice communication. Transformation of mobile phones into modern polyfunctional devices was made possible
through phone operating systems such as Android.
An operating system (OS) is a complex set of programs that allow
a user to operate a device - working with files, starting programs
written for particular systems, etc.
Android OS is one of the leading, most widely spread, and newest
operating systems used for mobile phones, as well as for netbooks
(also called tablets), smartbooks, tablet computers and other devices. Innovative gadgets such as the new i’m Watch, introduced by
Italian company Blue Sky, was also added to the number of devices
operating on Android OS.
Android OS was first developed by Android Inc. In 2005, world giant Google purchased the company. Since then, the development of
the operating system has only been connected to Google.
The first Android-based cell phone appeared on the world market in 2008 - smartphone manufacturer HTC created T-Mobile G1
for the European operator T-Mobile. After the release of this model,
other world manufacturers began to show interest in Android. Today, some of the companies using this system include: Samsung,
Sony Erickson, HTC, LG, Huawei, Motorola, Toshiba, Delhi, etc.
Like all operating systems, after the release of the first version,
Android OS underwent several modifications. Released in alphabetical order, each modified version has a codename associated with a
dessert such as Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread..
Huawei U8150 IDEOS Smartphone on the Geocell network operates
on the Android 2.2 version, Froyo (i.e. Frozen Yogurt).
Android Advantages
Why is Android OS the preferred operating systems? The Tether
and Google Map functions are the top two reasons.
With Tether’s help, you will be able to use your mobile phone to

ways: via USB cable and Wi-Fi. In the both cases an Internet connection is easy to get, though it is much easier with the help of a USB
cable (mobile phones and computer don’t need additional programs
or drivers). You simply need to connect your Android to a computer
and select a special menu (the device is also charging in this mode).
With the help of Google Maps, you will be able find your location,
as well as the whereabouts of your friends. You only need to add
them as friends in the relevant program. Since Google has added
the entire Georgian map to its system, you will also have an opportunity to find streets in Tbilisi and around the country.
Android offers a number of other interesting functions and services. Android is considered one of the favorite operational platforms
for gamers because of its high quality multimedia support, including
high definition video and audio files, with a selection of resolutions.
Android platform enables any user to create an application and
replace the already existing applications with their own. They can
also share their work with others as part of a special market. Android
supports a total of about 200, 000 different applications.

Every man on our planet knows every other man through a chain
of networks. On average this chain is made of six people. This theory of six handshakes was offered in 1969 by American psychologists Stanley Milgram and Jeffrey Travers. The so-called "Small
World Experiment" was recently tested by Facebook with support
from the University of Milan. After all active accounts were studied,
the average connection chain was found at 4.74 units; that means
that any two people in the Facebook world are separated from each
other by only five common acquaintances. Now imagine a brand
that wants to be in constant touch with its customers, and provide
them with the latest information on activities and news. How could
it do that?
On February 4, 2004, a Harvard student opened a window, uttered one magic world and called upon others to join. The student’s
name was Mark Zuckerberg. The window he opened was into the
virtual world and the word he uttered was facebook.

"If there’s anyone who thinks that the decades’ worth of work can
occur to a person by being hit on the head by a falling apple, I would
advise him to settle in an apple orchard," said Isaac Newton. "What
was before the falling apple?" is our question.
The Phillips Exeter Academy, or Exeter as students call it, is located in New Hampshire. It is a school that prepares its students
to enter the most prestigious universities. Exeter students live on
campus during their studies, and it was here that Mark Zuckerberg
studied for three years. Just like others, he was given a student directory with photos, phone numbers, maps, and addresses. The
directory was named "The Photo Address Book" but was popularly
called "The Facebook." It is still an integral part of Exeter’s social
adaptation program. In Zuckerberg’s graduation year all th directry
information was moved into digital space. Today there is almost no
doubt that the idea of a powerful social network was being ripened
in the future billionaire’s mind during his school days. One February
day, in 2004, the idea was turned into reality. In about a year, Facebook had 11 million users. Nine months later, Zuckerberg opened it
up to everyone. Facebook became a perfect environment for relationships, information exchange and advertising.
The Italian blogger and researcher Vincenzo Cosenza created
the world map of social network and Facebook’s blue color is predominant. In 115 out of 132 countries Facebook is the undoubted
leader. This means that public attention across much of the globe is
concentrated on Facebook, and that brands worldwide work to find
ways to attract this attention.
Geocell developed an effective strategy to manage its social
platform. A team of marketing and public relations specialists was
formed to meet the modern challenges of telecommunication. One
of the team members, Vako Kvachakhia, is the administrator of the
company’s official Facebook page. It is he who answers your questions, posts everyday news and makes communication with your
company easier.

Internet is a new means of telecommunication. It is very fast. This
form of human interaction on the internet is new as well. It happens
in an instant.
It is easy to create a group in a social network. However, it is not
easy to create a group and inspire people to follow it.
If some internet users respond positively, then others will fol-
low. That is why the dizzying development of social networks has
revived an old means of marketing communication - reference.
Anyone who recommends a brand to a friend becomes part of its
advertising and strengthens its reference echo.
How can we use social network and its services to cause action,
reaction and transaction? The answer is easy: listen to the user.
As Vako notes, "Facebook is an ideal tool to find out what your
customer wants and likes and what he or she expects in a fast and
easy way. It is a quick system that shows customer preferences.
We analyze the gathered data and consider it when planning future
projects. Our brand is present on every popular social platform
such as Youtube, Twitter and Facebook. If you are on any one of
those, you will be able to receive information about our company."
In the modern world people expect information to come to them.
That is why the future of business is in socialization - a new type
of relationship where the customer influences others and spreads
information himself. Well-known terms of social network including "share", "like", "comment","add" and others give strength to
the social tsnami wave that starts in one place and, thanks to us,
spreads across the entire network.
No customer will become a loyal customer of the brand if the
only thing that is expected of him or her is "like." Geocell’s strategy is built on maximum user involvement. "Like" is just a first step
through which you express your trust. It starts a process of building
effective communication between you and the company. This is a

social platform where everybody is on the same page and creates
the same picture. But the more of us there are, the more interesting
and diverse the picture will be.
Geocell’s activity in social networking started with a photo exhibition called Lilac May. The participants of the contest presented
photos with the color lilac in them. The representatives of the company took the details characteristic to the company and put them
together in a visual memory game that was named Déjà vu. Its winner was revealed every week and received free talking minutes and
other prizes. The most popular, however, was another special project. Geocell united the fans of the Georgian basketball team, that
participated in the EuroBasket last summer. The lilac ball started its
journey in Georgia changing hands and gathering positive energy
which was taken to Klaipeda where our team played.
At this stage, two projects are happening on the company’s official Facebook page. Geocell invites the fans of the music show
Geostar to virtually visit the set behind the scenes. Invite your friend
to participate in the "behind the scenes" application and receive a
special pass that will take you and your friends behind the scenes of
Geostar where you will have an opportunity to talk to Geostar participants.
If you want to become popular and express your creative talent,
you can travel with us into the future. Within the framework of the
project "2021" you have an opportunity to create a minute-long
video showing how you traveled into the future. The author of the
best video will receive presents related to the theme.
If you are not the brand’s friend on Facebook then find the company Geocell in the social network and you will see how many common friends you have. If their number is more than six it means that
you are connected to Vako through common friends. You see how
small the world is?!

Magic on Winter Nights
and the Christmas Tale of
the Nutcracker
By Irina Bagauri
Northern countries such as Germany can have long, cold,
and gray winters. But not on Christmas when people decorate their houses, streets, and Christmas trees so beautifully, and bake incredibly delicious Christmas cakes like
baumkuchen!
This cold, yet inviting Christmas setting is one that is often
found in the so-called “winter works” of literature. Some of the
most famous include Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” and Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. But perhaps the most magnificent of
all is Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann’s Christmas tale The
Nutcracker. This is a story written two centuries ago about an
ugly nutcracker given to young Marie as a Christmas present
by her godfather Drosselmeier. The girl falls in love with the doll
and at night helps him defeat the king of the mice after which
the spell he is under breaks and the Nutcracker turns into a
handsome prince.
The story has numerous interpretations. The original version
by Hoffmann has a sullen Nutcracker in it and enough tragedy
and dark magic to bring chills to those reading it. Alexandre
Dumas turned it into a kind of holiday book. At the end of the
19th century, one of the most legendary figures of the classical
ballet, Marius Petipa, who worked at the court of the Russian
Emperor, decided to make a two-part ballet using Dumas’ version of the tale.
According to the choreographer, the ballet created for Emperor Alexander III was intended to be an entertaining and joyful play. Petipa tasked Pyotr Tchaikovsky with the accompanying melodies. But, against the choreographer’s wishes, the

beautiful music of The Nutcracker, especially its finale, is full of
tragedy (some think the reason for this is Tchaikovsky’s painful
departure from childhood). Still, despite its sometimes gloomy
music, The Nutcracker has become one of the world’s most
well-loved and popular ballets – a staple of any city’s Christmas celebration.
But surprisingly this ballet was not well-received on it’s opening night in 1892. At the Marinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg,
melodies such as the “Waltz of the Flowers” and the “Dance
of the Sugar Plum Fairy” were given poor reviews. However,
over time, The Nutcracker gained a large following and now
has been performed on the world’s most prestigious theatre
stages – attracting such famous choreographers as Lopukhov,
Vaionen, Balanchine and Neumeier.
Dumas’ version was not the only one to make it to the ballet stage. Hoffmann’s dark and gloomy original story was first
staged by Rudolf Nuriev in Berlin and then in the legendary
Garnier Opera in Paris. In the Parisian play, Hoffmann’s young
girl Marie is called Clara (just like in modern cartoons based
on The Nutcracker) and her last name is not Stahlbaum, but
Silberhaus. She is not a cheerful and untroubled girl as in Dumas’ verstion (and Petipa’s ballet), but rather lives in a gloomy
environment, has nightmares and is tortured by love. Hoffmann
interest in occultism may have played a part in this version’s
dark fantasy. According to literary critics, it is his works that influenced such great classical writers as Edgar Allan Poe, Honore de Balzac, Gogol and Dostoevsky. Nuriev’s take on Hoffman’s story is aptly choreography full of horror, dark emotions,
and mystery, and is the closest to the original version of the
fairytale.
However, for children, Dumas’ version of The Nutcracker remains a magical fairytale and today you will be hard pressed
to find a ballet stage that does not present The Nutcracker for
Christmas, including Georgia.
But Georgians have perhaps a little more appreciation for
the beautiful ballet. Tchaikovsky’s favorite city was Tbilisi, and
it was in Tbilisi that he wrote part of The Nutcracker’s music.
In fact, Tchaikovsky took a little bit of Georgia with him when
he created his music. The “Arab Dance” is the Georgian lullaby

(Kartl-Kakhetian) that Tchaikovsky must have heard while in
Georgia.
Georgians were initially quite angry that Tchaikovsky called
the popular Georgian lullaby the “Arab Dance,” and even today, when the Arab dolls (in Grigorovich’s version Indian dolls)
come on to the stage, and the melody starts to play, everybody
becomes unusually quiet for a Tbilisi audience.
But still, you will not find a vacant seat at The Nutcracker at
the Tbilisi Opera Theatre, which plays one of the most impressive versions of this ballet – the one created by Grigorovich for
the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, with scene and costume designer Soliko Virsaladze.
The Nutcracker was actually brought to Georgia by Grigorovich himself to honor his Georgian friend and partner Soliko
Virsaladze on his 90th birthday. Virsaladze’s main work was
in theatre; however at times he worked in the cinema arts as
well. But his true passion was classical ballet, and as a child
he attended the Tbilisi Choreographic School to learn the art
of dance.
The Nutcracker by Virsaladze-Grigorovich, in its original
form, has been running in the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow for a
record length of time – since 1966, and it is said that the lion’s
share of the show’s success belongs to Soliko’s scenery. Everything in her Nutcracker is magic: the stick and big-nose mask
of godfather Drosselmeier, the boat hanging in the air, and the
Christmas tree toys. Even the portraits hanging on the walls of
the Stahlbaums’ house bear the humorous and touching characteristics of Soliko’s designs.
And when Marie’s Indian doll, with her long woven hair and
silver dress, comes to life and starts dancing to a Georgian
lullaby, she looks so much like a Georgian that you completely
forget her costume’s Arabic-Indian origin and she is, for a moment, Georgian just like the song she dances to.
Christmas is the most beautiful holiday and even though
the Christmas Star is often not visible in the dark skies of the
northern countries, children know that something extraordinary happens over the holidays that turn the cold and dark into
something wonderful. It was two hundred years ago that the
ugly Nutcracker turned into a handsome prince.

New Year Books
Reading by the fireplace might be old-fashioned. But when you
don’t feel like sleeping or taking a walk, and simply want to read
a book on a cold day in a warm spot and drink tea with lemon or
sip on a glass of red wine, being near a fireplace is the best spot.
So, let’s sit down at the symbolic fireplace - even if it is a modern gas or heating device and enjoy an open-book. Or, I suppose, in the modern world, a kindle, or a computer is more likely.
So, let’s turn on or crack open a book.
But what kind of books should a person read during holidays?
From my own experience and by gathering the opinions of others, the following is the literature which is often described as the
literature for children and adults alike. However, there is a time
for this type of literature, even if it is something that might childish. And the holidays are such a time.
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
You will not meet Santa Clauses and Snow Whites here, but
this book is devoted to making come true. Who exactly is Huckleberry? He is the collective face of every child floating down the
huge river of life by raft, taking along a lot of different people on
his way. With passing years, there are the inevitable obstacles
to overcome to have a free and happy life. Masterly described,
Twain creates a series of amazing scenes and characters so well
described and arranged that you will not come across anything
extra here. Twain sends the message that dreams don’t have to
be about golden palaces. A dream can come true lying in a field,
smoking a pipe and telling your friend, a runaway slave, who is
sitting beside you, "Listen here, Jim!"

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
The child in each of us wants a small, white rabbit with a watch
running past, luring us into a magical world of tea parties with
madmen and talking flowers. In Carroll’s world, you can do
things that you could not even imagine - shrink down to the size
of a pea in a second, or grow to the size of a giant the next. It is
about leaving your body, and overcoming death - a book that
is almost indescribable it is so full of the odd, and bizarre. And
while you can watch many adaptations of Alice’s Adenvtures in
Wonderland on DVD, be sure that without the book, your experience in Alice’s magical world will be lacking.
Moominland Midwinter by Tove Jansson
Although trolls and trolling have acquired absolutely different
meanings for those involved in Internet hooliganism, we’d better
stick to old, traditional trolls while sitting in front of a fireplace. In
Scandinavian mythology, trolls are supernatural creatures who, as
a rule, are quite hostile towards people. But Tove Jansson, a woman writer who is considered to be the successor to famous fairy tale
writer, Hans Christian Andersen, shows the world a quite different
sort of troll. This book is the fifth in the series of Tove Jansson’s
Moomin’s books and is designed for reading in winter.
While the rest of the Moomin family is in the deep slumber of
their winter hibernation, Moomintroll finds himself awake and
unable to get back to sleep - this is how his adventure starts,
with new friends and a lot of interesting stories. This story is also
about overcoming xenophobia - when a creature like a troll becomes so close to us, it is difficult not to overcome a fear or hatred of strangers.

The Adventures of Salamura by Archil Sulakauri
This is probably the best Georgian literary fairy tale to date.
Many of us probably remember its animated adaptation, rather
than the book. But the brilliant phantasmagoria with clear allegories and magic moods will take you away to the fantastical
Kondareti and make the book a worthy read. When a lazy prince
expressed a desire to play with the beautiful firefly, Baia, she was
forcibly taken to him. In order to help Baia, Salamura must overcome many obstacles to save her. The many characters in the
book - the First Vizier with a big nose, false beauty Frinta, and
capricious Kondarukhi - that bring it to life. The book, beautifully
written, has mysterious stories and secrets, that are so captivating that reading about them is enough, and solving them is
secondary. The book’s charm is like the celebration of the New
Year - you never understand completely what you are celebrating because you are never sure what is next.

"It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than
at Christmas," Charles Dickens writes in A Christmas Carol,
which remains a favorite since it was first published in December 1843. It restored the forgotten Christmas traditions
in Europe, especially in Britain, and took its place among the
50 books that have changed the world.
And what kind of story can change the world? Sometimes,
one with absolute sincerity can do it - such as one in which
kindness wins, Christmas miracles happen, and even the
cold heart of the sour and stingy Scrooge returns to the
warmness and virtue of his childhood.
In April 2005 and November 2007 the world celebrated two
important dates for two of the world’s most well-known story
tellers. First, the city of Odense, Denmark was host to the

ing children across the globe, both Andersen and Lindgren
are among the most widely-translated authors in the world
(Andersen is the eighth most translated author, and Lindgren
the twentieth). But there is one lesser known fact that joins
these two famous authors: They are both from Scandinavia.
Scandinavia - mystic-real Lapland, Northern deer, the Arctic
Circle and white nights - something that makes Scandinavia as attractive for pop-tourism, as for esoteric mythology.
Santa Claus can serve as an example for the first, especially
as Scandinavia was chosen as his motherland by western
culture and who is believed to be an archetype of spiritual
cleanness; while esoteric mythology recognized the North
Pole as the place of the God and supernatural people, the
place, which is beyond the North and cannot be localized on
the map.
Many fantastic things happen within the framework of the
mystical northern map where the real lives of story tellers
inspire fantastical fairy tales. In the 19th century Andersen
writes in a letter, "My muse visits me, tells me strange fairy
tales, fetches me comical figures from daily life, aristocrats
and commoners, and says: ‘Look at those people, you know
them, depict them and — they shall live!’" And it is this combination of real and mystic that "The Steadfast Tin Soldier,"
"The Snow Queen," The Tinderbox," "The Emperor’s New
Clothes," and "The Ugly Duckling" were written in a way that
needed no illustrations. From the great fairy-tale writer we
were introduced to the steadfast and courageous tin soldier, and the loving and devoted Gerda, and the directness
and fairness of a child in "The Emperor’s New Clothes." The
world would have been much less interesting without "The
Ugly Duckling," about an duck, not accepted by his family,

For his exceptional works, two literary awards have been
created in Andersen’s name. The Hans Christian Andersen
Literature Award is a Danish literary award established in
2010 and is given to a living author whose work resembles
Andersen’s. It has one of the largest purses among literary
prizes with the winner receiving Kr 500,000. The Hans Christian Andersen Award (sometimes known as the "Nobel Prize
for Children’s Literature") has been given to authors since
1956 and to illustrators since 1966 in recognition of a "lasting contribution to children’s literature."
In 1958, Astrid Lindgren won the Hans Christian Anderen
Literature Award, and more than 40 years later (in 2002), had
a prize established in her name that currently totals SEK 5
million.
Astrid Lindgren was five years old when her mother first
read her Andersen’s "Little Claus and Big Claus." Lindgren
at the time probably did not expect that later she would write
such books, and that they would become favorites for children and the adults throughout the world. Like Andersen,
Lindgren also published her first book at a later age - before the age of 30 and 40, respectively, both Andersen and
Lindgren used the traditional methods of creating fairy tales:
storytelling.
Before she put pen to paper, Astrid Lindgren would tell
stories to her ailing daughter about Pippi Longstocking. It
wasn’t until Lindgren slipped on the icy streets of Stockholm and, laid up with a broken leg, she began to write her

daughter’s favorite story down as a birthday present. Her
daughter persuaded Lindgren to send the book to a publishing house, and this is how the world got acquainted with
Pippi Longstocking. The gift made for her daughter became
a gift for a world of children.
But this was not Lindgren’s only gift. Her other well-known
series about the mischievous Karlsson, who lives on the roof
of "a very ordinary apartment building, on a very ordinary
street in Stockholm," became well-known across the globe,
especially in Russia.
And be it Pippi, Karlsson, Emil of Lönneberga, Ronia the
robber's daughter, the Bullerby children or the children living on Seacrow Island, they all enrich the everyday lives of
children and parents alike. "If I have managed to brighten
up even one gloomy childhood - then I’m satisfied," Astrid
Lindgren said. Actually, she brightened up millions of children. Along with her classic tales in books, her characters
still represent a part of children’s pop-culture - in the form of
cartoons, plays, toys, kids’ calendars or clocks.
Andersen’s and Lindgren’s rich imaginations, frank empathy with children, their youthfulness at heart, and their love
have highlighted Scandinavia as a miraculous, and mystical
land. But for their characters there are no geographical borders. Their influence is boundless.
So, accept the gift from these wizards of fairy tales have so
generously given, and your heart will melt like that of Kay’s
in "The Snow Queen." And it will not be bad at all that you are
an adult on Christmas Day.

Like all holidays, Christmas has its own unique smells, tastes,
and sounds. A wonderful feeling swells inside us with the aroma of tangerines, cakes with cinnamon, and Glühwein, as if a
miracle is going to happen quite soon. It is a feeling from our
childhood - a fantastical day we have been anxiously awaiting
with the first signs of winter since we were small. Some are happy to decorate a Christmas tree at home, some expect Santa
Claus and gifts shared with family, while others simply need a
reason to realize their dreams.
And for some people their holiday dreams are not found at
their home address, but rather far away, where there are different traditions and different rules for celebrating the holiday
season. They want to experience new feelings in new places.
When they start looking places to go, they find that most travel
agencies suggest trips to Paris, Dubai or Egypt. But we think
there are more interesting places one can spend winter holidays.
We start with Finland. If Santa Claus spares no effort to visit
us every year, why shouldn’t we visit him at least once? While

previously many people believed that Lapland was an imaginary place, now it can be said for sure that Santa has a real
house, located in the northern part of Finland, in the vicinity
of the Russian border. One can get there from Rovaniemi by
bus in about 30 minutes. The place has a strange name - Korvatunturi - while the village is simply called the Santa Claus
Village. Santa’s house is located on a small hill surrounded by
forests. The gnomes, living in these forests, help Santa deliver
Christmas gifts. Since the majority of people cannot see them,
adults call the Santa Claus Village an entertainment park, and
on some level they are correct. But regardless of its name, you
will have a brilliant time. You will first visit Santa’s house and see
Santa’s magical box over the fireplace - the content of which is
unknown to anyone, as Santa always keeps its key to himself.
Then you can visit Santa’s Workshop, or enjoy the traditional
reindeer-driven sleigh ride. And what is most important, you
can leave a letter for Santa in his postbox. You can be sure in
Korvatunturi that the addressee will definitely receive your letter.
There is one more place in Lapland, offering what is probably
the most beautiful Christmas landscape in the world. This is the
city of Tromsø, "The Capital of Arctic" and "Paris of the North"
in northern Norway, where you can spend a real Scandinavian
Christmas. You can do everything here that you dreamed of doGEOCELL . Winter 2011-2012

ing in your childhood. You can enjoy dog sledding in the snow,
and seeing islands and fjords scattered in the sea. And, starting from 6 p.m., you can view the northern lights (aurora borealis) from a jacuzzi on a hotel roof - an unforgettable feeling,
worth experiencing during your Christmas holiday.
For religious people, Rome is the place to go for the Christmas holiday. The Catholics celebrate Christmas beautifully - in
a way felt all over the city. Attending a Catholic Mass in one
of the Roman cathedrals will be an unforgettable event. The
Christmas holiday is the best time to visit this ancient city - a
period of the year when the smell of roasted chestnuts is everywhere and you can taste Biscotti at the Christmas fairs in the
squares.
However, for those more interested in the cultural aspects of
the Christmas season, Tokyo is the place to go. At first, it might
be a strange phenomenon to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ
in the "Land of the Rising Sun," but the Japanese people enjoy
celebrating holidays too. Kurisumasu, Japanese Christmas, is
celebrated in the streets with decorated artificial fir trees. The
country has its own original traditions. You will be offered fried
chicken and strawberry cake as the main Christmas dishes.
And you will find here that Christmas is more romantic, rather
than a religious or children’s holiday - akin to Valentine’s Day.

continent for snow-loving gourmands. This city is especially
beautiful during Christmas - it is completely illuminated and
decorated with fir trees and other Christmas decorations. In
most cases, a Quebec Christmas is a snowy one, and is host
to old European traditions along with the most sophisticated
and delicious food. When we look through a Christmas menu
in Quebec, it becomes clear why this city has turned into one
of the favorite Christmas cities for Americans. Mushrooms in
cream and bilberry sauce, meat pies with spices, cream cakes
cooked in golden sugar, and of course, the famous Quebec cider and local whisky lure people from the most remote countries.
If you are bored with snow during Christmas, the capital of
Argentina is the place for you. Temperatures are high in Buenos
Aires in December - it is summer here and you will not have to
spend the New Year sitting at a fireplace. Instead, you will walk
along the La Plata embankment, visit calm cafes, and dance a
tango. And if the warmth is not still enough, you can leave for
Havana up north, where you can have a Cuban cigar, mojito,
and salsa in the evenings. When you appear on the sunny Caribbean islands in the morning, you may forget about the existence of Santa Claus, and you simply may not care about any
of the gifts.

Virtual museums started in the 90s. Also called online,
electronic, digital and web museums, they were initially
very technically simple. Eventually, with the support of
growing user interest, they evolved into the impressive
and educational draws so many of them are today.
One of the first virtual museums is the Web Museum,
Paris (http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/), created by Nicolas Pioch. Based on today’s standard’s Pioch’s virtual
museum tour looks quite primitive in both its form and
content. But its two main features do offer some visuals
that might be interesting to the user. The first, is a biography of Paul Cézanne, including visuals of his works.
The other notable feature on the site is that it allows you
to see the major parts of Paris by taking either a virtual

You should definitely visit the Museum of the History
of Science, Oxford, where you will discover a section
dedicated to online exhibits. Here you can virtually view
a selection of exhibitions at the museum. The site tells
you, for example, that there is an exhibition on time machines that will last through April 15. It also gives you
background information via video on available exhibits
such as the lecture explaining the time machine exhibit
delivered by Pedro Ferreira, a professor of astrophysics
at the University of Oxford. A sample of current exhibitions includes the following: Eccentricity; Compass and
Rule; Astrolabes of Africa, East and West; Science in Islam; Wireless World; Titan; The Most Noble Problem in
Nature; Cosmography.
We have mentioned the sphere of science and therefore we cannot neglect the London Science Museum
(www.sciencemuseum.org.uk). About 3 million people
visit it every year. And while not a virtual museum per
say, it has a great deal of background on its exhibitions
via video, games you can play, and tools on its site directed toward youth education. The Science Museum

WebExhibits (http://www.webexhibits.org) is a virtual museum covering the spheres of science and
culture with exhibits on everything from the causes of
color to the history of butter. It is up to the visitor how
to use the site. For example, a visitor can choose one
of several pigments in which to view a world famous
work of art. This playful element is part of the site’s
dedication to making education interesting and fun.
The user can make a theme more vivid, cheerful and
interesting. Most important is that the user will have
the opportunity to see which particular pigment was
used in a particular period. For example, what pigment was popular in the middle ages is a question
answered by this educational tool – especially interesting for those involved in art and art history. On the
site you can also see the works of Giovanni Bellini, get
comprehensive information about classical and new
poetic forms, and get acquainted with the letters with
sketches by Vincent van Gogh. The museum also has

Let me also briefly mention Google’s new initiative,
the Google Art Project (www.googleartproject.com).
Although it was put into operation not even a year
ago, on February 1, 2011, it is a very popular way to
virtually view museums from around the world. Google enables people, who cannot afford to visit the museums of Paris and Italy, to take a walk down the halls
of famous museums without even leaving their homes
using high resolution to make each work all that much
more real. And representatives from Google say that
the website’s quality and content will only increase.
Through this display console, you can view, for example, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum, the Museum of
Modern Art in New York City (MoMA), the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Museo Reina
Sofia in Madrid, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in
New York, the Palace of Versailles in Versailles, the
State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, and the National
Gallery and Tate Britain in London. You can view most
interesting exhibits in details, so enjoy the opportunity to view some of the world’s most famous works.

tors, and teachers. The signs of the Earth element – Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn – will get important opportunities for development. Also, in the second half of the year, fortune will smile upon
the air element signs – Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. For Scorpios,
the year 2012 will tend to be difficult.
Although the Year of the Dragon always is a leap-year, in Chinese astrology it is still believed to be a happy year. We should
greet this year with optimism. In 2012, Pluto (due to its position
in Capricorn) will promote purpose and responsibility. It requires
politicians to focus on communication with the people. Uranus, a
surprise-loving planet, proceeding from its position in Aries, will
promote changes in all of the spheres. In the first half of the year,
Pluto will promote the settlement of material problems; in the
second half, it will expand its information area and remove all relationship borders. Before early July, the position of Mars in Virgo
will make everyone keenly aware of their health problems. It will
demand everyone observe order and cleanliness while working,
and will bring success to those who are industrious.
How to Meet the Year of the Dragon
2012 - The Year of
the Dragon
By Mikheil Tsagareli
The Black Water Dragon will pick up the baton from the Cat/
Rabbit on January 23, 2012. By its nature, the Dragon represents
fire, but this time it represents water. Hence, this year will host
features typical for the both elements. This unity signals resistance is waiting for us in the coming New Year. Mankind will likely
have to overcome obstacles and dangers in order to be reborn
like the Phoenix, and find success. The direct and uncompromising Dragon does not like double-dealing and double games, so
honesty will win its favor.
The year 2012 will also have the strongest energetic charge among
the 12 zodiac signs. Unlike the Cat/Rabbit, the Dragon is always
ready for a fight. This mythological animal likes to collect and defend treasures, though its greatest strength is found in its emotions.
Therefore, the year 2012 requires more patience and restraint with
relationships. As a result of the Dragon’s influence, the aspiration for
power will be intensified in 2012, but only truly strong leaders will gain
or maintain power. At the same time, this year is a time for you to
guide others, but without encouraging dependence.
In the first half of the year, it would be wise to demonstrate honesty and decency in financial affairs. During the same period, be
sure to complete all your projects. In June, Jupiter, the planet of
victory, will move to Gemini and bring a lot of interesting information, meetings and negotiations.
Do not stay at home for a long time in the second half of the
year; be active, travel, and make new acquaintances (that you will
then learn from). This year is ideal for journalists, writers, transla-
The Black Water Dragon will start its rule on January 23, 2012
and end before February 10, 2013. Acts of kindness, forgiveness
and reconciliation are extremely important during the Year of the
Dragon. Give your love to the world, and the world will definitely
return this love and happiness to you. You should meet the New
Year as joyfully as possible, with a large group of people, noisy
and rhythmic music, dancing, surprises, and humor. Those who
meet the New Year alone, should not be distressed; your solitude
will end soon. A couple of minutes before the New Year comes,
thank the previous Year of the Cat/Rabbit and think of all the good
things that have come to pass in 2011.
Water is the ruling element of 2012; therefore, there should be
a lot of sea products on your New Year’s table such as fish, mollusks, and sea cabbage. The greater the variety of dishes places
on your table with images of fish, sea or water, the better. Meat
products will also be welcome at this year’s feast. Serve your
meal with light green or yellow candles because, along with water, fire is also a favorite of the Dragon. Try to ensure that your
New Year’s tree is a real fir-tree with a symmetrical shape; do not
over-decorate.
As far as clothes are concerned, the main color is black, but
in combination with other colors, such as green, gold, blue, orange and small amount of red (accessories should be the same
colors). Try to wear something sparkly on your clothes or in your
hair.
Remember, the more gifts you present during the New Year, the
more stable your finances will be in the coming year. To avoid financial problems, do not take out the garbage on December 31.
The New Year is also a time to forgive and forget. Just before the
New Year comes, you can light a candle (or you can go without),
and think of a dream you want to come true. You can write this
dream on paper, burn it, put it in the glass full of champagne and
drink it; this will double the chance of your dreams coming true.
The New Year always brings new hope; therefore, mobilize your
efforts to ensure that the holiday passes splendidly and wonderfully in order to make the next year beautiful and happy. Do not
forget that the Dragon is the animal which gives wealth, nobleness, harmony and longevity to people.
