Dear Friends,
I share with you this reflection:
The first time I experienced the baptism of an adult at an Easter Vigil, I was struck by the impact the
sacrament seemed to have on one man in particular. Joe had been raised in the Jewish faith and, late in his
life, embraced Christianity. Our parish experienced eleven adult baptisms that night and Joe was one of the
last to be baptized. As the organist, I had a particularly good view of the newly baptized as they emerged
from the baptismal font. When Joe, who usually had a serious look about him, emerged from the waters, his
face was absolutely radiant. When he stood up, I played the introduction to the acclamation and the roof was
nearly lifted off the church as the congregation sang, “You have put on Christ, in him you have been
baptized. Alleluia, Alleluia!” I couldn’t wait to talk with Joe about the experience.
A week later I sat with Joe and a group of the newly baptized and asked Joe what it was like to be baptized.
He said, “When I came up out of the water and looked into the faces of the people in the church, I realized
that I was finally one of them.” Joe had been clothed with Christ in so many ways that night. To be clothed in
Christ means that we become Christ for one another. It also means that we heed the call issued forth from
Christ in today’s Gospel to take up the cross daily and follow him. It also means that we are clothed with
another manifestation of Christ in our Christian experience, namely, we become part of this community that
is the body of Christ. One consolation about being a Christian is that we never take up our crosses alone. We
always have the support and love of the body of Christ. As the long stretch of Ordinary Time opens before
us, let us pledge to support one another as we take up our crosses daily and follow in the footsteps of Christ,
in whom we have been baptized.

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today, as he often does, Luke portrays Jesus “praying in
solitude” (Luke 9:18). The Jubilee Year of Mercy invites
us to rediscover the value of silence as the prayerful setting in which to reflect on the ways in which God’s mercy
transforms our lives, in order to make mercy the
heart of our own lifestyle. But in a line that sounds odd,
Jesus “rebuked” his disciples “and directed them not to
tell anyone”(9:20–21) after they professed their faith in
Jesus as “the Christ of God” (9:20). Jesus challenges us
also to profess our faith not by what we say, but by what
we do: take up our own cross daily (9:23) and “bear one
another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). Our gratitude for
God’s mercy toward us should make us instruments of
God’s mercy toward all. Then, as Zechariah prophesies in
today’s first reading, the fountain of God’s mercy will
open to purify the whole world from the sin and selfishness that cause suffering and sorrow to so many
(Zechariah 13:1).

Why is it important that we register at St. John the
Baptist? Isn’t it good enough that we go to Mass? Why
should we bother to use the envelope system?
Registration is the official way we join a parish
community. Many people think that because they attend St.
John’s they automatically belong. At times young adults who
have moved away for years think they are still signed up
under their parent’s registration. But membership requires
signing up, formally enrolling yourself with St.
John’s. Registration is a commitment to a community, a way
to be included in the religious, social, and ministerial activities
of St. John’s. Your registration affects St. John’s in many
ways. Census numbers can determine how many priests are
assigned to a church, what benefits and obligations the
community has to the diocese, and how Masses, confessions,
and devotions are planned and scheduled.
Registration shows you belong. It is also necessary for
certain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, obtaining
sponsor certificates, and getting donation statements for
taxes. Registering at St. John’s is a statement of faith and
confidence in the life and work of our parish.
The expense of the envelope system is cost effective. Using
the envelope system is a way that St. John’s can verify your
participation in weekly Mass. If you are receiving envelopes
but not using them, please consider doing this.

Queridos amigos,
Quiero compartir con ustedes esta reflexión:
La primera vez que yo presencié el bautismo de un adulto dentro de la Vigilia Pascual, me impresionó mucho el impacto que el
sacramento parecía haber tenido sobre uno de los bautizados en particular. José se había criado en la fe judía, y había abrazado la
fe cristiana ya bastante mayor. Nuestra parroquia había bautizado once adultos esa noche, y José fue uno de los últimos en
bautizarse. Como yo estaba tocando el órgano, podía ver a los recién bautizados muy de cerca según iban saliendo de la fuente
bautismal. Cuando José, que normalmente tenía una cara muy seria, salió de entre las aguas, su expresión estaba absolutamente
radiante. Cuando él iba saliendo de la fuente, comencé a tocar la introducción a la aclamación, y las voces de la comunidad
atronaron hasta el techo de la iglesia cantando “Todos los que se han sumergido en Cristo, de él se han revestido, ¡Aleluya!
¡Aleluya!”. No podía contener los deseos de hablar con José sobre esta experiencia.
Una semana más tarde, yo estaba junto a José en un grupo de los recién bautizados, y le pregunté que cómo se sentía uno al recibir
el bautismo. Me dijo: “Cuando salí del agua y miré las caras de la gente que llenaban la iglesia, me di cuenta de que ahora sí que
era uno con ellos”. La verdad es que, esa noche José se había revestido de Cristo en muchas maneras. Revestirse de Cristo
significa que nos hacemos Cristo unos para otros. También significa que escuchamos el llamado de Cristo en el Evangelio de
hoy, de cargar nuestra cruz diariamente y seguirlo. Y más aun, significa que nos revestimos de otra manifestación de Cristo en
nuestra experiencia cristiana, la de ser parte de una comunidad que es el Cuerpo místico de Cristo. Una cosa muy consoladora en
nuestra vida cristiana es que nunca cargamos nuestra cruz solos. Siempre tenemos el apoyo y el amor de ese Cuerpo de Cristo.
Ahora que los largos meses del tiempo ordinario se abren ante nuestra vista, prometamos apoyarnos unos a otros en el diario
cargar de nuestras cruces y seguir las huellas de Cristo, en quien hemos sido bautizados.

UN BUEN PAPA…
“Hijo mío, si tu corazón es sabio, también se alegrará mi corazón. Mis entrañas se regocijarán, cuando tus
labios hablen con rectitud". Proverbios 23,15-16
Pareciera que la celebración del día de la madre tiene más relevancia que la celebración de los papás. De repente esto sea
producto de la irresponsabilidad de algunos hombre que han abandonado a su esposa e hijos. Sin embargo, debemos darle
gracias a Dios porque existen buenos padres de familia quienes responsablemente han sacado adelante su matrimonio y a
sus hijos.
Toda familia tiene necesidad del padre. Para ser un buen papá, lo primero es estar presente en la familia, compartir los gozos
y las penas con la esposa, acompañar a los hijos en cada momento de la vida y sobre todo cuando van creciendo.
El padre de familia trata de enseñarle a sus hijos aquellas cosas que aún no saben; ayuda a sus hijos a corregir aquellos
errores que todavía no saben reconocer; ayudan a orientar el corazón de los hijos; los protege
en el desánimo y la dificultad. Todo esto es posible a través de la cercanía, la dulzura y la
firmeza que no humilla. Se puede decir que la mayor satisfacción de un padre de familia es
ayudarle a sus hijos a tener un corazón sensato, es decir, un corazón sabio.
Un papá será feliz cada vez que vea a sus hijos actuar con rectitud. Esa es la mejor herencia:
que sepan escuchar y actuar, de hablar y juzgar con sabiduría y rectitud.
A ustedes queridos padres de familia, y en particular a los padres jóvenes, les corresponde
enseñar las virtudes necesarias, corregir los errores que sus hijos no son capaces de ver aunque
esto suponga ser fuertes con ellos sin llegar a los golpes. Te corresponde hacerles sentir tu
afecto profundo y a la vez discreto, aunque quizá tus hijos no sabrá reconocerlo en sus años de
juventud. Pero ten por seguro, que sabrá valorar tu presencia y tu ejemplo cuando a ellos les toque hacer lo mismo.
Te toca a ti mismo ponerte a la prueba de la sabiduría del corazón y vigilar sobre los excesos del sentimiento y del
resentimiento, para llevar el peso de las inevitables incomprensiones y encontrar las palabras justas para hacerles entender.
Esto es lo que piensa y dice un padre sabio, un padre maduro.
Un padre sabe bien cuánto cuesta transmitir esta herencia: cuánta cercanía, cuánta dulzura
y cuánta firmeza. ¡Pero cuánta consolación y cuánta recompensa se recibe cuando los hijos
rinden honores a esta herencia! Es una alegría que rescata toda fatiga, que supera toda
incomprensión y cura toda herida. Por es necesario que los papás estén presentes en la
familia. Que esté cerca de la esposa, para compartir todo, alegrías y dolores, fatigas y
esperanzas. Y que estén siempre presentes en la vida de los hijos sobre todo en su
crecimiento de ellos. Aunque vale la pena decir que estar presente en la vida de tus hijos no
quiere decir “controlador” porque los padres demasiados “controladores” destruyen a los
hijos y no los dejan crecer o madurar.
Dios es el mejor ejemplo de paternidad. A ejemplo de Dios Padre, los padres tienen que ser pacientes. Muchas veces no
queda más que esperar, rezar y esperar con paciencia, dulzura, magnanimidad, misericordia. Un buen padre sabe esperar
y sabe perdonar, desde el profundo del corazón. Cierto, sabe también corregir con firmeza: no es un padre débil,
complaciente, sentimental. El padre que sabe corregir sin humillar es el mismo que sabe proteger sin limitarse.
Este fin de semana, a todos ustedes que tienen la dicha de ser papás, y a ustedes que ejercen la paternidad y la maternidad a
la vez, les deseo de todo corazón muchas felicidades. Pido para todos ustedes la intercesión del Señor San José, protector de
las familias.

Duodécimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Hoy, como frecuentemente lo hace, Lucas presenta a Jesús
“alejándose para orar solo” (Lucas 9:18). El Año Jubilar de la
Misericordia nos invita redescubrir el valor del silencio como
una manera de rezar para reflexionar de qué manera la misericordia de Dios transforma nuestras vidas, para hacer misericordia el
corazón de nuestro propio estilo de vida. Pero en un momento
Jesús dice algo que suena “extraño”, cuando ordena a sus discípulos no decirle a nadie (ver 9:20–21) después de que profesan
su fe en Jesús como “El Mesías de Dios” (9:20). Jesús también
nos desafía a profesar nuestra fe no por lo que decimos, sino por
lo que hacemos: tomar nuestra cruz de cada día (9:23) y “llevar
las cargas los unos de los otros”. Nuestro
agradecimiento por
la misericordia de Dios hacia nosotros debe hacernos instrumentos de la misericordia de Dios hacia con todos. Luego, como la
profecía del profeta Zacarías en la primera lectura, la fuente de
la misericordia de Dios brotará para purificar a todo el mundo de
los pecados y el egoísmo que causa sufrimiento y dolor a muchos (Zacarías 13:1).

La Comunidad de San Juan Bautista ofrecerá una cena de
despedida al Padre Mike para agradecerle por sus años de
servicio en nuestra parroquia. Esta será una buena
oportunidad para despedirse y desearle un feliz retiro. La
cena será el Domingo 26 de junio a las 4:30 pm en el

EDUCACION RELIGIOSA K-6
Queridos Padres de familia: si usted tiene un niño o niña
que están en los grados de primero a sexto y que aúno han
hecho su primera communion, ya estamos inscribiendo
para el año 2016/17. Pueden venir a la oficina y traer:
