For those of you who are new to Housing this year, welcome! We’re
glad you are joining the Riverhawk family. For all of our returning residents,
we are delighted you are returning to Housing for another busy, fulfilling year.
Since you are probably both excited and anxious about living on campus for the
first time or returning after a long summer break, we have put together some
information to help answer some of our resident’s most frequently asked questions. Please feel free to visit the NSU website for further details.
For those of us who have been in Tahlequah working this summer, it is
nearly impossible to comprehend that the summer has nearly come and gone and
the halls will officially open in a few weeks. We’ve housed summer school residents and a number of camps and conferences. Our facilities and custodial staff
teams have been extraordinarily busy this summer. These dedicated employees
have worked tirelessly to complete work orders, projects, and improvements in
order to provide you with the best living-learning environment possible this
year.
Our Residence Life staff have been working on their strategic plan to
offer the best living-learning environments in each of our residence halls. Our
Residence Life staff will arrive at the beginning of August to begin an intensive
training program designed with offering our residents a year full of fun, growth,
and development. These individuals were selected to help you on your undergraduate journey at NSU.
Living in a residence hall is an opportunity to learn and grow outside of
the classroom. What you will learn from your experiences in a group living situation will serve you well as you move toward graduation and a successful career in the years ahead. We encourage you to take advantage of all of the programs and the opportunities awaiting you in our residence halls and across campus. Have a great year!!!
Move In day is on Sunday, August 10th beginning at 8am. You may show up on the days following, just remember that classes start on Monday, Aug 18th.
When you arrive, go to your assigned hall. If you don’t know your assigned hall, go to the Housing Office in
Leoser Center. You will not be permitted to park in front of the hall for longer than 30 mins. Be prepared to
unload your vehicle and move it to a designated parking space as you check in. Please make sure you label
your items with your first and last name. You will need your student ID to check in to your room.
Still unsure of what to bring with you when moving in? On the back of this newsletter is a check list of what's
appropriate to bring and what is not. Be sure to review this check list.
If you are going to arrive after August 18th, please contact us and let our office know so that you are not considered a “no-show” and risk losing your room. If you have decided to cancel your contract, please contact
the Housing Office as soon as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions

Meal Plans
If you would like to change your meal plan, you may
change it to any residential meal plan during until the end
of the first week of classes. After the first week of classes
you may only increase your meal plan.
NSU has a rich variety of organizations to complement a student’s academic life. We have over 90 organizations where
students can find a place to be involved. Students interested
in getting involved can review the comprehensive list on the

Affairs

Roommates
Do you have a concern with your room/roommate? First,
you will need to consult with your RA to see if the concern may be remedied . If not, you may submit a room
change request form (available at the Housing Office).
The form will be reviewed by your Hall Manager.
Maintenance Requests
If any problems arise in your room such as a faucet leaking, bulbs burning out, etc., we have a way of getting any
problem that may occur fixed as soon as possible. The
NSU website, click “University Housing”, click “request
forms”, and click “Housing Maintenance Request.” Here
you may fill out the room information and give a brief
detailed description of the problem. You must submit a
separate Work Order per problem. For network connection problems, call the IT Services Desk at (918) 4445678.
Talon Charge
Talon Charge is only allowed for the purchase or rental of
textbooks, educational supplies (notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, scantrons, etc.) and book bags at the NSU
RiverHawk Shoppe.
How You Are Billed
The entire semester’s housing are being charged to your
student account. Your room and board is due by the first
day of classes, August 18, 2014. If you receive financial
aid, it will be applied to your housing charges after tuition
and books are paid. You will be responsible for any remaining balance.
How to Read Your Billing Statement
Included in your university bill will be 3 types of charges
for housing and meal plans. The first type of charge will
indicate your meal plan (it may look like this: “Meal Plan
56”). If you change your meal plan after August 10th you
will most likely see two meal plans on your statement.
Your original meal plan will be pro-rated based on the
date of your meal plan change. The second type of charge
will indicate your room assignment (it may look like this:
“Leoser Rent”). The last type of charge is very generic
and is called an “incidental” charge (it may look like this:
“Hastings Incidental Charge”). These charges include lost
keys, damages, etc. Questions? Contact our office at 918444-4700.

the University Center. The

About “Lofts”
The Drop Zone is the hub for mail services. It is located in the basement of
the University Center. Anyone can purchase stamps and mailing supplies,
mail letters and send packages. Except
for weekends and holidays, mail is retrieved 9:30am daily from the USPS.
Here are a couple of things to consider:
Every room has an Ethernet jack for residents to
connect their computers to the NSU network.
Students must provide their own Ethernet cable
or router for multiple connections and Wi-Fi. Assistance is available through the Department of
Information Technology Services
Rooms in the South Leoser Complex are
outfitted with bed sets that can be lofted to
allow for space in your room. Lofts are requested on Move In Day upon check-in and
are delivered the evening of Opening Day,
on a first come-first serve basis.
For more info, visit:
Drop Zone Homepage

Keep in mind that all room furniture must
remain in the room at all times. It cannot be
removed or exchanged.
