Homecoming at Asheboro High School
1) AHS Homecoming – Homecoming festivities began last week with Powder Puff where the Junior girls beat the Senior girls 24-22. The Senior boys
cheered to a rendition of various Disney songs at halftime. The week continued with the bonfire/cookout on Thursday with live music and the band
pumping up the student body. The week ended with the pep rally on Friday afternoon. The homecoming court was introduced at halftime during the
Homecoming game and Megan Stoltzfus was selected Homecoming Queen. Twyla Little and Juanita Herrera
were selected as Princesses for the Senior Class. Bailey Allgood was selected as the Junior class Princess,
with Destinee Goldston representing the Sophomore class and Iliana Domhoff for the Freshman class
Princess. For the first time in many years a homecoming dance was held following the game in the Old gym. It was a great homecoming week for the Blue
Comets!
2) Health Plan Open Enrollment – This is the last week of open

wellness premium credits by October 31. The selections you make
during open enrollment will be effective January 1, 2015.

3) Flu Shot Clinic Scheduled for November 4 – ACS will host
a flu shot clinic November 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in two locations:
Central Office (Board Room) and NAMS (Auditorium Lobby).
4) AHS Chorus Fruit Sale – AHS Choruses are selling fruit through
Friday, November 21. Click here to see options/prices. Profits from
the sale benefit the chorus trip to New York in March 2015. The fruit will
be delivered on December 15 or 16. All orders must be prepaid and
checks should be made out to AHS. If you are interested in ordering,
email Dee Crutchfield ([email protected]) or see any
AHS chorus student.
Congratulations to Caroline Aguero (Lindley Park) and Martin Stanich
(AHS) on the birth of their son, Joaquin, on October 26.
6) Tech Tip – Using the research tool in Google Presentation. Locate
and insert resources into your presentation without leaving the Google

7) AAEOP Raffle - The Asheboro Association of Educational
Professionals is holding a raffle for two $50 VISA® gift cards. Tickets are
$1 each or $5 for 6. Proceeds will benefit the AAEOP Scholarship Fund.
Tickets can be purchased from any AAEOP member or your school
secretary. The drawing will be held on November 21.
8) News from McCrary – The finale to McCrary’s Red
Ribbon Week last week was a school-wide outdoor assembly
on Friday. Students and guests were treated to a staff
basketball shootout “Team up against drugs.” The Musical
Mustangs student choir opened the event by singing “That’s Not
Me”.
On Sunday, October 26, the McCrary UNITE Club Drummers,
an environmental and musical group, performed at the NC Zoo
to help celebrate the annual Boo at the Zoo event.
9) Band-O-Rama – Come one, come all to the 10th annual Asheboro High
School Marching Comets BANDORAMA concert!!! Do you love the sounds of the
band on Friday nights? Come out on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:30 in the Asheboro
High School Performing Arts Center to hear all of the music from this year’s pregame
and halftime shows in addition to all of the stands music and percussion cadences.
Cost is $5 per
person and
tickets will be
available at the
door. All
proceeds go
toward the
Asheboro High
School Band
Scholarship
Program.
10) Successful Parent Webinar– On October 15 the guidance counselors at
Asheboro High School hosted a webinar presented by the College Foundation of
North Carolina to help students and parents better understand the college
admissions process. This is just one example of how we are helping our students
become college and career ready!
11) C.C. Cranford Citizenship Cup Reception – Before the
12) Zoo School Students Meet Gov. McCrory – On October
Homecoming game at AHS on Friday, several past winners of the C.C.
Cranford Citizenship Cup gathered to celebrate one of AHS’ longest
standing and proudest traditions. The award is presented to the most
outstanding citizen in each class. Seniors select the winner from faculty
nominations of students based on industry, character, obedience, service,
courtesy and loyalty. Dr. Worrell, Dr. Toth and Sam Cranford were the
main speakers at the event. Sam Cranford is the grandson of C.C.
Cranford and was the winner of the prestigious award in 1961.
Representatives from each of the cups also gave brief remarks. All four
of the cups are on display at the main entrance of the high school.
23 two Zoo School Students participated in the grand opening
ceremonies of the new Polar Bear Exhibit at the NC Zoo. Jessica
Arellano and Shacoria Mitchell met with Governor McCrory while he was
at the zoo to answer any questions about the Zoo School and about
projects they have been involved with concerning Polar Bears.

her Senior Project.
Shacoria was involved
in the research and
writing of an article
about Kobuk Valley,
Alaska and Polar Bears
for the A3 Wellness
Challenge and the
Courier-Tribune.
Both students were
interviewed by the
Courier-Tribune and
Jessica was
interviewed on camera
by Time Warner Cable
news.

14) Lindley Park Wears Orange – Lindley Park staff and students wore orange
last Wednesday as way to show unity against bullying. Classrooms had a special
lessons to inform students how to stand up against bullying.

age 5-25 working to end hunger in their school could get a
$5,000 scholarship for school and a $5,000 grant to give to
