The Gown of Her Dreams “Breathtakingly Beautiful describes the” First Wedding Dress
designed for Barbie (Wedding Day Set) #972 1959 – 62. Created with exquisite
detailing, this white satin gown, whose tulle has a delicate long-sleeved bodice, features a
double-tiered skirt with a cathedral train of flower-flocked tulle. Fabric, flowers, lace and
ribbon streamers form her bouquet, and her long plain white tulle veil flows down from
the halo of simulated pearls. The accessories provide the traditional: “Something Old”
(her Mother’s graduated Pearl Choker). “Something New” (White open–toe Pumps)
“Something Borrowed” (Short white gloves) “Something Blue” (a Garter accented with
Flowers) to bring luck to the Beautiful Bride.
This Month June 2002, I had volunteer to do the NS Barbie Doll Club Newsletter. Now
we know why Val retired. Not an easy job to collect data for the newsletter. I believe
with the Internet access, we can retrieve all kinds of data, photos etc. I wanted to put lots
of photos of our girls in the newsletter. As I am a collect of Vintage Dolls & Clothes. I
am sorry I can not comment on the New Collectors Series Barbie. But I after getting a
close up look this past weekend; I can see why the gals collect this new series silk stone.
They are very beautiful, very much like a Porcelain dolls (which I love.)
This newsletter was edited and published for the Web by Rebecca Douglass.
This was listed as Paper Dolls? I thought it was cool Photo what ever it is….

June 1, 2002 Minutes
Nova Scotia Barbie Club
It was a Beautiful Sunny, hot Saturday afternoon. The girls arrived at 1 PM. This
meeting was rerouted to Rebecca‘s house as most of the girls could not attend. In
attendance was President - Rebecca from Dartmouth; Vice President - Minnie from
Moncton and Treasurer - Sandi from Halifax. The Programme was JUNE BRIDES.
The minutes of last meeting were pasted. Bank Balance on Hand $137.31 no
expenditures, same balance as March 2002 meeting. Rebecca stated that it was her turn
to do the newsletter for the Club. She said that she would have the photos online later in
the week. She hoped to be able to post the newsletter online as well. That will be done
as she has set up a web site for the NS Barbie Club at her email server. We got on with
the programme taking pictures and playing with the Barbie’s.
Minnie’s husband Lee and Son made her a Bridal Shop, Called “Cheryl’s Bridal
Boutique.” Minnie had made a Bridal shop for her daughter many years ago out of an
Ironing board box. There were lots of Barbie’s in Bridal Gowns and many more dresses
to choose from in the compartments. Also she had made accessories: cakes, flowers,
purses, fans, shoes, etc. Rebecca had the Runway set up with a display of Vintage
Barbie’s in Vintage Wedding Gowns and attendants. Sandi brought her Brides from the
Gene Doll Series. Photos of all these items can be seen online.

After we played with our Barbie dolls we had Tea and Wacky Cake. Rebecca gave
copies of the recipe to the girls; also she made copies of the Last month programme “Ten
Hats for Barbie”, also copies of the Victorian Bridal Gown for Barbie. The door prize
was given by Rebecca as she won the last one. Two Prizes: New Barbie Wedding Gown
won by Minnie; Sandi won a 1976 Marie Osmond Doll. Then we had the Show & Tell.
NEXT MEETING IS SCHUDELED FOR AUGUST 3, 2002. We discussed that was
the LONG WEEKEND Natal Day & NB DAY. First Monday’s of the Month. Program
is BARBIE’S VACATION. We thought we should change it, as many people might be
away that weekend. What would be a good date for everyone? Or should we leave it at
that Date? Please advice

BORN TO BE SINGLE
This Lady is now 43 years Young. My
thought is that she will never get married
to Ken her Long Time Boyfriend.
Mattel has designed many Barbie Brides
threw the years, and gowns. Barbie has
accomplished many Different
Professional Careers in her Life. So I
would say that she should be a Wealthy
Women by Now. Who Needs Ken!!
Well in this picture! It looks like
American Girl Barbie is getting
married to Ken!! That’s a laugh!!

Bubble Cut Barbie’s. (FYI)
Some differences in the Bubble Cuts; as we learn more it will get easier. So go
pull out all your bubbles right now and let’s make a comparison of what you
have.
In 1961, Mattel introduced a new hair style. A bouffant or Bubble Cut. The
1961 Bubble Cut was on a Barbie Body. She also had a very tight, shorter hair
cut. The lip color remained bright red. This Barbie was dressed in the black
and white swimsuit. The 1961 Bubble also suffered from the "greasy face"
syndrome that the 1961 PT's also had.
In 1962 the nail color and lip color began to vary from a pale pink to a bright
red. The swimsuit was now a red one piece jersey suit.
The 1963 Bubble was on a Barbie/Midge body. She had a much fuller hair cut.
There were now a very large variety of hair colors that ranged from platinum
to blond to brunette, to jet black. There were many lip and nail colors to
accompany their hair colors.
And ...here is how to tell what Blonde is what. Both the Ash and the Platinum
may turn wheat in color after 30 + years, although some platinum’s go lemony,
orangey or brassy. Ash Blondes have coral lips and Platinum’s have pink lips,
(which may have oxidized to white..... and some all the way to white.)
White Ginger is similar to the Platinum blonde but only was used on bubble
cuts sold in 1961, which were on the Barbie Bodies and had red nail color. The
White Gingers often oxidized to a more yellowy, brassy blonde whereas
platinum’s didn't. White Gingers also have more pinkish/lavender lips that
didn't fade to white. So to summarize the White Ginger Bubble, she had the
tighter bubble cut, the greasy face, on a Barbie Body and the purplish/pink
lips..... NOT WHITE. White Gingers will NOT (no never) have coral or pink
lips. Their lips should be the purplish/pink, and not the lavender color that the
platinum’s oxidize to. Their hair is shiny, and their eyes are an aquamarine
color with smoky shadow.
The Jet black bubble came on a Barbie Body and also had the tighter bubble
cut. She is known for her big red lips.
