ello Etech! Welcome to the April, 2012 edition of the Etech newsletter. Jon Gordon’s
recent newsletter introduces a new positive tip, to attack each day with an enthusiasm
unknown to mankind. Mr. Gordon went on to explain that emotions are contagious.
Studies conducted by heartmath.org demonstrate that when you have a feeling in your heart it goes to
every cell in the body and outward. People as far as 10 feet away can sense feelings transmitted by your
heart via electromagnetic signals!
What this means is that every single day of your life you are projecting enthusiasm and passion ….or apathy
and indifference...and people all around you can feel it! Makes you really think, doesn’t it?
As Etech leaders, I encourage each of you to embrace this concept, and to commit to attacking each week
with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Emotions are contagious. If each of us embraces the week with
“an enthusiasm unknown to mankind” just imagine the positive impact that we can have at the Etech work
place, within our communities and with our customers!!
What does it take to attack with enthusiasm? Well, it does not take a college degree. It does not take a
super high IQ. It does not take special training. What it takes is a commitment to make the choice to be
enthusiastic … that is it, a daily choice that you make and you control.
I encourage each of you to make this choice each day with me! Etech’s future is now. Opportunities will
arise and your chance will come to make a difference. The question is “Will you be ready to attack with
enthusiasm?”
Thank you all for everything that you do to make Etech a great place to work and play. I am excited about
2012 and I look forward to helping Etech make a difference. Together we can improve our company, help
our customers, impact our communities and change lives for the better!
Until next month, may God bless each of you and may God continue to watch over our company.
Have a great day!

WORLD OF HR
CHANGES IN EMPLOYMENT STATUS
E
tech employees’ employment status may be changed due to failure to
adhere to a full time schedule, which is 30 hours or more. In the event
an employee fails to meet their schedule adherence requirements for
three (3) consecutive pay periods, the employee will be placed in a part-time
status. The employee will lose all PTO which has been accrued up to that
time and not earn more PTO until such time as they are reclassified as a
full-time employee. To return to a classified as full-time, the employee
must request to return to full-time and work three (3) consecutive pay periods
meeting the 60 hour requirements as a full-time employee before their status will be changed
to full-time and they again begin to accrue PTO.
Any questions an employee has regarding their employment status should be directed to their immediate
supervisor.

5 WAYS SLEEPING LESS MAKES YOU GAIN WEIGHT
P
eople always try different methods to reduce their excess weight by
sleeping less, doing more exercise, dieting etc. But a recent research has
established a direct relation between less sleep and weight gain. Here
are 5 ways by which sleeping less will make you gain weight.
Sleep Less, Burn Less
In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers had a group of men sleep for 12 hours a night but didn’t allow them to sleep the
next night, and then had them eat an opulent buffet the following morning. Then the researchers
measured the subjects’ energy expenditure—the calories you burn just by being. When the men were sleepdeprived, their general energy expenditure was 5 percent less than it was when they got a good night’s
sleep, and their post-meal energy expenditure was 20 percent less.
Sleep Less and Eat More
In research presented at the American Heart Association’s 2011 Scientific Sessions, it was shown that
women who got only 4 hours of sleep at night ate 329 additional calories the next day than they did after
they slept 9 hours. (Men ate 263 calories more.) In another study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 11 volunteers spent 14 days at a sleep center on two occasions. During one period, they slept
5.5 hours a night, and during the other, they slept 8.5 hours. When the subjects were sleep-deprived, they
increased their nighttime snacking and were more likely to choose high-carbohydrate snacks.
Sleep Less, Crave More
Sleeping very less affects the hormone levels to a significant extent. Insufficient sleep raises the levels of
Ghrelin, the hormone that tells you to eat. When it comes to weight gain and loss, this hormone plays a
leading role. Lack of sleep also lowers levels of Leptin. Leptin’s levels run high during the night, which tells
your body while you’re sleeping not to eat. Its levels drop during the day, when you need food as energy.
Sleep Less, Hang on to Fat
Lack of sleep may also affect the kind of weight you lose. In another study at the University of Chicago,
researchers followed 10 overweight but healthy subjects who were placed on a balanced diet, then observed
in two 14-day increments, one in which they got about 7.5 hours of sleep, and another in which they got 5
hours and 15 minutes. During both periods, the subjects lost an average of 6.6 pounds. But when they got
more sleep, they lost 3.1 pounds of fat, whereas during the short-sleep period, they lost only 1.3 pounds of
fat. Those who got more sleep reported less hunger, which makes sense: When they got enough sleep, their
Ghrelin levels stayed the same. On the 5-hour nights, their Ghrelin levels rose by 9 points.
Since Ghrelin also promotes the retention of fat, researchers theorize that a lack of sleep explains why the
non-sleepers held on to body fat. This happens because the diet-unfriendly hormone reduces the number of
calories you burn off and increases glucose production.
Sleep Less and Have more Time to Eat
It hasn’t been scientifically proven, but some experts believe that the 2 hours or more that we’re no longer
using to sleep is giving us another 2 hours to raid the fridge.

IMPACT OF PROACTIVE CHAT
ON CHAT VOLUME AND SALES
Proactive chat has been proven to increase conversion rates by as much as 20%
compared to purely reactive sales interactions. Businesses that offered proactive chat at crucial
points have witnessed higher conversion rates, revenue figures, and average order values.
- Jim Iyoob, Sr. Vice President, Etech Global Services
What is Proactive Chat?
P
roactive chat is when a website visitor is invited to
engage in a chat conversation either through manual
means or the use of an automated rules engine. These
chat invitations can be triggered either manually or automatically, and the form of the invitation itself can vary
widely. Invitations are generally in the form of a pop-up window and triggered by a variety of pre-determined criteria
ranging from abandoned shopping carts to a set of page
views, to the appearance of high-value customers.
Impact of Proactive Chat on Chat Volume and Sales
Before deployment of a proactive invitation solution, a
company should ensure they have chosen a technology that
provides enough control to alter key proactive triggers (like
timing) and doesn’t completely take over a web-page,
forcing the visitor to stop what they are doing.
Proactive Chat has been proven to increase
conversion rates by as much as 20% compared to
purely reactive sales interactions. It has also increased
the productivity of contact center agents by
decreasing handling time. The proactive rules needed
Our experience with Fortune 500 customers reveals some for increasing sales depends on your business goals.
of these facts:
Below are few examples of rules to increase sales:


Proactive chat acceptance rate can vary from 6 – 22%.
Repeat visitors are, on average, 10% more likely to
accept proactive invitations and take help from reactive
chat if required.
 On average, visitors that engage through proactive chat
are more likely to purchase than visitors who do not chat.
 Proactive chat implementation is most likely to increase
the chat volume by 40%.
A recent survey conducted by chat software company asked
consumers to rate their reaction to being proactively invited
on a 1 to 5 scale where 1 was “annoyed” and 5 was “happy to
know help is available”. Year after year, shopper receptiveness to this practice is on the rise. From 2010, the overall increase in receptiveness is 20%.






Shopping cart abandonment
Time spent on a page for a specific product
Total shopping cart value
Number of items in the shopping cart
Pages with opportunities to cross-sell
Pages with opportunities to up-sell
Proactive chat not only helps increase conversion rate
but also the average order value as well as shortening
the sales cycle. Offering proactive chat during the
order process may help improve conversion rates and
increase average order value (AOV) by 10% or more
when combined with a recommendation of related
items prior to checkout.
8
This results in improved customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. Leaving customers with key questions unanswered in
the process of making a purchase is the equivalent of providing them with a link to your competitor’s site.
Proactive chat helps you to be present and communicate at critical times in the purchase process and to resolve any
website errors.

VERIZON CONTESTS
N
o matter what month of the year it is, Verizon’s legacy
continues. As one of the promising teams, Verizon has
provided great contribution towards Etech’s success.
Several contests and activities were conducted, as usual, on the
floor encouraging team members to enjoy their work apart from
motivating them to give their best performance. The satisfaction
experienced by team members was apparent as they engaged
in one fun activity after another.
Daily and hourly gift contests based on sales and monthly cash
contests for the Top 25-30 performers at both the centers acted as catalysts
to drive a good
number of sales and maintain the momentum on the floor.
To ensure that no stone is left unturned, the gas pedal was hit in the last
5 days of the month to close it big. There were rewards in the form of cash,
vouchers and watches to be won everyday! The last 5 days even saw some
of the top performers cancel their leave requests due to the extreme
competition on the floor.
Additionally, to ensure the weekends were spent having fun and the team
doesn’t miss the life outside, exciting events and games were conducted
on the floor. Games like Passing the Parcel, wherein the losers would
sing, dance or mimic any personality of their choice was a great stress
buster. The environment was filled with laughter, cheer and awe. And all
this while taking chats! Goodies like soft-drink cans and chocolates to be won in hourly
contests and on the spot disclose sales contests always kept the fueling the energy.
Talk of never ending contests and its here! All in all, Verizon rocked again!
CARROM TOURNAMENT
C
arrom board is a fun filled table top game. Believed to have
originated in India hundreds of years ago, Carrom today is
amongst the world's favorite indoor games enjoyed
amongst friends and families. Etech always finds new ways to
keep its employees entertained and to create an entertaining and
a competitive atmosphere at work; Etech Gandhinagar
organized a Carrom Tournament for all its employees.
The competition really helped employees to spend some
quality time with their colleagues and relax at the same time.
Winners included Rushikesh Bhatt and our very own Gurudatt Medtia in male
doubles category; Aparna Jani and Ravi Pithadiya in female and male singles category,
respectively. A great pastime, some thrilling competition and a wonderful audience is what these budding
sports people could have asked for!

ACHIEVING MILESTONES - BCBS LAUNCH
B
lue Cross Blue Shield in partnership with Etech’s EMS vertical has launched their Quality Assurance
program this March. The launch was followed by a traditional cake cutting ceremony.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies have been leaders
in healthcare coverage for 83 years. Developed from a
grassroots approach to financing hospital and physician
services, Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies continue
to provide local leadership and solutions to promote
safe, high quality, and affordable care. Etech will
provide EMS services to BCBS for their click to chat
process with an objective of identifying areas in which
OCRs can maximize their sales effectiveness, campaign specific strengths & opportunities, maximize
chat effectiveness, share QA best practices. They are
committed to deliver and eventually exceed the
client’s expectations on this program. The US QA
team will be led by Quality Leader TI Joseph and we
look forward to achieve many such milestones
under his supervision.
Hearty congratulations to Anand Gangadharan, Asst Director – EMS; TI
Joseph, Quality Leader – EMS; Naresh Hemnani, Floor Trainer – L&D; Deira Wagner, Katharyn
Bush, QA’s - EMS on this program who invested their best practices, experiences, time and
efforts in setting up the entire QA process for BCBS. Thanks to the team and our client partner Julio
Rodriguez and Doug Butterfield for their continuous cooperation and throughout guidance.
L&D SIZZLES
T
he L&D Gandhinagar Team, this month, went on a
delicious lunch with Gurudatt Medtia, Director. It
was first such outing that the Training team went on
with their Director. The team gathered together after a long
time for a retreat like this one.
The venue was a famous sizzlers place in Ahmedabad. The
mouthwatering sizzlers, the sizzling sound, the pungent
seafood smell and to top it all, the sizzling brownie; all
contributed to a great afternoon! The team of Trainers
enjoyed the food and the conversations they had with Guru.
This gave them a chance to catch up with each other as well
which is a wee bit difficult at work. Truly, an afternoon well
spent!
13
WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION
A Woman is the Epitome of Tenderness, Care, and
Wisdom.
I
nternational Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8.
To celebrate the life of a woman and offer them the respect they
deserve, all female employees of Etech India had something
special to look forward to.
Etech Gandhinagar female employees were taken for a movie
and refreshments at a nearby
multiplex. And the event
was sponsored by all the male employees of the
center. Special thanks to the Transport Team for arranging the transport
so effortlessly. All of them enjoyed the movie and had a great time.
Etech Baroda female employees wasn’t far behind either. There was a
special get together arranged within the office premises for all the
women employees during which they went offline and bonded over
snacks and soft drinks. The entire earlier unseen affair was pretty
impressive especially to the new female joinees.
All this was just a small way to recognize and respect the role of
women at Etech and to thank them for everything they do! Three
cheers to the women of tomorrow!
ETECH'S SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
E
tech’s responsibility towards society has always been an inspiration for many organizations. This month witnessed Etech
Baroda organizing a Blood Donation event within the office
premises with the help of a local NGO – Friends’ Society.
Etech’s association with this social organization has been fairly long
and this time they presented us with a framed painting made by a
specially-abled child as a gift.
Apart from the being involved in blood donations, the Baroda tem
has always had an inclination towards environment protection and
creating awareness
to impede Global Warming. This month, a bunch of Verizon
team members along with some leaders headed towards the Gujarat
Nature Conservation Society on the outskirts of Baroda city, which is
trying to save a dry forest area from soil erosion and de-forestation.
Etech became a part of the plan to plant 400,000 plants within 2 years
and help prevent soil erosion of this land. The team members spent
hours digging pits for planting trees and plants. The idea was to have
at least 50,000 pits ready by the next monsoon. As a corporate,
Etech understands accountability fairly well. Not just to its customers but to the society at large too.
14
BARODA R&R
M
arch turned out to be full of great performances, skills enhancement and various highs and lows.
In a nutshell, this month happened to be better than the previous month in terms of close rate,
turnaround performance and CSAT, setting examples of excellent learning curves and some of the
best witnessed determination and focus on the floor! The top performers, most improved, runners up and
the best trainees were the categories which witnessed awards being doled out in the month’s age old R&R
ceremony. This was followed by some exciting games like Bingo. Inquisitiveness, quick responses and cheer
prevailed on the floor even as the team members took chats and closed sales! Now that’s a way to perform!
CONGRATULATIONS!
MOVING UP THE SUCCESS LADDER
O
ur continued ability to delight customers and exceed expectations is reflected
by the rapid growth and expansion that EMS has experienced during the past
several months. Though growth does bring challenge, it also presents
opportunity.
It is with great pleasure that that we announce the promotion of Mehul Chaudhary,
to the position of QA Lead - Intern.
Mehul started his career with Etech as an OCR with AT&T C2C campaign in August 2008. He then moved to

and also exceeded expectation by utilizing his analytical skills and involving himself in various Process
Improvement Projects and Business Development activities which gradually led him to his current position.
Mehul has completed his Diploma in Electronics & Communications from Ganpat University. He is
passionate about sports and loves watching Basket Ball & Cricket. He was a State level Basket Ball player
and likes to watch Drama, Sci-Fi & Comedy movies.
Please join us in congratulating Mehul for his new role and wish him all the best in his future endeavors!

W
ith great pleasure we would like to announce the launch of a new

BENEFITS CORNER
MENTAL HEALTH: HABITS TO HAVE
E
very day you make choices that can either contribute to or detract from
your long-term health. Choose wisely, seek help for mental illness, and
know that good mental health is within your reach. When it comes to
mental health, lifestyle, physical health and mental illness treatment—therapy
and medications—can work together to treat an identified disorder, minimize
recurrences, and make life more livable. Here are some key Habits to Have®:
Examine your Attitude.
Mental illnesses are still seen as different from other common health conditions like heart or kidney
disease. Don’t let your own attitudes or society’s stigma get in the way of getting treatment for
yourself or others.
Know the Signs and Symptoms.
If you don’t know what to look for, you could miss the signs of mental illness in yourself, your family or
your friends. Go online and get smart – it’s not hard and it can make all the difference in preventing
mental illness and dealing with it.
Address Potential Problems.
Unresolved issues, stress, and ignored behaviors can lead to unrecognized and untreated mental
illness. Parents, kids, spouses, significant others and friends need to ask and talk about how they're
feeling. Mental health can be hard to talk about, but don’t
hesitate to ask about a change in behavior you've noticed.
Talk to your Family Doctor.
If you think there’s a problem, start with your doctor. They'll
help identify if there’s a potential mental health
issue and determine if you should see a mental health
professional. Because mental health is a highly specialized
area of medicine, receiving a thorough evaluation and
specific diagnosis from a mental health professional is
important.
Get evaluated. Get Diagnosed.
You should have a complete mental and physical health evaluation before taking medication or receiving therapy. Once you're given a diagnosis, make sure you fully understand and agree with it prior
to beginning treatment. If necessary, seek out and get a second opinion.
Understand your Treatment Options.
While insurance coverage for mental health issues may be more limited than many other health
conditions, a number of advocacy organizations exist to help you find and get treatment through
federal, state and local programs (learn more at nami.org).
18
Don’t be Afraid of Medicine and Therapy.
Therapy and medication are highly effective treatments, with medication providing relief and control
of symptoms while therapy addresses long-term cognitive change. Be sure to give medication
regimens enough time to work. It often takes several weeks for medicines to work completely and
may also involve trying several different drugs. Find a therapist you're comfortable with and expect
the process to take some time. As many therapists say, you'll get out of it what you put into it.
Address Lifestyle Issues.
Exercise and diet have been shown to have a positive effect on mental health. A healthy lifestyle is
also crucial to maintaining mental health or overcoming mental illness. Evaluate your own lifestyle
and identify the stressors in your life. Even if you can’t remove or control them, healthy living can help
reduce their effect.
Check In and Check Up.
Most of us never consider checking up on our mental health, but we should. For parents, this means
taking the time to sit down with your kids to explore what’s happening in their emotional lives. For
spouses, it’s making sure you look for and address your stressors. For friends and family, it’s making
sure you create an environment in which mental health issues are openly discussed and treatment is
encouraged.
