Better Lives For Refugees
From 29 Nov - 19 Dec 2015, for every bulb and lamp sold,
IKEA Foundation will donate €1 (approx. RM4.25) to
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) that
will help improve the lives of refugees Jordan by providing
education opportunities, solar street lights, solar lanterns and
other renewable energy solutions.
Hej!
They say home is where the heart is, and for
many the heart of the home is the kitchen where
food is prepared and where the buzz happens
before any gathering in the home starts.
This issue, we introduce the new IKEA METOD
kitchen, a brand new range of kitchens for the first
time in 10 years, with new door fronts, drawer in
drawer combinations (page 8). Together with the
easy kitchens tips you may find useful (page 14).
Soft Toy for Education Campaign
We also let you in on behind the scenes of the
IKEA products you meet in the store (page 16)
as well as sharing a little bit of inspiration on
dressing up a part of your home you may usually
ignore (page 18).
In its last year running since 10 years ago, from 8 Nov 2015 - 2 Jan 2016,
for every soft toy sold, IKEA Foundation will donate €1 (approx. RM4.25)
to The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Save The Children
Foundation to help with the education of less fortunate children. Do you
know that SAGOSKATT glove puppet monster was designed by a Malaysian?
We hope you’ll enjoy this issue as much as we
enjoyed creating it for you!
IKEA invites your child to enter soft toys global drawing competition and
stand a chance of having your dream soft toy comes to life. More info will
be updated in Nov 2015 at IKEA.my/FAMILY

So what’s new?
Stronger styles
With drawer heights as small as 10cm
and door fronts as tall as 200cm,
you can make your kitchen look as
traditional or as modern as you like.
The new
METOD kitchens
Welcome to METOD - the new IKEA kitchen system. When we say
new, we mean completely new. The frames, doors, the hinges, the
drawers - everything! All designed to give you the freedom to create
your dream kitchen, with the looks you love, the functions you need
and the staying power to stand up to everyday life in your home.
And all with that famous IKEA price tag. The biggest range change
10 years, the new METOD is a major change for a great improvement.
METOD kitchens
have a 25-year guarantee.
Your Building Blocks
The key to METOD is a revolutionary set of
measurements - a breakthrough that led to
a new range of sizes and a world of endless
possibilities. Here are the building
blocks. Put them together anyway
you like.
Wall cabinets come
in heights from
40cm to 100cm.
Building block logic
METOD cabinets use simple, even 20 centimetre
increments for width and height, a modularity that
makes it easier to plan and customise your kitchen.
Cabinets come in two colours:
white and black-brown.
No more white frames
peeking out between your
dark doors and fronts!
Wall cabinets, base cabinets
and counter tops can be
combined to create solitaire
storage units. You can even
put them on our 28cm legs.
Lower plinths
Our standard plinth is lowered from
16cm to 8cm, opening up more
storage space in base cabinets.
New cabinet looks
Cabinets in widths of
20, 40, 60 and 80cm.
Base cabinets come in
heights of 60cm and 80cm.
TUTEMO coloured inserts not only add a splash of colour,
they’re also great for cookbooks and showing things off.
08 IKEA FAMILY news
Drawers come in heights of
10, 20 and 40cm.
With improved, smooth finishes,
METOD cabinets can also be
used without cover panels.
There are also cover caps to
hide the pre-drilled holes.
New base cabinet heights
Cabinet are available in heights
of 80cm - which create more
space - and 60cm, which lower
the worktop height or can be
combined with our new 28cm
legs. (Budgie not included.)
Base and high cabinets come in depths of 37 and 60cm
to squeeze the most storage out of the space available.

can be placed freely. For instance, an 80cm cabinet
can have two 40cm drawer fronts that open to reveal
additional inner drawers.

Cooking
Helpful Kitchen
tips perhaps you
never knew
Small improvements can make big
changes and save loads of time.
Here are some of our favourite tips.
• If you find you need more oil in the pan
when sautéing or light frying, add the oil
in a stream along the edges of the pan so
that by the time it reaches the centre of
the pan, it will be heated.
GRUNDTAL magnetic knife rack

sautéing it, slice it instead. It is less
likely to burn that way.
• Keep your knives sharp by placing it
on a magnetic strip rather than a knife
board. The magnetic strip can also
double up as a spice rack to keep
your spices.

on a fancy cheese

look instead to serve
your cheeses.
• Soak bitter greens like arugula in ice water
and leave it in the fridge for about an hour
to reduce their bitterness. Run the leaves
through a salad spinner a couple of times with
a paper towel to get them nice and crisp.
