WaterClima – LAC Coastal
Zones – Increasing the quality
of life in Latin America and
the Caribbean
Welcome
deliverables, we want to highlight
two
of
them,
which
are
complementary:
1)
An analysis report of the
current situation in the
coastal areas;
2)
A methodological guide
on ecosystem services to
be
used
management
coastal
as
a
tool
in
and
marine
environments. This guide
will be produced after
an analysis has been
made about the current
situation in the coastal
regions.
Both products enable the project
to internalize the context and
problems of the region in which it
operates
as
well
as
prepare
communication material to reach
a
wider
audience.
The
methodological guide which will
be produced, will be shared with
our partners, collaborators and
supporters. In the the hope that it
will be utilized.
From the WaterClima – LAC, coastal zone management project, we hereby
welcome you to the first edition of our electronic Newsletter. In this edition we
would like to share with you, the main developments of the project in the area of
reduction of vulnerability to climate change and strengthening of the local
communities of coastal zones management. We will inform you about the
development and implementation of two pilot projects held in Haiti and El
Salvador. For the project, the actions in all four pilot projects form the base for
addressing management initiatives and search for local commitments aimed at
the sustainability of the coastal and marine systems, in Latin America and the
Caribbean basin.
WaterClima – LAC (Watershed and Coastal Management in the context of
Climate Change in Latin America and the Caribbean) is a programme
contributing to the alleviation of poverty and social inequalities, supporting the
reduction on socio-economic impacts of climate change, and strengthening the
regional integration dialogue between Latin American countries on water and
coastal issues.
This E-Newsletter, will be distributed electronically, on a biannual base, to all
interested and will give the reader more in depth information about the
WaterClima – LAC Project. Please feel free to comment and make suggest
regarding the related topics.

Field Story – workshops in Aquin, Haiti and Bajo
Lempa, El Salvador
Two workshops were held on 24 November and 3 December 2015 at the
Aldy Hotel in Aquin, Haiti and at the CATIE premises in Bajo Lempa in El Salvador
organized by Fundación Chile (FCH), CATIE and Europe for Business (EFB). The main
purpose of the two workshops was to engage researchers and stakeholders to
identify and discuss the drivers, pressures, state and impacts on coastal zones and
water resources, collecting information from several stakeholders to implement a
conceptual model.
Another purpose was to strengthen common regional dialogue on the
integrated management of water resources and coastal zones. The outputs of
workshop helped to frame and quantify the challenges facing in Aquin and San
Luis du Sud, Haiti and in Bajo Lempa, El Salvador. Due to this reason the two
workshops have been divided to different target audience. In both cases, the first
day is dedicated to scientific society: universities, research centres, and
independent environment consultants. The second day was called “Public services
workshop” obtaining inputs from technicians of Ministries of Environment, Ministries
of Tourism, Ministries of Economy. The last day “Civil organisations workshop”
purpose was to validate the existing ecosystemic services.
The WaterClima LAC – Coastal Zones consortia shares experiences through
group discussions tostimulate future cooperation and strengthens thedevelopment
of capacities and networking.
