TENNIS TIP: Perfect Practice Makes Perfect
From Joe Perrone, Director of Tennis – Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club
When we practice, good or bad, those become our habits and our habits determine who we are on the tennis court. The
most effective method of perfect practice is to repetitively hit a tennis ball to the same target over and over off a ‘live’ ball
rather than a “fed” ball. This forces you to make adjustments to the ball that is necessary to playing better tennis.
Here are a few perfect practice tips that can make your court time more productive.
1. Drill repetitively. Drill shots, hit to targets. Be accurate and precise for better shot making.
2. Don’t focus on the easy shots. Practice the tough shots. When the ball is away, go get it.
When it’s out of reach, jump for it. Run – Hustle - Recover. These are building blocks for better court coverage.
3. Practice with purpose. When you play a practice match, have goals. Winning the practice match is less important
than working on your game. If you don’t try the shots in a practice match, than you will never try them in a
match that counts.
