DEDICATED TO PROVIDING SUPERIOR TOOLS WORLDWIDE
From its beginnings in the mid-seventies, Pressmaster has become the world leader in designing and manufacturing the finest tools for cable and wire termination applications: crimping, stripping, and cutting.
Pressmaster products are designed for users who demand the very best quality, productivity, and
profitability. We offer a wide range of standard tools for which special die sets can easily be provided for
various applications.
Pressmaster products feature: • High quality
• Good ergonomics
• Solid customer support before and after delivery
• Short and reliable lead time
The Pressmaster philosophy can be summed up in one word: reliability. We do not consider that a sale
is completed unless the customer is satisfied and returns with a new order when the tools finally wears out.
Today our tools are used throughout the world. They are a natural part of any crimp termination
application where only the best will do.
QUALITY DOWN TO THE LAST DETAIL
Our customers know that quality always counts. That’s why we use
the finest equipment that can be found for quality control - both during
the design stage and at delivery time.
For example, the surface finish in the die nest surfaces of an openbarrel crimp tool is critical for it’s performance. In order to study and
document the crimping process down to the last detail, we use an
advanced video microscope. This allows meticulous control over the
quality the tool will give the customer when he comes to use it.
Further proof of the high standard of quality is the fact that each
individual tool is tested before delivery. Open-barrel tools are tested for
a specified crimp height and other tools are tested with a gauge.
Pressmaster has ISO9001 quality assurance certification. Even more
important is the quality awareness that has always characterized our
work... quality that is based upon skilled craftmanship and professional The surface finish of the die sets entirely
determines if crimping meets the
pride.
required standard. Above, open-barrel
crimping documented step by step by the
video microscope.
TAILOR-MADE TOOLS FOR THE WORLD’S LEADING MANUFACTURERS
OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC CONNECTORS
Our modern factory in Alvdalen, Sweden, features state-of-the-art production technology. All design
engineering is done with AutoCAD.
CUSTOM TOOLS
One of our two main business areas is to make customized
tools for special applications. The first step in developing a
customized tool is to create a thorough specification for it
together with our customer. On this basis, we develop, produce,
and test a prototype. Once it is accepted, we can manufacture
it in the volume required.
PRIVATE LABELING
Pessmaster tool offers a wide variety of options for private
labeling. The metal parts may be laser marked or labeled with
the customer’s information such as logo, part number, etc. The
plastic handles can be supplied in a wide range of colors and
can be customized with molded information or labels. Finally,
the tools can be supplied in a variety of customized packages
and instruction sheets to meet the customer’s needs.
Using powerful computers and sophisticated software, the durability and wear strength of all parts
of the tools are tested.
CARING ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO USE OUR TOOLS
Injuries from strain to the hands and lower arms are often caused by poorly designed hand tools. For
that reason, we always develop tools in close cooperation with prominent ergonomists for maximum tool
performance and user-friendliness.
Every individual has an optimal grip diameter related to their hand size. We design our tools accordingly
in order to maximize the tool’s efficiency. The handles must be designed to reduce mechanical stress concentrations on the hands and forearm. The handle material must have optimum friction and texture properties.
Comprehensive field testing ensures that our tools meet these requirements. In this way they provide
top quality work and at the same time reduce the risk of work-related injuries.

Practical and easy to use
Mobile Crimp Tool is designed to meet the needs
of installers and maintenance engineers. Based on
extensive end user interviews the crimp nests have
been positioned to give the user good visibility
when inserting the connector. A gentle squeeze
on the handles holds the connector and keeps it in
position when inserting the wire. The crimping is
completed by pressing the handles together until the
ratchet is released. The easily interchangeable crimp dies
are held together in pairs with a special pin and supplied
in a modular reusable box. Every detail has been optimised to
simplify handling. A tool that is practical and easy to use without
compromising the quality of the crimp.

Some common wires
and cables
How to achieve that
perfect strip
Fibre optic cable
Coaxial cable
Screened
twisted pair
Unscreened

multi core cable
On the face of it, stripping wires and cables
seems like a very straightforward task. We
have all tried it and all met with a reason-able
degree of success. But the speed and quality
of the result we achieve depends on many
factors. As with most jobs of work, thorough
preparation and a good hand tool are
essential.
This guide explains some of the problems
and pitfalls of cable and wire stripping, and
recommends some simple steps that will
help you achieve that perfect, or as good as
perfect, strip.
Familiarise yourself with
the job in hand
As the main illustration shows, there is an
extremely wide range of wires and cables on
the market today. Furthermore, types that
appear to be similar can be very different
inside, just as types that look very different
may have the same cross-sectional area of
conductor (see below).
Prepare the wire/cable
to fit the connector
When preparing the wire or cable to fit the
connector, i.e. stripping it to expose the
length of conductor (or lengths for coaxial
cables) specified by the connector manufacturer, note the following key
requirements:
- do not cut, nick or scrape the conductor(s)
in any way. Ensure that strands are not
pulled out of the wire end (this indicates
nicking).
- maintain the lay (twisting) of the conductor.
Do not over-twist or straighten.
Modular cable
Equipment wire
Conduit cable
Switchgear cable
Flexible mains
cable
Single wire
Four 18 AWG insulated equipment wires from
the standard range of two large wire manufacturers. The outer diameter and thickness
of the insulation varies tremendously, yet the
cross-sectional area of the conductor is the
same in all cases.
Fortunately, connector manufacturers realise
the impracticality of making connectors specific for all wire types – the cost would be
prohibitive and the numbers bewildering. Instead, they aim to make the largest numbers
of wires fit into the smallest numbers of
connectors. In addition, the better connector
manufacturers always specify the wire range
that will fit into a specific connector.
Armed with this information, select a wire or
cable suitable for the job. Next, check the
make up of the wire. Pay particular attention
to the conductor material, cross-sectional
area and the type of plating and shield if
applicable. Check the amount of stranding
and, if appropriate, the twisting. Finally,
examine the insulation. Insulation material
ranges from very soft to very hard, and some
wires may be double or triple-insulated with
different types of insulation. Certain cables
can even be armoured with steel wire.
- cut the insulation clean and square to the
wire without unduly stretching the material.
Beware: Manually setting a strip length of 5
mm on a gauge does not guarantee that this
length will be achieved. All insulation
material stretches to some extent when the
waste slug is pulled off, unless the
insulation is completely cut through, which is
almost impossible to achieve in practice.
- do not scar or cut the remaining insulation.
(Grip marks are acceptable provided that the
insulation returns to its original shape.)
- keep the conductor clean. Remove any
remaining scraps of insulation trapped
between conductors and brush away any
powder deposits (powder is often included in
cables to stop cores/conductors from
adhering to the insulation).
