MARVELLOUS
TRANSFORMATION
A NOTE FROM THE CEO
INTRODUCING TPC KUALA LUMPUR –
PGA TOUR’S ONLY TPC IN ASIA
A big THANKS to members who attended the TPC
KUALA LUMPUR briefing session on 8 August 2016.
More importantly, thank you for the great support and
wonderful encouragement over the years.
For the benefit of members who were unable to attend
the briefing session, it is my pleasure to share with you
in this dossier; on the exciting transformation that
KLGCC is embarking on.
Sime Darby Property‘s vision as a committed proprietor
of this Club is to consistently exceed expectations in
maintaining an exclusive country club with world class
golf and lifestyle experiences.
While KLGCC may already be at the summit among
golf clubs in Malaysia, we are not content to rest on our
laurels. Instead, we are committed to continuously improve and exceed our stakeholder’s expectations. This
long-awaited announcement aspires to elevate KLGCC
to an indomitable position, enhance our membership
value and at the same time contribute to the greater
appreciation of the realty within the vicinity. In short, we
want to be among the world’s best.
This year, KLGCC celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Considering the fact that we are a fairly young club, we
have made quite an impact in the world of golf.
The saying, “Rome was not built in a day” is so true for
us. Preparations at KLGCC have already begun years
ago in every aspect of the club starting with the golf
courses. The East and West Courses went through extensive renovations upon its acquisition by Sime Darby
Property in the late 90s. Numerous improvements have
been introduced to course conditions, golf operations
and club facilities. KLGCC’s clubhouse also underwent
a major makeover and is today an opulent architecture marvel equipped with some of the best facilities.
KLGCC’s journey in propagating golf has defined new
standards for Malaysia’s golf and country clubs.
2
Classic; thus stamping us as the only club in the world
that successfully hosted the European, LPGA and PGA
TOUR all within one year between 2013 and 2015. Not
an easy feat considering the strict standards set by all
three PGA TOUR, European Tour and LPGA agronomists.
These tournaments have further raised the profile of
KLGCC and Malaysia on the world map of golf, opened
doors for numerous awards and recognition and thus
attracted a notable list of men and women professional
golfers. These include Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood,
Ricky Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, Ernie Els,
Adam Scott, Lydia Ko, Lexi Thompson, Shanshan Feng,
Jessica Korda, Inbee Park, Michelle Wie and many
more.
So now, KLGCC is ready to embark on a quantum leap.
We are ready to be among the world’s best. We are
ready to become the very first Tournament Players Club
(TPC) in Southeast Asia – known as TPC Kuala Lumpur.
Following the complete makeover, KLGCC which is
strategically set within the green lung of Kuala Lumpur
just eight kilometres from the heart of the city; has been
primed to stage major international golf tournaments.
For members who are not yet familiar, TPC is a network
of high quality tournament-grade golf courses operated
by the PGA TOUR which is the biggest brand in golf.
TPCs are built for the capacity to accommodate large
crowds during major tournaments. There are a total of
34 TPCs currently and most of them are located in North
America.
Three of the most notable tournaments are the Maybank
Malaysian Open, Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and CIMB
Partnering with PGA TOUR as a TPC is a win-win
situation. TPC Kuala Lumpur certainly fits the TPC/
PGA TOUR tournament standards and has even exceeded the requirement by successfully hosting three international
tournaments in one single year.
As part of the TPC network, members will also enjoy additional access to other TPC clubs including the renowned
TPC Sawgrass, PGA West and TPC Harding Park. Your TPC Kuala Lumpur membership value will certainly
appreciate due to the massive international brand associations.
Members can expect to see change in better quality brand standards, services and facilities within the clubhouse with
this transformation. These also include the areas of golf operations, club management, human capital development,
food and beverage as well as leisure management services. We also envision that TPC Kuala Lumpur will be a
catalyst to further promote Malaysia as a tropical paradise for sports and leisure to the world.
Most clubs are managed independently and more often than not, the quality and standard of services are inconsistent.
Through a strategic partnership with one of the best clubs or hospitality network such as the TPC, we will have direct
access to the latest industry trends and support from like-minded hospitality professionals.
While the club dearly appreciates our current membership profile, we also want to attract the younger generation and
their families to be members of this prestigious club. Plans to beef up women and children’s activities as well as the
Gen-Y interests are underway. One event which kicked off earlier in March was the inaugural staging of the BMW
Malaysian Open – an international women’s tennis tournament that will hopefully pave the way for more spectacular
events to be held at TPC Kuala Lumpur. We are looking forward to attract a more wholesome and balanced
membership profile and to position this Club as the club of choice in the region.
The TPC Kuala Lumpur official announcement to the public falls on 24 August 2016. Let’s welcome the dawn of a new
era at this amazing club, I take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to all members for the great pride that they
have in this club.
If you have any queries about TPC Kuala Lumpur, we have specifically set up an email: [email protected] for you
to write to us. We will address every query or request diligently.
In the meantime, enclosed are some additional information and a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on TPC
Kuala Lumpur for your reading pleasure.
Thanks again and my best regards.
Yours sincerely,
(STEVEN THIELKE)
Chief Executive Officer

PRESS RELEASE
16 August 2016
CIMB Extends Commitment to CIMB Classic through 2020
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: CIMB Group, the title sponsor of CIMB Classic since its inception in
2010, today announced the extension of its title sponsorship of the golf tournament through 2020.
The four-year extension reflects the success of the only official PGA TOUR FedExCup event in
Southeast Asia, which is also the richest in the region with a purse of USD7 million. Since it was
first staged, the tournament has attracted world class professionals like Tiger Woods, Henrik
Stenson, Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa. CIMB Classic, being one of
most prestigious and biggest sporting events in the region, has undoubtedly boosted Malaysia’s
position as a golfing tourism destination, attracting an audience from all over Asia annually.
Speaking at the press conference, Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Aziz, Group Chief Executive, CIMB
Group commented, “CIMB Classic has firmly placed Malaysia on the PGA TOUR calendar, and
we are pleased to continue our title sponsorship of the tournament, which has grown from strength
to strength over the last six years. Today’s announcement is a clear demonstration of the Group’s
appreciation to PGA TOUR and our firm commitment to further develop CIMB Classic into a top
golf event not only in Malaysia but also in ASEAN. The tournament continues to generate quite a
following and we will continue to deliver an exceptional experience for players and fans alike.”
“Since its inception six years ago, the CIMB Classic has established an important international
presence for the TOUR during the early portion of the FedExCup schedule,” PGA TOUR
Commissioner Tim Finchem said. “As a preeminent banking institution in Southeast Asia that is
headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, CIMB has provided the critical support needed for the tournament
to develop and prosper. I had the opportunity to attend the CIMB Classic last year and was very
impressed not only by what I saw, but by the potential it has for future growth. We are thrilled that
CIMB will continue its sponsorship and we look forward to working with CIMB on continuing and
strengthening our successful presence in Malaysia.”

tournament in 2013. Co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Professional Golf Association of
Malaysia, it is held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club and features a limited field of 78
players. Qualifiers include the top 60 available players from the previous season’s FedExCup
