Choosing the right
walk-behind Mower
The first step to a great looking lawn is choosing the right
lawn mower. Consider the various options and features
available at Lowe’s and choose the mower that is right
for you and your lawn. The size and terrain of your lawn
and the number and kinds of obstacles you have to mow
around will all play a part in your choice.
Walk-behind mowers are either self-propelled or push
type. Self-propelled gas mowers are available in both
front-wheel drive (FWD) and rear-wheel drive (RWD)
designs. Push mowers are available in gas-powered,
electric-powered or manual reel designs. Cutting decks
have similar cutting widths and many models convert
easily from mulching to bagging to side discharge.

Cutting Decks
Drive systems reduce mowing time and alleviate operator fatigue
while mowing larger lawns or hilly, rough terrain. Systems are either
front-wheel (FWD) or rear-wheel (RWD) drive.
Many cutting decks are 2-N-1 or 3-N-1 convertible, changing
easily from bagging to mulching to side discharge. Rear bagging is
preferred, as it better manages the weight of clippings. Rear bagging
also makes it easier to maneuver around trees and planting beds.
Deck designs have come a long way, with the increased popularity
of mulching. The inner shape of the cutting deck dome has been
fine-tuned to maximize the effect of mulching blades.

Change Oil
• Check oil level regularly: fill to mark on dipstick
DO NOT OVERFILL
• Change oil after first 5 hours of use, then after every
50 hours or at the beginning of the season

original parts, more often under dusty conditions
• Changing your air filters assures optimum performance
