Division Officer’s Reports
Florida Division Director
Mrs. Joni Connor Little
The Florida Division CofC is alive and well with 15 chapters. Three UDC
chapters have expressed interest in chartering/re-activating a CofC chapter
in each of their respective areas. What better way to grow our CofC
membership!
The children had an exciting time riding in the Battle of Olustee Parade in Lake City, FL.
Florida Division President Hannah Harper rode in a wagon with other members of the Florida
Division. CofC President General Jessica Sizemore rode with Florida Division UDC President
Stephanie Murphy. After the parade the children watched the battle reenactment at the Olustee
Battle Field.
Division President Hannah Harper was introduced and brought greetings at the UDC workshop
in Ocala. Hannah successfully sold raffle tickets on her CofC Jubilee Scholarship fundraiser
basket. The ladies were also challenged to give a $1.00 to the Diamond Jubilee Scholarship.
The proceeds from the basket and the $1.00 challenge came to $325.00. Thanks to all who
attended workshop and donated. We are now $325.00 closer to our goal of raising $3000.00
towards the CofC General Organization’s Project, under the leadership of CofC General
President Jessica Sizemore.
The children were well represented at the Gamble Plantation Christmas Open House where
they spent the day as docents in the room presented as the Office on the ground floor of the
Mansion. CofC members represented Black Hawk Cavalry 856, Canaveral Light Stars & Bars
2358, Elizabeth Abernathy 17, Manatee Confederate Mansion 724 and Joel Henry Estes 878.
The Division Officers held their second Board Meeting during their lunch time on the grounds
of the Mansion. Division President Hannah Harper conducted the meeting where the officers
discussed their projects and the June Division Convention.
Our next event is the Spring Board meeting held in Plant City, FL. February 28, 2015.
Thanks for supporting the CofC!

Hello everyone,
I hope that everyone is having a great New Year! I know that everyone is very
busy so all I can say is keep up the hard work.
In February, I went to the UDC spring workshop in Ocala, where I was
honored to bring greetings from the Florida CofC Division. It was fun
spending time with those lovely UDC women. They are wonderful CofC
supporter who helped me raise money for the Diamond Jubilee Scholarship,
and the Florida Division. Just last week, I joined others as we rode in the
Olustee reenactment parade. While it was cold, we bundled together, Division Director Ms.
Joni Connor-Little, Secretary Jordan Jenkins and Jacob Jenkins as we waved to the many people who also braved the cold to see us. We missed everyone who was not able to make it. After the parade I had the opportunity to watch the battle reenactment with UDC
Florida Division President Ms. Stephanie Murphy on stage. The day ended with some
shopping and a new pair of shoes.
This next weekend I look forward to meeting with our Division Board for our Spring Board
meeting and spending some fun time with them. It is hard to believe that our convention is just
around the corner. Start making plans to join us for one awesome convention. Information will
be coming out soon.

First Vice President
Hailey Jenkins
Hello all you wonderful CofC kids. I have been so proud to hear of all the great
projects you guys have been involved with. We really are an awesome group of
kids! Like all of you, I too have stayed busy with various projects. Some of my
favorite things our chapter has been doing is collecting pop top tabs for Ronald
McDonald House, organized a Coats for Kids collection to get warm coats for kids in our area
this winter, participated in a shoe donation program for those who need slightly used shoes in
3rd world countries, and collected food the Backpack weekend food program for local kids who
go hungry on the weekends. We have also been collecting flags for a proper retirement
ceremony scheduled for March.
I have not received any insignia orders this quarter. Let’s get those pins ordered so we can
wear them proudly at convention. I hope all of you are making plans to attend our Division
Convention as well as go to Appomattox this year for the General Convention. This is where all
the fun is at. Hope to see you there. Get involved! Keep up the good work! And for goodness
sake, let’s get some insignia ordered!
Second Vice President
Paige Wallnofer
Hello Again! It's been busy since our last issue, we've had Gamble, and are
now preparing for a Division Board meeting! I can tell you, the year flies by! I
would like to remind members if they are preparing to age out, to please
remember to apply for our Division Scholarships. Apply for the UDC and
CofC General scholarships. They have different due dates and requirements,
so if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me for information, my email is
[email protected]. I will be more than happy to get you the information. I will have
tickets for my raffle to raise funds for Division Scholarships going out in the next week. I also
have a contest planned at Convention to raise funds to meet my goal of $300 for Division
Scholarship funds.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Convention.

Third Vice President

The year is quickly flying by and I have not received any new membership
forms. I know that many of you are working on getting new members. I know
that my chapter is working on several new members’ papers and hope to have
them done soon. I hope to receive the paper work for all new members we are
working on in the near future. If you need a new membership forms they are on
the CofC website under the member’s only section. Let’s go find all the new members we can!
Recording Secretary
Jordyn Jenkins
Hello everyone. I have had so much fun this year participating in projects with
my CofC Chapter. We have been collecting pennies for our President General
Jessica Sizemore’s Diamond Jubilee Scholarship project. My brother and I have
taken the extra step of looking for coins on the ground to add to the collection
can. We have been surprised by how much change we have found just lying
around. We also hassle our parents to let us have their coins when they get
change. Our collection can is really filling up fast! We have been involved in many more projects and attended a few festivals and re-enactments too. I love participating in and representing
the CofC. I encourage you all to get involved as much as you can and definitely plan on coming
out to Division and General Conventions if you can. You will have a blast!
Treasurer
Virginia Wallnofer
Hello Again! I hope this finds everyone well! Since the last Dixie Diary, I've
been busy collecting change for the Million Penny Challenge to go towards the
Diamond Jubilee Scholarship. I know My chapter, is doing well with it,
especially with help from our Mother Chapter. We are quickly approaching the
time of year when contributions are made by the individual chapters. I would
highly recommend that we focus on our scholarship funds and on the Division
Operating fund. Both of those are priorities!
I can't wait to see everyone in June at Convention.

I am looking forward to many visits to our wonderful Florida Springs and all
the other places we will be visiting this summer. Though I must say the springs
are normally quite chilly. At Blue Springs there are many gar as well as other
species of unusual fish. In January we visited Blue Springs and toured the
three story Thursby House and learned about the family who settled there in
1856. At the historic home there were plenty of cool things to learn about,
including pictures of the steamboats that used to travel the St John’s River. I am eager to earn
my Junior Ranger badge at Blue Springs. That is certainly a fun program for us kids! You get
a badge for learning great facts while searching the park for answers. Come join us for this
wonderful adventure!
We will be back at Blue Springs on May 20th for a swimming good time. Also, we will be at
Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach on June 10th and would love to meet up with our CofC
friends!
Chaplain
Zoe Miller
Greetings! These past months has been busy with school and Chaplain
duties.
September, I brought greetings at the Constitution Week Luncheon in
Jacksonville, Florida. Then, I squeezed in a meeting with my chapter,
Raymond J. Reid, C of C. with a very interesting program on the" Maple Leaf". October, I
attended the CofC/UDC Luncheon at the United Daughters of the Confederacy 119th Annual
Convention in Jacksonville, Florida. November, I rode in the Veterans Day Parade. December, I
attended the British Night Watch in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. February, Sebastian and I
will attend the George Washington Luncheon at Marsh Landing in Jacksonville.
A big thank you to my CofC chapter, Raymond J. Reid, for Honoring me in the UDC magazine
in January.
Please let me know if I can assist you or your family with any matters relating to Chaplain,
please contact me. I am here for you.
May the Lord be with us, and bless us, and let His Light shine upon us.

It has been an exciting few months around here! We are getting ready for the
Battle of Narcoossee Mill on March 28th and 29th , in St Cloud, Florida.
Sarah and I will be serving at the Ladies Tea! Please come out and join us
for the day! Also, we will be participating in two Confederate Memorial Day
Services in April – make sure you mark your calendars to attend your local
Memorial!
Fascinating Flags! The flag below represents the 1st and 3rd Consolidated Florida Infantry
Regiment. The names of the battles the men served in as part of the Army of the Mississippi
and later the Army of the Tennessee, tell only a small fraction of the story. Men came together
from far flung places to fight for the Southland. My Great Great Uncle Albert E Pardue served
in the 2nd Tennessee alongside the Florida boys at Shiloh and Chickamauga. I challenge each
of you to learn a new fact about your ancestor’s service that you can share with us at Division
Convention in June.

Well here another wonderful issue of the Dixie Diary. It is great to see what
all the officers are doing and some of our chapters. We need to get more
chapters to submit articles. It is a great tool for other chapters to learn what
we do all around the State of Florida. The next deadline will be April
30, 2015. It will be my last issue for this term, so please place this date on
your calendar. I hope that each chapter will consider placing an article and/or pictures. There
is no cost so there is no excuse for not submitting something! There is also a calendar of
events in the back so let me know if you have something scheduled.
If you have any questions or comments, please email me at [email protected] or my mom
at [email protected]. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Convention!

The youngest soldier in the Civil War was a 9-year-old boy from Mississippi. The oldest was
an 80-year-old from Iowa. More than 10,000 soldiers serving in the Union Army were under
18 years old.
Virginia experienced the most fighting during the Civil War—more than 2,100 events, followed by Tennessee (1,400) and Missouri (1,100)

President General
Jessica Sizemore
Happy 2015!! I hope everyone has had a great start to the New Year!
The CofC is having a yearlong celebration of our Diamond Jubilee! And we are
going to celebrate this right by fully funding our new Diamond Jubilee
Scholarship. To do this, we need to raise $30,000. While this is a large number,
with everyone’s help, we can obtain the goal. If each Chapter raises $200 or as much as they
can towards the $200, we will be well on our way to the $30,000. This may be a big goal for
some Chapters and easy for others. If this is an easy goal for your Chapter, help make up the
difference for another Chapter. If we all work together, we can do what has never been done
before and raise all the money to fully fund this scholarship in one year.
Another way we are raising money for the scholarship is through the sale of our Diamond
Jubilee Pin. The pin was approved by the CofC at our General Convention in Texarkana, and by
the UDC at their General Convention in Richmond. This means that we can all wear the pin.
All of the proceeds from this pin will be used to help fund the Diamond Jubilee Scholarship.
You can buy a pin from Mrs. Laura or me if you see us in person or you can order by using the
CofC Non-engraved Insignia Order Form. Thank you for your continued support of the CofC
and for buying our Diamond Jubilee Pin.
In CofC Love,

Hey Everyone! It was great seeing some of y’all at Christmas Open House in
December. If you have never made it down to the Gamble Plantation, mark
your calendars for this year! It is always a lot of fun!
I have not received many orders lately so please fill up my mailbox! I also have
plenty of bookplates for all of the books you are going to donate to libraries.
Please continue to read War Between the States related books and report them
on your year-end reports!
I look forward to visiting with some of our Florida Division officers next weekend at their
Division Board Meeting to plan for our Division Convention! Have a great Spring Break!

The oldest Civil War monument in existence is a monument to the Union’s Hazen Brigade

So far, this year has been not only been an exciting one, but also, a very successful one. Hannah Harper was a special guest at the Florida Division
Workshop. Hannah brought greetings from the CofC and raffled a basket to
raise money for the diamond Jubilee Scholarship. The raffle was so successful that she raised over $330 for Florida Division CofC. The next weekend, it
was a pleasure to see so many of you in the carriage behind us at the parade
in Lake City for the Olustee weekend events on February 13 - 15, 2015. Everyone looked wonderful in 1860’s period attire, and in spite of the chilly temperature, you certainly were a happy,
smiling group! I was lucky to have President General Jessica Sizemore in the Florida Division
UDC carriage with me. I was also blessed to have President Harper with me on the podium for
the afternoon mini battle. We UDC members are very proud of you, and we are so pleased to
see all the things you are achieving. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Belles and Beaux 887
Ashley Barton, Director
Hello from the Belles & Beaux 887!
We are pleased to introduce our newest associate member, Miss Bayleigh Addison Rapinchuk.
She joins her brothers, Landon and Dakoda, who are already members. Her grandmother,
Frances Nettles is the UDC Tampa 113 Chaplain and was a CofC member herself. She says that
she cannot remember a time when she was not in the CofC! Bayleigh's great-grandmother, Mrs.
J.L. Alderman, was President of Tampa 113 from 1962-1964. We proudly welcome Bayleigh
and love her hat!
Over the Christmas holidays, Emory and Thomas Barton attended the Alabama Division of the
CofC's "Christmas in the South" at the Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury, Alabama. They
donated "Toys for Tots" and some decorations for the Christmas tree. They also enjoyed
interesting stories, wonderful music, a visit from Santa Claus, great food and fabulous company!
WELCOME—Miss Bayleigh Addison Rapinchuk!

Black Hawk Cavalry 856
Lindsey Hutson, President
Black Hawk Cavalry ended 2014 with a bang. We started off with the Bell Christmas Parade
with John Hance O’Steen camp. We won 1st place for Best Decorated for the theme of Country Christmas. Then we attended a Christmas party at our Director’s home with lots and lots of
cookies. From there I got to attend the Plantation Christmas with a friend and we had a great
time.
Now on to 2015: In January, we had members to attend the Lee/Jackson dinner hosted by John
Hance O’Steen camp and I was presented with several confederate items from the Commander.
We also had three new members to join our chapter: Miss Caitlyn Frisina, Mr. Chandler Frisina
and Miss Madalon McCabe. Then came February, several members attended the Olustee
Festival activities and participating at the events at the battlefield and in the battle. Everyone
seem to have a great time. We are looking forward to the next one.

Members of Joel Henry Estes 878 attended the Florida Division Christmas Open House at
Gamble Plantation in December. Members Paige and Virginia Wallnofer served as docents in
various rooms in the Mansion. Unfortunately we were unable to attend the Parade at Olustee,
but we are preparing for Division Convention in June and General Convention in July.

Lee’s Legacy 946
Judy Davis, Director
.The members
of Lee’s Legacy 946 in St. Augustine have had a busy month of February. First
the children filled bags with 120 Valentine Candy Corn and delivered them to the Lassen
Nursing Home.
Then President Evan Stroud went to the Battle of Olustee and carried the colors for the St.
Johns Rangers on the Battlefield on Saturday and Sunday. He did an outstanding job waving
the flag and dared the Yankees to try and take it!!

Greetings from the Manatee Confederate Mansion chapter! Since our last Dixie Diary article,
chapter members participated in Plantation Christmas at the Gamble Plantation in December.
Members sold baked goods and enjoyed catching up with friends from around the state. On
February 8th, one member helped docent in the Mansion for the Arts and Crafts Show hosted by
the GPPA. On February 22nd, members met for our third board meeting to review our projects
and goals and plan for Spring Open House at the Mansion.
We are continuing to work hard to meet our goals
and projects for this year!
Have a great Easter!

Marion Hornets 806
Alicia Jenkins, Director
Greetings from the Marion Hornets 806. This is certainly a busy time of the year! Members
marched in the Veterans Day Parade in Bell, FL in costume. They looked so good! Members
also travelled to the Brooksville Raid Re-Enactment and had a ball watching the battle and
visiting the shops. New dresses and accessories were purchased for the girls and Jakob got a
few new weapons. As always, the food was wonderful. We also attended a lovely tea at this
event with an informative presentation included after the refreshments were served. This was
such a treat and so beautifully done! In February, members Jordyn and Jakob Jenkins
participated in the Olustee Parade and visited the battlefield. Our chapter also donated United
States Flags to two preschools in honor of Presidents Day.
We continue to collect aluminum pop top tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to all
of the UDC ladies who save these tabs for us. We are also saving for the Wounded Warrior
Project. In December, we collected coats and shoes for the needy to be distributed through
various organizations. We have also been participating in collecting food for the veterans’ food
program as well as the backpack weekend food programs for needy kids in the area.
Hailey, Jordyn and Jakob are busy now preparing a dramatic presentation for our mother
chapter to perform for the March UDC meeting. It will include period music, costumes, and fun
with “the language of the fan.” Members are really excited to put this on for the ladies. We look
forward to a fun and busy spring!

Dr. Mary Edwards Walker was not only the first woman surgeon in U.S. Military
history, but she was also the only woman in the Civil War to be awarded the
Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest honor given to a citizen of the U.S.
She is the only female recipient of the award to date.

Children of the Confederacy® Creed
Because we desire to perpetuate, in love and honor, the heroic deeds of those who enlisted in
the Confederate Services, and upheld its flag through four years of war, we, the children of the
South, have united in an Organization called the “Children of the Confederacy,” in which our
strength, enthusiasm and love of justice can exert its influence.
We, therefore pledge ourselves to preserve pure ideals; to honor the memory of our beloved
Veterans; to study and teach the truths of history (one of the most important of which is, that the
War Between the States was not a rebellion, nor was its underlying cause to sustain slavery),
and always to act in a matter that will reflect honor upon our noble and patriotic ancestors.
