Armed with skill and ingenuity, the chefs and their sous chefs from SD34 career programs will race against the clock
to turn mystery local ingredients into an extraordinary appetizer and entrée to win the “Save-On-Foods Abbotsford Top
Local Chef for 2016.”
CHEF JACQUELINE CLARK
Jacqueline grew up in the prairies where her love
of local produce and cooking started. Recently
she was a contestant on a reality TV cooking
show where she placed 9th in the nation. She
has since worked in the kitchens of Nicli’s Next
Door (Vancouver), and S + L Langley. Currently
she is out of the kitchen and working towards her
ultimate dream of owning land and raising her
own hogs and vegetables.

CHEF NICK VACCHIANO
Originally from Ontario, Nick has an Italian
background with a strong passion for Italian foods
and ingredients. He graduated at Algonquin Culinary
College in Ottawa with classical french cuisine/red
seal certification, now over 20 years ago.
Chef Nick has worked in the food industry for
several large hotels including Fairmont Banff
Springs and a chef de partie position at Fairmont
Chateau Lake Louise and is now the market chef
at Lepp Farm Market.

CHEF MICHEL GAGNON
Always passionate about food, he can create
everything from delicious greasy spoon options to
exquisite fine dining. Chef Michel has worked for
Disney Cruise Ships, the Westin Whistler, Sonora
Resort & Wendel’s Bookstore & Cafe. Michel is
Head Chef at Tradex, in Abbotsford; revamping
the culinary offerings for the event cafe and
larger private caterings. He takes pleasure in
connecting with the local foodie community,
and his heart lies in simple, fresh food with
delicious bold flavours.
CHEF MAT WEGENER
An experienced red seal certified chef, Chef
Mat Wegener is currently working at the Quality
Hotel and Conference Centre in Abbotsford. His
love for cooking began at home with his family as
a young child, and he began his formal training
in grade 12 in the Abby Collegiate Trades
Program. He continued to hone his cooking
skills and completed his training at Cascade
Culinary School and Vancouver Career College.
