POPULAR & JURY ITA AWARDS 2007
ANCHOR
Maninee De Mishra & Smriti Irani (Jewellery sponsored by AGNI)
Best Serial - Drama (Jury)
BA BAHU AUR BABY
J. D. Majethia & Aatish KapadiaHats Off Productions Pvt. Ltd.
The title is quirky – ain’t it? But make no mistake – BBAB has
a thudding impact on you! You laugh with it, you cry with it and
it holds you captive in episode after episode.
It has a tapestry of colourful characters that send you now
in sighs, now in sobs and now in splits. It depicts a vortex
of human relations, but remains tongue-in-cheek all through
– indeed, a marvel of writing, acting and of course, producing.
Lubna Salim, Sarita Joshi, JD, Aatish
The big thing is that it does what it does, without the silly shrills
& frills of a typical TV-potboiler. That’s how it floored the Jury
and pocketed the Best-Serial, this year…!
Idea Champion Popular Show, 2007
BANOO MAIN TERI DULHAN
SHAKUNTALAM TELEFILMS
Ah! The Dulhan, the Dulha and the nasty Nanad… what a
delicious repast for the rona-dhona hungry viewers! That’s
how it’s giving the Kyunki’s of this world a run for their
money…!
It has made stars out of its debut-making protagonists. And
what connect it has made with the audience! The remotecontrols actually become redundant during its telecast!
Neelima Bajpai & Shyam Bhattacharya
What more proof is needed for that than the hordes &
hordes of viewers, who voted for it online in the popular
segment of the Academy Awards…!

Best Serial - Comedy (Jury)
NAYA OFFICE OFFICE
EAGLE FILMS PVT. LTD. - RAJIV MEHRA
Arre, till how far you can make people
laugh?
Not much, did you say? Well, perish the
thought - Office-Office has been doing
that since eons and without an iota of
quality loss, mind you!
This is their nth ITA trophy and for all you
know, they may be winning N member
of them more. You can’t stop quality,
can you?
Here is a toast to the terrific ticklers…
Cheerio…!
Roop Kumar Rathod to Darshan Dave
Best Actor - Drama (Jury)
Best Actress - Drama (Jury)
If he is there in a mall, perhaps, no necks will be craning towards
him. That’s because he hasn’t had the rocket-launcher of a
topsy channel.
What a feat!
Darshan Dave (Ghar Ek Sapana)
But that does not take away from the sheer artistry with which
he has chiselled his multi-facted performance in Ghar Ek Sapna.
And that’s what mattered to the Jury! As a result, there he was,
bouncing onto the stage with spring in his feet to receive the
coveted ITA trophy for the Best Actor…!
Shabaash...!
70 | GR8! | JANUARY 2008
Sarita Joshi (Ba Bahu Aur Baby)
Holding an entire serial on her shoulders even when
being on the wrong side of sixty! Generally, that’s the age
when people either bid adieu or cave in to the fate of a
stray role here and there. She is a burning exception to
all such generalities!
And her mastery over her craft has been simply
unquestionable. In ‘Ba Bahu…’, she has raised the bar
for acting on Television. Trust us, emoting a scene will
never be the same again, if you know what Sarita Joshi
has done with her Ba.
Salaam…!

POPULAR & JURY ITA AWARDS 2007
ANCHOR Mandira Bedi & Sharad Kelkar
Best Actor (Popular)
Rajat Tokas
DHARTI KA VEER YODHA “PRITHVIRAJ CHAUHAN”
Wow!
The bachcha ban gaya hero sachcha! The adolescent Prithviraj,
played by Rajat, ruled the viewers’ heart – so much so, that the adult
Prithviraj was been left dangling in wait for upwards of 2 yrs.
Children of all ages hanker after him. He is their star and who cares
what the adults say (they aren’t saying anything adverse, anyway!).
The young ones voted for him like there is no tomorrow. And it just
became only too predictable – his winning the Best Actor – Popular,
that is!
Wallaah…!
74 | GR8! | JANUARY 2008
Best Actress (Popular)
Divyanka Tripathy
Banoo Main Teri Dulhan
Ah! Those glinting eyes, that silken smile and that jingle-bell voice
- you couldn’t possibly ask for a more charming Dulhan.
We are not saying this - India says so, as is evident from our
Popular-poll, wherein heaps and heaps of votes were polled in her
favour.
Today, she is having a ball with all the attention lavished on her.
There are moist eyes in drawing rooms when she cries and they
glow when she giggles. What more could one ask?
Lagi Raho Dulhania…!
POPULAR & JURY ITA AWARDS 2007
Shahid Kapoor to Pankaj Kapur
Best Actor – (Comedy)
Pankaj Kapur
NAYA OFFICE OFFICE
What can you say about
him that has not been
said before? He is the
last word in whatever he
does. He can move you
to tears and he can drive
you nuts with guffaws
through his comic act. If
versatility has a name, it
would be Pankaj Kapur.
And he has been
enthralling The ITA Juries
year after year to pluck
off the Best-Actor award
for his bumbling, fumbling
and so very touching
Musaddilal…!
Hail to thee, O’ Lord
Pankaj...!
Paternal hug…
Shahid Kapoor &
Pankaj Kapur
Best Actress - (Comedy)
Sucheeta Trivedi
BAA BAHOO AUR BABY
Actors move heaven and earth to make you cry with them, when they cry on
the screen. But she is just the opposite. She cries so that you may laugh.
That’s Sucheeta for you, whose whining & pining Menakshi has been sending
the viewers in splits. The ITA Jury recognised this tornado of a comic talent with
the Best Actress – Comedy Award…!
Tears...!

Zac & Anushka Ranjan
Best Director - Drama (Jury)
Santram Verma
Mere Baal Best…
Akansha Ranjan with friends
VIRRUDH
Even as he had his moorings in the Saas-Bahu clan, in Virrudh, he has
dished out something totally different. Herein, he has handled familial
relations with a deftness that makes you sit up and take notice.
His ability of crafting a scene has never been in doubt. But here he
comes with a promise that goes farther than mere technique. Here he
delivers a fare that is intensely emotional – and not the breast-beating
type, mind you!
We are waiting for more, Santy boy – keep it up…!
Wait, my day will come…
Ajay Krish
Barkha Bisht to Rajiv Mehra
Best Director – Comedy (Jury)
Rajiv Mehra
NAYA OFFICE OFFICE
With his goatee and the no-nonsense air, he looks more of some
gruff & grumpy professor than one who can tickle you pink. But that’s
what he actually does and does it with such hungama that leaves you
huffing and puffing with laughter.
His winning the Best Director – Comedy has also become only too
predictable – but can the Jury help it? Especially when it concerns the
high-priest of hilarity – Rajiv Mehra…!
Hip Hip Hurray...!

Aditya Narayan from Udit Narayan
Idea Glamour Star Of The Year - (Male)
Aditya Narayan
SA RE GA MA PA
Haan, yaar!
He is the latest heartthrob around! Just look at the girls looking at him!
Gosh! How batty can those glances be that are thrown towards him
– totally dripping with drool!
They smack their lips and sigh & sob (if no one is looking) - it’s a mad,
mad, mad, mad world out there for the lad!
And he treads through it with a nonchalance that is the stuff stars
are made of. And a star he definitely is - also a glam one at that, what
with his milky complexion, chiselled features and his ada & attitude.
Naturally, the country voted him as the new Prince-charming of the
small screen!
Loverly… Loverly… Loverly, indeed…!
Idea Glamour Star Of The Year - (Female)
Priyanka Bassi
BETIYAAN APNI YA PARAYA DHAN
She walks in beauty – but aren’t there others who can stake
equal claim to that description! Yes - but what makes Priyanka
stand apart is her overall personality and not only her looks.
She has an inner glow that exudes from her eyes. The way she
walks, talks and carries herself, it makes heads turn instantly.
She is articulate and positive. There is a purity about her which
engages you.
And no two opinions about her star status on the small screen after all, doesn’t she attract numerous eyeballs in Left Right Left?
What? A date with her? Well, dream on…!
80 | GR8! | JANUARY 2008
POPULAR & JURY ITA AWARDS 2007
Best Actor In A Supporting Role
Paresh Ganatra
Baa bahu baby
Sure, secure and special - that’s what Paresh Ganatra has always
been. This is more than evident in ‘Ba Bahu Aur Baby’ where he
creates the lovable rogue Pravin and clicks with the viewers like
a house on fire!
He is to ‘Ba Bahu Aur Baby’ what salt is to sabzi. But being so
indispensable does not make him snug as a bug in the rug. On
the contrary, he is always on his toes to touch newer highs in his
performance…
And we’re loving it, Paresh – keep the good work going…!
ANCHOR Sunil Grover
Best Actress In A Supporting Role
Achint Kaur
Virrudh
Dark, gaunt and with a husky voice - she is not everybody’s
idea of an actress. But what the hell, she is as good as they
come and the kind of aura she brings to her characters is
simply magical!
She has never rested on her laurels and goes on reinventing
herself all the time. In Virrudh, she has essayed what is
perhaps the widest spectrum of emotions and that too,
without going overboard.
Her control over her roles is amazing! ‘Bravo!’ is what you
automatically exclaim at her giving such a sterling account of
herself…!
God promise...!
Best Actor in a Negative Role
Rajesh Khattar
KUM KUM
Come to think of it - he is perhaps the worst prey to neglect
from those who matter in the TVdom. That’s how an actor of
his calibre, who should be working double shifts, gets roles that
are pathetically few and far between.
But that does not take anything away from his dexterity over
his craft. In each of the roles that have come his way, he has
surprised us with his range and refinement as an actor. In
‘Kum Kum’ he surfaced at his foxiest best… we hate him but
cannot take our eyes off him either!
Grrrrr… and glory, ho…!

2007 Hitz
Woman!
Bharat Jain (Atria Mall) with family
Even the Yogi’s leave their Yog for
her – but do they have a clue to
her mind? Ask our Yogi’s Kushal
Punjabi & Chaitanya. The poor dears
are stung with cupid’s arrows after
having an eyeful of Jennifer Winget.
They whirl and twirl around her but lo
& behold - she just toys with them a
bit and then makes off with another
hunk (Manish Raisinghani in a short
but smouldering appearance).
Yearning Yogi’s…
Kushal Punjabi, Jenifer Winget
& Chaitany Chaudhary
Told through such swinging number
as Hare Ram Hare Ram, You’re my
mind-blowing Mahia, this tale of the
tutti-frutti Yogi’s melting at the hottie

Best Actress in a Negative Role
Ashwini Kalsekar
KASAMH SE
She strides with a swagger worthy of queens. Her
whole persona oozes power and when it is used to
negative ends - the impact is electric!
An actress par excellence, she has found her treasuretrove in Jigyasa (Kasamh Se) - a role that gives her a
complete spectrum of negativity!
And she plays the poisonous with such delectable
relish that it sends you reeling with hate…!
And that’s how we love you most, Ashwini!
Hurrah to the hateful…!
Best Child Artiste
SWEENI KHARA
BAA BAHOO AUR BABY
Ah! That little bundle of brouhaha!
She is a wonder thunder of small screen! When she
walks, she walks on cloud nine…when she talks, she
talks nineteen to a dozen… and when she blasts, she
blasts the day-lights out of you… such an Aafat ki Pudia,
this Sweeni…!
As a child actor, she is matchless, as she never acts
- she behaves. Her stares & glares, her bak-bak, her
khit-khit… all make her to be someone whom you just
cannot resist.
Sweeni has already seen it all, done it all - ask Amitabh
Bachchan, who thinks the world of her as a darling doll,
who gives dread to her co-actors and steals the scene!
Buck up Sweeni, the halla & rasgulla…!

Bhawana Balsawar
She is the Bai!
And be careful, mere bhai!
Don’t you dare think of only Jhadoo Katka when
you think of her! She is the Bai of today, who has
blossomed in the times of Television.
Krishna, Amit Mistry & Bhawana Balsawar
SAKKU
BAAI
TV...
That’s why you are very shortly going to have her
Saku Bai TV - all set to knock the daylights out
of you.
She gabbles and babbles nineteen to a dozen
and once again, don’t you dare call it poppycock,
as whatever she is bak-baking, is actually the
jargon of our present-day Television. You have
no choice but to inject it into your bloodstream
and no Amitabh Bachchan is out there to give
you four choices about it. There is only one
choice - gulp down the Sakkuspeak as your
Gangajal and don’t even think of an argument.
Once you give up and cave in, you will be treated
to a heady medley of Sakku Bai Soaps, Sakku
Bai Breaking News, Sakku Bai Reality-shows,
Sakku Bai… gasp, gasp, gasp…!
Ha ha ha!
Bhawana Balsawar, Amit Mistry, Ashiesh Roy & Suraj Thapar
Got it? That was the spoof staged at the event
and what a blast it was! It had the audience
rolling with laughter and the satire on TVwalas
lurking in it did prickle them like a needle… but
the real TVwalas didn’t mind and broke into
bouts of laughter with seeti’s & shouts.
The act was studded with some real gems of
one-liners and the giggly gang, cast to deliver
them, had the whale of a time doing that.
Bhavna Balsawar was a riot as Sakku Bai and
Ashish Roy’s take-off on the Bengali Bhadra Lok
was no less rip-roaring. The rest of the cast, Amit
Mistry, Jumma, Shivani etc. also chipped in with
equally sparkling bits to make it an ensemble of
the crackliest kind.
And they are still laughing out there!
If you haven’t seen it, you ain’t seen nothing!
Don’t miss the telecast, then, on the 31st
December (9pm, Star Plus).
Statutory Warning:
Don’t deprive yourself of the biggest & the last
treat of 2007…
It’s howlarious…!

Best Anchor - Talk/Chat Show (Jury)
Karan Johar
KOFFEE WITH KARAN
Lo jee! Akhir it happened, na? The behind-the-camera maverick did
come in front of it and swept everybody off his/her feet!
They say he has been gabby, if not downright garrulous, since his
tiny-tot days. But my, my! To what an advantage he has put his
chatty charms and come out with flying colours in his avatar as a
Talk/Chat show host!
Take a bow, Karan! The ITA Lady in glass is yours for keeps…
Congrats, bidu…!
Best Anchor
News / Current Affairs Show (Jury)
CYRUS BROACHA
THE WEEK THAT WASN’T
Silly Cyrus, Satanic Cyrus, Super Cyrus… that’s how they call him
variously. And tell you what - he is actually all of that and more! But
this time, he has surpassed even himself, i.e. from the silly, satanic,
super he has become – Serious Cyrus!
Well, almost…!
And don’t you worry – his funny bone remains intact and those
signature jibes and barbs are still in place… only he has become a bit
different – you know, the in-depth type, with ‘The Week That Wasn’t’.
Furthermore, he has added bite to his bark – the bite of sarcasm on
life & living. That’s how he picked up the gauntlet of hosting a News/
Current Affairs Show!
And trust us, he is a riot even in that…!
Best Anchor/Host Male (Populor)
Rajdeep Sardesai
The name is enough!
One mention of it and you sit up and take notice. You savour the
slug-fests he creates among celebrities of all hues. He puppeteers
them and while they are dancing to his tune, he tears their masks
and shows their real faces to his viewers.
And do the viewers believe him?
Well! This year’s ITA Popular Poll would stand testimony to that,
where they’ve voted for him in heaps. And why not? Today, he
manoeuvres an entire channel for them, sifting facts from fiction
and giving them what no one else ever gives or can give!
Attaboy, Rajdeep…!

PERFORMANCE ITA AWARDS 2007
Best Anchor/Host Female (Populor)
Barkha Dutt
She is the queen-bee of our electronic journalism!
They wait with baited breath for her next exposé, her next rip-off.
She strips hypocrisy and scoops the real out of the unreal poses &
postures of our society.
As a host of uniquely in-depth shows, she startles, shocks and
stuns with her insights and analyses. She has the courage of her
convictions and a dare that can stare in the face of the mightiest of
them all.
That’s why she has the trust of the nation… that’s why she is Barkha
Dutt, the non-pareil!
Attagirl, Barkha...!
Best anchor - game/
quiz show
Arshad warsi
BIG BOSS
Circuit did an about turn!
From the sadak-chhap tapori, he became a suave host in the
Indian avatar of Big Boss. But that circuit humour remained intact
and the feisty way with which he puppeteered the inmates of the
‘House’ was such a treat to watch!
Indeed, he can charm you into eating out of his hands with an
ease that is well and truly amazing. There is an air of kadak
confidence about him. Actually, hosting is an entirely different ballgame from acting, but he took to it like a fish takes to water.
That’s confidence! And that won him Television’s biggest signet of
excellence - the ITA trophy!
Balle oye, Balle…!
Best Anchor - Music/Film-Based Show

They are the headlights of the gaddi called Boogie Woogie. Sharp,
spiky and snappy, they in anchoring the show, they are so zingy &
zany as to send the viewers in peals of laughter!
Boogie Woogie is dance-show and Javed & Naved have dancing
bones in them (particularly Javed!). Boogie Woogie is also a children’s
