EXCHANGE GEARBOX PROGRAM INFORMATION
Sundyne Corporation offers rebuilt gearboxes on an exchange basis for users not wishing
to purchase a new gearbox. Upon receipt of the order for an exchange (rebuilt) gearbox,
we will ship a re-built gearbox along with a Return Material Authorization tag number and
instructions for returning the old gearbox to Sundyne Corp. for credit. The model number of
the gearbox used in the exchange determines the credit amount. Return authorization for a
gearbox is issued only when an exchange gearbox is ordered. A user should never
return a gearbox without a return material number and authorization from Sundyne
Corp.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
a) All orders for gearboxes must include the pump/compressor serial number.
b) Normal lead-time is two weeks for standard gearboxes. Modified gearboxes or those with
special metallurgy shafts may require additional lead-time.
To obtain expedited lead-time for gearboxes, please contact your Sundyne products’ local
Representative for assistance.
c) Credit for returned gearboxes is issued upon receipt at our factory.
The full credit amount is allowed when the gearbox is received within 60 days after receipt of
new exchange (90 days when a national border is crossed). After 60 days (90 days), 50% of
the credit amount will be issued.
d) Exchange gearboxes are shipped from the factory without the oil filter, manifold and heat
exchanger. It is the user’s responsibility to remove the manifold from their current unit
and re-mount on the new exchange gearbox before startup.
The user should also remove any gearbox kits (such as sump heaters, pressure
switches, vibration probes, etc.) from their current unit to mount on the new exchange
gearbox.
e) The user should wait until they receive the new exchange gearbox before returning the old
gearbox for credit.
f)
The user must drain and decontaminate the gearbox prior to returning. If the process fluid is
hazardous, customer MUST flush the gearbox prior to its return. The RMA Tag must be
completely filled out, and an MSDS for ALL pumped fluids (excluding pure water service)
MUST accompany the returned gearbox - or it will be rejected and returned to user at their
expense, until such paperwork can be provided. An MSDS is not required for the actual
gearbox oil.
g) Rebuilt/exchange gearboxes carry the same Sundyne Corp. standard warranty as new
gearboxes

EXCHANGE GEARBOX PROGRAM INFORMATION (Continued)
SPECIAL COMMENTS CONCERNING SUNDYNE GEARBOXES
1. Bearing Liners - Bearing liners are not available as a spare part. In 1971, Sundyne Corporation’s
engineers determined that bearing liners could not be successfully replaced in the field. Users must
purchase the complete gearbox housing or bearing plate required when bearing liners need to be
replaced.
The liners are group-sized by the outside diameter and are selected at the time of assembly to
provide a correct press fit and to control final inside diameter after insertion. Finally, the liners are
locked into place by a special factory process.
2. 400 HP Gearbox Idler Shaft Sleeve & Thrust Washer - In June of 1981, SL01AG02 shaft sleeve
and WA05AG02 thrust washer were replaced by SL01AG03 as a sleeve/washer. The SL01AG03
would fit on the old style idler shaft SH05AG10 and on the new helical style shaft SH02AG02XX.
In November of 1981, part number SL01AG03 was made obsolete and replaced by SL01AG04,
which cannot be sold as a spare because it is a semi-finished part. It is machined integral in the idler
shaft SH02AG02XX. Part number SL01AG03 is available for those customers who still have the old
straight-cut style gears.
3. High Speed Shaft (Item 130) - On 200 and 400 HP gearboxes (311 & 331), the high speed shaft
assembly (Item A130) requires special assembly of the gear to shaft and requires extremely
critical low tolerance dynamic balancing. Because of the special assembly and balancing
requirement, Sundyne Corporation will only provide the complete high-speed shaft assemblies,
not the high-speed shaft by itself.
4. Gearbox Vibration Probes: Gearboxes are NOT supplied with probes/key phasers unless
expressly stated in the purchase order. Contact your local Representative for price adders and
delivery impact to modify new or exchange gearboxes to accept vibration probes/key phasers.
