The Philosophy Behind H.A.W.K.S
PBIS is a CDE initiative implemented in several CCSD schools and new to
Homestead this school year. The mission of PBIS is to establish and
maintain an effective school environment that maximizes academic
achievement and behavioral competence of all of our learners. This initiative
is designed to enhance the development of student behavior. By creating a
school-wide system of support, including proactive strategies for defining,
teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors, a positive school
environment will continually be reinforced.
Part of what makes Homestead such a great place is our students’
involvement and investment in an environment where kids can feel safe
talking about issues and help them serve as contributing members to our
caring community. PBIS is not an initiative that eliminates bullying or
magically removes the barriers to learning that occur when behaviors are
disrupting the learning community; it is one that empowers students by
providing tools and strategies to better handle bullying situations and helps
reinforce a positive climate of learning. The intent of PBIS is to provide a
safe, respectful, inclusive environment where teachers can teach and
students can learn. As part of this initiative, we will continue classroom
discussions and goal setting on a regular basis.
Homestead has adopted “HAWKS” as our PBIS acronym/pneumonic. Based
on our Homestead mascot, each letter represents characteristics that are
deeply embedded in our Homestead culture:
H – Honest
A – Achieving
W – Working Hard
K – Kind
S – Safe
The characteristics and expectations of positive “HAWKS” behavior will be
taught and reinforced throughout the school year. Also, your child may be
recognized for any of these positive behaviors through a “HAWKS” sticker
that they may proudly wear and bring home for your recognition.

SCHOOL CLOSURE AND STORM INFORMATION
When a school is on delayed start, elementary school bus pickup and school
start times are delayed 1 hour. When normal school schedules are altered,
information about these changes will be provided via the following media:
• Information will be posted on the district web site at:
www.cherrycreekschools.org. If any school schedule is
altered, the district page will automatically redirect you
to an “Important Notice” page that lists the affected
schools or click on the “School Closures” link.
• You may also get information about these changes
by calling our school area hotline (South/East area),
720‑554‑4703. Information for the hotline will be
updated by 5 a.m. daily. Please do not call the
school.
• In addition, several television and radio stations will
be notified. The following television stations will be
notified when normal school schedules are altered:
2-WB2
4-KCNC
9-KUSA
FOX 31
7-KMGH

Parking Lot Guidelines
Below are before and after school guidelines for student drop off and pick up in the back and front parking lots.
Thank you in advance for keeping the traffic flowing and for maintaining a safe environment for our students,
parents and staff.
BACK Parking Lot Guidelines:
• For everyone’s safety, please end cell phone use before entering the parking lot.
• Before dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your vehicle as far up to the crosswalk as possible.
• Please have your child enter and exit the car from the PASSENGER SIDE ONLY. • If you have dropped off your child, you may pull out and pass the cars that are curbside in order to exit
the parking lot. Please pull forward slowly and anticipate that the drop off lane merges back into one
lane after the crosswalk.
• Drivers may not exit vehicle in the drop-off lane for any reason. If you need to assist your child, please
find a parking space.
• Please use designated crosswalk when going to and from the parking lot.
FRONT Parking Lot Guidelines:
• For everyone’s safety, please end cell phone use before entering the parking lot.
• The curbside lane is the only lane in which students may be dropped off or picked up. The outer lane is
only for driving through. If there is not a parking space along the curbside lane, continue to drive slowly
around “the loop” until a curbside space becomes available.
• Before dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your vehicle up as far as possible in the drop-off/
pick-up lane. As cars move forward or pull away, continue to move your car as far forward as possible.
• Please have your child enter and exit the car from the PASSENGER SIDE ONLY.
• Vehicles may not be left unattended in the drop-off/pick-up lanes for any reason.
• Please use designated crosswalks when going to and from the parking lot.
• Please do not park where the van and bus parking signs are located.
Thank you for your support!
