Foundation, as a respected leader, inspires

The Moncton Hospital and its initiatives for
health care excellence. The Foundation

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Team
thrilled about exceeding campaign goal.

staff who donated to the Friends Annual
Campaign 2011 for the Neonatal Intensive

Thanks to our generous
donors, the Friends exceeded
its $700,000 goal to purchase
high-tech equipment for the
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NNICU). In fact, donors made
contributions totalling over
$850,000 which will allow
staff to provide optimal care
for the hospital’s tiniest
and most fragile patients.
The equipment includes
isolettes (formerly known as
incubators), radiant warmers,
the province’s first RetCam
(digital imaging system
capable of capturing
ophthalmic images) and
upgrades to cardiac monitors. The Friends enjoyed an
unprecedented level of support from its internal family
including staff and physicians…both exceeding goals set by
the Foundation.
On May 7th, 2011, one of our
signature events, the “Swing
into Spring” gala drew a large
crowd and raised a record
$66,000!
The Friends launched an on-line
web series entitled “A Friends
Story.” These professionally produced mini-documentaries
highlighted where donor dollars are going and the benefits
they bring to the community. The web series can be viewed
online at friendsfoundation.ca.

The annual Gifts for Life
luncheon was held in August
to honour those donors who
have made a special planned
gift commitment to the Friends.
The guest speaker was Dr. Will
Allanach, Orthopaedic Surgeon,
who discussed orthopaedic
services at The Moncton
Hospital.

Through our Planned Giving Program this past year,
we have been most fortunate in having received over
$316,112 in bequests, listed securities and life insurance
premium payments.
Mission: The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation raises funds to help The Moncton Hospital
deliver excellent health care and promote wellness.
Our 11th annual Taylor Ford “Hit It
Fore Health” golf tournament at

success. In fact, this sold-out event
raised $48,600, also a record, for the
Annual Campaign.

the Maternal Fetal Care Unit, the
Irving Ambulatory Care Centre

A new Grateful Patient Program was
launched this past year offering a
special way for patients and their
families to make a donation and show
their appreciation for the outstanding
care that they or a loved one has
received at TMH. In turn, the honouree
will receive a MONCTON HERO pin and
certificate in recognition for their
exceptional care. Donors can decide
where they would like their gift used, or choose to
have the hospital direct their gift to areas of greatest need.

Atlantic Canada with the purchase of radiofrequency ablation
technology. This procedure can prevent or cure cancer of
the esophagus.
The 18th Annual Donor Dinner, held on December 7th,
provided the Foundation with the opportunity to recognize
many donors who reached various giving levels. Harrison
Trimble High School celebrated a landmark in its fundraising
history for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NNICU). The 2011
Trojan Trek donations amounted to a record $20,000 which

We were very pleased to be able to award more than $25,000
in education grants to over 80 hospital staff. Education funds
are made available through three endowed funds, one of
which is a named fund; The Ronald E. & Marguerite (Peg)
MacBeath Endowment.
We said good-bye to two board members; Tracey
DeWare and Adrienne O’Pray. Both made a significant
contribution to the Friends. New to the board this
past year are Lorne Mitton and Anne Poirier Basque.
There is not a space in the hospital
that has not been touched by the
generosity of our many donors.
With deep respect and gratitude, we
dedicate this report to our donors,
volunteers and partners who allow us
to procure the most advanced
technology for our patients, which in
turn supports the recruitment and
retention of medical staff.

Ian’s Last Wish
2011-2012
Board of Directors
Even in his final days, the man instrumental in
transforming Magnetic Hill into a major concert
site, was thinking about how he could give back
to The Moncton Hospital.

Ian Fowler was the General Manager of Economic
Development, Tourism and Culture for the City of Moncton
before his passing last November at the age of 53.
“Everything Ian has done has always been about his
community,” says Ian’s wife Susan Fowler. “Even when
planning his own funeral arrangements, he was adamant that
gifts in his memory be given to the Friends of The Moncton
Hospital Foundation to go towards modern equipment…
making TMH the best health care facility it can be.”
223 people donated over $11,000 to The Moncton Hospital
in Ian’s memory. Susan and their two daughters, Laura and
Amy, were astounded and humbled upon hearing about
the level of generosity of his many friends and acquaintances.
