The current infant formula packing has not changed significantly
over the last decade. Usually consisting of a cylindrical container
with a separate measuring spoon that holds one serving. The large
opening of the current packaging container allows for potential
contamination of formula each time the lid is opened. Opportunity
for contamination could be gained from the handle of the
measuring spoon as it in place back into the container after each
use. The task requires two hands to open the container, thus making
it difficult in situations when having to prepare the formula whilst
holding a baby. Formula from the original containers is often
transferred into smaller travel friendly container to make preparing
a bottle at home or out and about quicker and easier.
The new design aims to reduce the contamination factor of the current design as well as
making the process of preparing formula milk quicker and mess free. The shape is designed
to allow the user to obtain a comfortable grasp of the product and proceed to dispense the
formula with one hand when necessary. The sliding mechanism easily dispenses one serving
size equivalent to one scoop from traditional packaging. The size itself allows the product to
be more travel friendly and easier to transitions from at home on the bench to a maternity
bag. The closure of the design reduces the exposure to the outside environment therefore
minimising the chances of contamination. As all components are manufactured from plastic
the product can be easily separated and recycled at the end of life stage.

The plastic components allow the products to be easily recyclable
compared with the traditional metal infant formula containers. The
nature of plastic allows the overall product to be lighter which
reduces the environmental impact during the transport and
distribution stage. Additionally the slimmer size of the designs
allows for more products to be transported in each shipment.

The unique shape of the product allows it to distinctively
standout from the traditional infant formula packaging out
on the market. This will hopefully gain attraction to the
customer’s through the initial curiosity of the design. The
design of the packaging will also appeal in situations where
the user has left the travel formula container at home or have
simply ran out throughout the day and needs a more
portable product.
