School Values
Please remember Thursday 3 December 2015 is our End of Year Celebration Concert.
In response to parent requests we are planning to have our picnic tea outside on the
lawn area in front of LA 2 building, weather permitting and the concert under the COLA
between the library and the gym. The canteen will be offering hamburgers and a
sausage sizzle on the night (a separate form was sent out Wednesday). This will be a
fun filled evening for families. In order to maintain a child friendly environment this will be
an alcohol free event. A concert programme will be available on the night.
Children’s University Graduation
Last Wednesday evening our 9 students graduating
from the Children’s University program were
presented with their certificate at Bonython Hall at
Adelaide University. It was a prestigious occasion with
the Vice Chancellor making the presentations followed
by a barbecue on the grounds of the University. To
‘graduate’ in 2015 the students undertook at least 30
hours of learning activities outside of school and got
these stamped on their ‘learning passport’. The
program was available to our Year 3s and 4s this year and will be extended to include
year 5s next year. This was our first year of participation and we have learnt how to
better access many of the activities and next year will look to share after school activities
with the other local schools taking part. Thanks to the Year 3 and 4 teachers Ashley,
Andrea and Ann for their support and special thanks to Ivan for providing the ‘Paper
Plane engineering’ workshops and coordinating the graduation requirements and Paul
for linking with the University
New Receptions orientation visit
It was great to have our 65 new Receptions for 2016 enjoy their first Orientation visit last
Friday. They enjoyed some activities with Rosie, Vicki and Kelly while their parents had
an information session. Their next visit will be Friday 4 December where they will spend
time with their next year’s class and teacher.
‘Moving Up’ Day
Monday of Week 9 (December 7) is our ‘Moving Up’ Day where the students will visit
their next year’s class to meet their teacher and see who’s in their class. They will also
get their reports and class placement letter to bring home. We hope to have all new
teachers in place by then to let students know although they may not all be able to be
here on the day if they are currently in another school.

Pupil Free Day
Staff will be using the final Pupil Free Day for 2015 to analyse student achievement data
to assist in planning for 2016. Teachers will analyse the Literacy & Numeracy data from
the raft of testing done throughout the year for this year’s students as well as their next
year’s class. They will also meet to pass on student details between teachers. This year
we will also be continuing our development of whole school agreements on everything
from homework and communication with parents to how literacy is taught. Staff have
found this to be a very useful day in previous years, to begin the process of planning for
the next year.

Instrumental Music Lessons 2016
In 2016, there will be the opportunity for students in
Year 3 and Year 4 to learn a stringed instrument.
Instruments being offered are Violin, Viola, Double
Bass and Cello. Group lessons are provided free of
charge by a DECD Instrumental Music Teacher.
Instruments and Books are available for hire
through the school at a cost of $100 per year.
Following the first year of tuition, students have
the opportunity to join the school string
ensemble.
Before deciding to learn an instrument, it is
important to consider whether your child has
the time to commit to playing an instrument. There
is an expectation that each student will practice at
least four times per week and will perform at the
activities organized.
Please return the slip below or email

Library News
What a busy time of the year this is in the Library.
Teachers have been returning resources a plenty
and many of the children have been borrowing for
the last time for the year. We have really
appreciated the many families who have been
hunting about the house for the ‘lost books’ that
have finally made their way back to us. Last day for
borrowing is Friday 27 November and all books
must be back by Friday 4 December.

Canteen News
Just a reminder that the canteen will not be taking
any lunch orders (due to a high volume of children
being on excursions and class parties) in the last
week of school however they will be open during
lunchtime only for children to buy snacks, ice
blocks etc.
On Thursday 3 December, 5.30pm to 6.15pm at the
End of Year Celebration the canteen will be offering
hamburgers (beef or veg) , sausages, drinks and
ice blocks. An order form went home on
Wednesday or you pick one up from the front office.
Thank you for your continuing support

Speeding Around the School
We still have parents speeding along Margaret Ave
at drop off and pick up times which is putting
students at risk. We have been advised by council
to take down offender’s registrations numbers and
report them to the authorities.
SAPSASA REPORT
Beach Volleyball
Last week 13 teams went to Glenelg Beach to play
in the SAPSASA Beach Volleyball competition. The
students were from years 4 – 7. It was pretty windy
at Glenelg so it took a little while to adjust to the
conditions. Serving was especially tricky, but all
teams worked it out and played good volleyball and
worked well as a team.
Seven teams made it through to the semi finals,
and two of those teams made it through to the
Grand Final. The 6/7 Girls had a tough match and
lost by 1 point in extra time. This team has played
great volleyball together in many tournaments over
the past few years. Well done girls on winning the
Silver Medal.
The 6/7 Boys had a good match and went through
undefeated! The boys played very well all day and
worked well as a team. Well done boys on a great
competition and for winning the Gold Medal.
teams and just missing finals etc and how she
worked hard to overcome them.
We would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to
Sally for giving up her time to talk to our students –
they loved it! Also, thank you to Nikki Amato
(Sienna’s mum) for organising Sally’s visit.
Sally has written a book called “Born to Swim” and
we will cheer her on at the Olympic trials next April
at Marion Aquatic Centre!
Sally showed some of her medals and many
students took the opportunity to have a close look
and try them on!
Final SAPSASA 2015
AFL 9s
Earlier this term our school was invited by Flinders
Uni students to compete in their annual AFL 9s
competition. This was the first time we have been
involved and it was a great day. Two boy’s teams
and two girls’ team of year 5, 6 and 7 students
competed in the carnival. All of the teams played
really well and showed great football skills and good
sportsmanship.
Out of the 4 teams the younger girl’s teams won
their pool and the older boys’ team won their pool.
Well done to all the teams!
Olympian Visit
Earlier this term we were lucky enough to have
Sally Hunter visit our school. She talked to the
students at a special assembly about her swimming
career. Sally has competed in the last 2 Olympic
Games and 3 Commonwealth Games. Her talk was
inspiring to the students and staff, and was also
entertaining and interesting about ‘Life at the
Olympic Village.’ Sally also spoke about the
challenges she has faced in being selected in
As we complete another very busy SAPSASA and
Sports year at Paringa Park I would like to thank a
few groups of people:
 To all the students who give up lunch times,
before or after school times, (lesson times) to
train, tryout and compete in events –WELL
DONE!
You
have
been
outstanding
representatives of our school in your behaviour,
sportsmanship and sporting skills. Without your
commitment and effort we wouldn’t have such a
great program for you to be a part of.
 To all the teachers, and Phil and the leadership
team, who encourage students to participate
and try out for events ... and let them come out
of lessons to train or compete ... a BIG THANK
YOU! Without your support of the SAPSASA
and other sport programs we wouldn’t be able to
offer such great opportunities for our students.
 To the very important parents of our students ...
the very BIGGEST THANK YOU! Throughout
the year you have coached, transported,
supported, scored, umpired, paid for, watched,
encouraged, etc. your child as they compete in a
wide range of sports. We are very lucky to have
such a supportive parent community, which
makes the whole program enjoyable for
everyone involved, and is a valuable part of your
child’s development.
Skipping Team News
Skippers have attended 2 major events recently, the State Championships and the opening of the Premier’s
Be Active reception. At both events the skippers excelled themselves.
Paringa Skippers became the Overall State Champions for the second year in a row at the competition. They
performed outstandingly well at both speed events and routines. In all of the teams events our skippers were
placed, and many came home with multiple medals.

At the Premier’s Be Active reception PPPS were invited to
showcase our Jump Rope for Heart team in front of the Premier,
Minister for Education and representatives from a range of SA
sporting teams. Our students were the headline performance and did
a brilliant job of impressing the 600 strong crowd. Kasey, Mabel,
Esme and Tori performed their Nationals routine, and the ‘A’ team did
their ‘Mama Mia’ routine. Both groups were wonderful ambassadors
for our school and the Heart Foundation.
